Just worked over my brand new loaded M1A and wouldn't shoot better than 2moa after they rebarreled it came in at .407 in at 100. They are the best.

Too bad the elders won’t let the military go full in on this platform. Took my mother to shoot the MCX Spear at Range USA in Ohio. My mom had a great time destroying the pelvic girdle. She smiled ear to ear. No felt bruising later on. Everyone in our group including the Army veterans enjoyed the platform, however, the bolt catch release was harder than expected.

First off the M-14 was Obsolete before it was even adopted. It's the pinicle of the M-1 Garand design. It was the solution that The Government arsenal came up with based on the "Last War" head up the ass mentality. This is why it's the shortest serving Rifle in US history. The AR-10 and FN-FAL were way better rifles. I wasted a lot of years on M-1 Garand's, M-1A's,M-14's and Ruger Mini-14's. Can you do it? Sure if you want to spend a lot of money on a heavy obsolete rifle. Honestly it's just not worth doing. Mine sits in the back of the Gun Safe and only comes out for bragging rights because that's what it is good at. Especially when you can build a really nice AR-10 with a lightweight 16" barrel for under $600 and the manual of arms is the same as the AR-15. The M-14 is best left as a foot note in US government head up the ass weapons history.

Hows the accuracy with that mount clamped around the middle of the barrel? Bad bad idea there but hey they did name their company after the US armory in Springfield Mass. so they could take advantage of the notoriety of the M14/M1A and it's design origin.

I mean... It's a 16" gun. This one isn't meant for precision. To be honest the SOCOM is more of a fun rifle to play with than a performance based 20" variant.

That's just the locking mechanism to lock the bolt back. The bolt release is outside the mag well and behind it, you pinch it to release, or you can use the charging handle.

And yes, when locking the bolt back without a magazine inserted does give you the heebeejeebees worrying about fingertips. I'm sure the "approved" way would be to use an empty magazine and then eject it.

Did you need a special offset for the light mount? I’ve seen some folks having an issue mounting the light inline.

The Surefire mounted nice and easy. I am using the one with the articulating mount that allows you to choose the angle which helps.
