I used 3 or 4 links of 30mm Chain for casting off the beach ... Lead Moves!! Chain sinks into the sand!! and stays still!! doesn't get snagged easily and costs crap loads less than lead ... for example nearly every parking area at a beach will have 2 posts with 50 odd Chain Sinkers just hanging there waiting to be cut up.

@ REEL KIWI FISHING ... did you know that the shark you let go today doubles is size and within 3 years you're crowing .. That's the 5th good fish today the sharks got ... only it wasn't The Sharks it was your Pet Shark you let go today. Here's what I used to do when long-lining in the Manakau ... Sharks up to 3 foot long got turned on their backs and the lower jaw was cut off hoping to get the hook back. Sharks over 3 foot long I cut down from the arse to the top of the spine then flipped them over and took all the meat above the spine to the back of the head and I smoked it for dog food. Back in my day we got rid of "the Slimy's" like Rays and Sharks and eels so the next generation could enjoy fishing. It appears the next generation doesn't give a shit and passes it off as being Green or Nice ?

I see why you use the floating baits bro,and from one of your earlier vids on where to fish,bro it's all about the food isn't it,you got good food for the fish your in,learning a he'll off alot bratha jas,say hello to bratha stevo please
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 11 күн бұрын
Yep you just use enough weight to get the bait down and if it's only couple mtrs deep just floating baits. You want that bait to slowly fall in hope it gets hit before reaching the bottom. If it's Rocky and kelpy floating baits is the way. Just add weight if needed if wind is around - very rarely strayline over 1oz most times 1/8 -1/4 upto half oz if needing to get out further or if bit of wind. Find the food you normally find the fish 👍 Great to hear some of the vids are helping you out this is why I do them - to help and inspire... Tight lines

Would you go trio Rex or surf 8k
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 13 күн бұрын
Hi t42 That's a hard one as the 8k is a great workhorse and purposely built for surfcasting with it's slower oscillation and long spool. The one thing that lets it down a little is the wobble it can get through the stem when on a big fish (some people don't mind it where others do) The TRex has all the bells and whistles and looks sexy and was sitting at the top until the new flite surf came out so it is a good reel. Hope that helps - tight lines

Thinking of going out on Sunday, what do think about launching at shelly beach at dead low with a 5m boat and a 4x4?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 19 күн бұрын
Dead low isn't to bad especially if you have that extra person in the boat as you drop them in when launching but not retrieving. If solo not to bad if its not a big tide as it gets muddy on the drop off. You can pull the boat up on the lip and get in but couple hrs before dead low is still alright so you launch it near the drop off... It will give you a good 8hrs fishing when you return a couple hrs out or 6hrs if you want to retrieve on the high...

@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing 28 күн бұрын
That it can be - no reef out there. The 90 mile can have a lot of weed at times and there is what they call mussel spat which guys collect as the drive up and down the 90 looking for. We had a couple guys waiting and sifting through the weed as we threw it to the side. Tight lines
