0:47 "American Girl" (lead vocal Benmont) 3:44 "Something Good Coming" (lead vocal Mike) 9:37 "We What Boogie Bout Midnight" (lead vocal Mike) There's the occasional sound of strings or string synthesizer (see 2:43 and 6:06, for example). It may be someone off camera. It may be overdubbed. I'd be interested to know.

The Heartbreakers are too good of a band not to tour. Do a Tom Petty Tribute Tour with Eddie Vedder as lead singer. After all was that what Tom was doing when he had Eddie step on stage and sing some Heartbreaker songs? It would be an EPIC Tour. You only live once!!!

No, though perhaps he didn't describe what happened as straightforwardly as he could have. The label dropped the band (Mudcutch), but retained him as a solo artist. He had no power to prevent as much from happening. Ultimately, he was able to prevail upon producer Denny Cordell to let him use the Heartbreakers as supporting musicians; but the contract was still in Petty's name as a solo artist. So the truth is actually the opposite: Randall Marsh and Danny Roberts did get left behind (Tom Leadon was long out of the group by this point), but he was able to claw Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench back into the band. Cordell would never have let Marsh or Roberts serve as Petty's backing musicians. Petty got him to agree to Tench only after first trying Al Kooper (and Benmont was a wiz, as was Mike). There is no way Cordell was going to let Roberts and Marsh play bass and drums over anyone.

He got a better band. It's the music "business" & you need to be businesslike. You get the best staff you can & let go those who don't work to your standards.

Then, in 2008,he called some of the old band members ( Marsh and Leadon) and reformed Mudcrutch and did two tours and two albums. His first ever record release was with Mudcrutch, and,so was his last.

When people spend a lot of time together for a extended period of time, they start acquiring each other's mannerisms. Mike spent over 40 years playing behind Tom and touring with him. There probably is a lot of Tom living on through him.

The feeling of loss is so palpable... These two friends showed their love and grief through their beautiful renditions of two of Tom's great songs. The hug from Mike to Ben was so touching. I'm moved to tears most times I watch this. Thank God we have KZfaq... It somehow keeps Tom alive in our hearts and minds.

Looking at Benmont's hands playing the piano is beautiful to me. Just thinking about the thousands of times he played while Tom sang brings a tear to my eyes. Oh, if only to be able to relive all those times. Thanks to Ben, Mike and the other Heartbreakers. I'm sure they, like us, dearly miss our Tom Petty.
