Great reaction to a beautiful song, Nick. Thank you for bringing Elvis to us every week. I'd like to say that Elvis chose to sing songs he believed his beloved fans would enjoy listening to.....he says this in an interview. Yes, many songs seem to reflect aspecs of his personal life, especially to the loss of his mother and separation from his daughter - the two most beloveds of Elvis' life. If we had to plaster or relate each song to every inch of his life it wouldn't make sense at all. His natural ability to accurately and beautifully express the emotions behind the emotive songs are why Elvis is considered a vocal genius. We can definitely all relate to Elvis' songs because of our own personal experiences. That's the genius of his magic 💯⚡❤️

Definitely what is referred to as a crying in your beer song. Elvis could lift you up or break you down with the power of his performance. That's why he still reigns. 🎶🎵👑⚡

I wouldn`t say that the lyrics fit Elvis 1 to 1 as some people wrote in the comments below, and as many people have claimed I think Elvis had a better life resume, even from his standpoint. People often make Elvis`s life a tragedy. Many people have struggles in their lives and have to endure pain. That doesn`t mean that their lives are tragic. I am convinced Elvis had a lot of happy moments and moments of laughter and awe. He dated the most beautiful women and gained their love. He was successful beyond reach, earned a lot of money, had a beautiful home, and his friends around him, and saw things and visited places most of us can only dream of. He was given the chance to develop on a personal and spiritual level. He fulfilled most of his goals and more than he ever had dreamed of. He met interesting, influential, important, and famous people. He had family who weren`t perfect but they loved him. He had a daughter, he adored and who adored him back. He was able to help and give to others and did so repeatedly and profoundly. He changed the world when he was 19 years old and became a role model to millions of people. He was loved and adored all over the world and, no matter what anybody said, he knew it. Not bad, hey, for a dirt-poor boy from the ghettos of Tupelo. I wouldn`t call this a tragic life. But the mainstream media dislike good stories. So, they have been criticizing Elvis from day one. Lies and rumours have been told, written, and spread, and his name has been dragged through every mud they could find. Over the years, they have created a distorted image of Elvis - The King - Presley. The fictional Elvis began to take over and torture Elvis. It began to influence his decisions and made him insecure and hide behind walls. He built himself a safe microcosm. Soon his world drifted into space and he lost touch with the real world. The problem was that Elvis was a very complex, strong, talented, and intelligent individual. He was also the first celebrity of such calibre. No one had ever seen anything like it. He couldn`t ask anyone for advice on how to handle fame on such a scale. Had he had a good therapist he could have created another, better, private life for himself. It is ironic. Those who adored him the most and whom he loved so much slowly pushed him out of social life. Every success has its price. Elvis had a lot of success and therefore an enormous price to pay - the price of freedom.

@@lechat8533 I will say, though....the only people who "adored him the most and whom he loved so much" have always been none other than his beloved Mama, beloved daughter, and beloved fans. His father, the rest of his blood relatives, close friends and the few women he actually wanted in his life (excluding his ex-wife, of course), all fall in after the true loves of Elvis' life.

@@Elvista If he didn`t want Priscilla in his life, why did he visit her regularly and stay for hours? The two had a unique relationship (as all couples do) and nobody knows what it was like when they were by themselves. Only they knew. Many books have been written about Elvis, and paper can be quite hard-wearing... However, the most important and insightful books about him have never been published - Elvis`s Diaries. The ones he never wrote.

Dear Nick, many people are struggling to cope with the negative energy inside them. These are tough times, and many people are finding it hard to deal with what's happening in the world and in their personal lives. Some hurtful comments might be coming from people who are not necessarily bad, but are simply trying to release their frustration. It's important to remember that it's not personal, and you shouldn't take it to heart. Many of us, from around the world, love your videos and appreciate your reactions. So, focus on that positive support rather than the negative comments from people struggling to help themselves. If they knew how to do better, they would do it. Thank you! Sending love and a warm virtual embrace your way. ❤🤗, Josie

If the hunchback of Notre Damme sang this song in this manner to me, I would fall in love with him. I haven`t the slightest idea what would happen to me, were I to be among the audience of these concerts.

Good Sunday Nick! When I saw that this song was this week’s song of choice, I admittedly hesitated before hitting play. Many say it was just another song to Elvis. Others lament this period of Elvis recordings that leaned toward a mournful nature, almost like Picasso and his blue period. I do believe that Pieces of my Life was very personal to him. He was after all, a man you had the capacity to feel with unequaled depth of spirit. It’s just one of the reasons he’s so compelling to us. The great irony here is that the pieces of his life were beyond extraordinary but did he know that! He was so very humble in that respect. And this song that dedicates itself to his regrets is for me so very heart wrenching. For that reason I prefer a rousing rendition of Clambake. At least he was just miffed about that one but still adorable! Nick, I was so very happy to hear that you had received many supportive comments to last week’s video. So many appreciate who you are! ❤️

My goodness Sundays come round quickly! This song is SO sad and with Elvis singing it it really pulls at the heartstrings. At this time in his life he seemed to pick a lot of melancholy ballads, one I particularly like is 'It's Easy for You' written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice and one of the last songs he ever recorded. Keep on keeping on, you've got a lot of us fans behind you!

Such an introspective, melancholy, song beautifullÿ sung by Elvis, I Love this one. Yes Nick, I believe that Elvis often picked songs he could relate to, that spoke to him. His friend Charlie Hodge said in an interview, that you could tell what Elvis was going through by the music he chose to sing. ❤

What makes the song more poignant, is that Elvis had recently turned 40 when this was recorded. Interestingly, I've read that Elvis didn't view these songs as autobiographical, yet put so much into them you think they were. I prefer the studio version as it had more emotion.

May be the saddest song Elvis ever recorded; it's gut-wrenchingly sad. People who were close to Elvis said that Elvis considered the 'you know who' in the song to be in reference his Mom. Have to admit it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for your heart-felt reaction.

we cannot doubt the sincerity of Elvis in his interpretation. I guess we're relating the lyrics to his personal life and maybe he feels that way too. these words can speak to us in our own lives.

Elvis added this song to his setlist for this one show because it was his father’s, Vernon’s favourite song by Elvis at that time. Vernon was in the audience and Elvis introduced him.

This song had an impact on Elvis for sure. ““Take four was a master, and Elvis kept all the musicians waiting at full session rate while he listened to the playback over and over. Finally Felton transferred the precious master tape to cassette, and Elvis listened to the haunting tune at least thirty times.”

Hi Nick, this song was written by Troy Seals who also wrote “There’s A Honky Tonk Angel Who’ll Take Me Back In” recorded by Elvis a few years prior to this one. I just listened to Charlie Rich’s original version, and as usual, when Elvis covers a song, he owns it. Elvis’ superior phrasing adds a heap more emotion and power to the lyrics. Charlie’s is a “nice song”, Elvis’ comes across as an epic story of regret and even remorse. Well done on your reaction.

Another great reaction, Nick - thanks! To be honest, I loved both versions, but I actually prefer the live version* - you could tell that it wasn't personal to Elvis in the live version! What we sometimes forget is that Elvis was the Master of emoting in song, doesn't mean they were personal to him though! * As unofficial recordings go, this recording wasn't that had! Elvis' exceptional voice could be heard clearly - what more could we want?
