I know in your videos you said you didnt do art for alevel. I am in same boat and just wanted to ask, what did you portfolio look like really? Like I feel like mine won't be that good

Yeah, I definitely remember being stressed for the same reason! My portfolio was a variety of paintings, drawing and DT work :) I’m sure other people had much more artistically impressive portfolios, but other elements of the application are just as important (like archi-related knowledge and your general passion and interest, which comes across during the interview). There’s quite a few others like us in the department who didn’t take art haha, so don’t worry you got this 💪

I like your videos a lot! Your videos are giving me a huge motivation as I prepare for UK uni’s masters application. Maybe architecture is not for you, maybe it is for you. You will not know until you try it. If you have a chance to try something that you might be interested, just take that chance. Maybe that’s what you’ll be passionate about for next 30 years! Who knows? Maybe not but it’s very helpful to know what’s not for you. And do not forget to make effort to keep in touch with your close friends after the graduation. Like just texting them or asking them out for dinner or something every now and then. Some people might think a true friendship does not require any effort to maintain. But I don’t see it that way. People’s priorities shifts at each turning point in life (such as graduation, marriage, childbirth) and it makes it harder to meet them in person and maintain the friendships. Wish you the best and look forward to your next video (no pressure!) :)

Hi alic! It was quite anticlimactic for us since we had them online - but that definitely made it less scary. I'm not sure about next year - but I'd hope they are in person, because it's a once in a lifetime experience and its a shame we didn't get to do it. In terms of the portfolio and personal statement, I'm part of the arcsoc (arch society) welfare and access team for next year and we're creating a new website where you'll be able to find all the information in one place! I'm spending a lot of time right now, writing things up and I'll defo make a video on it when its up and running (hopefully in the next few weeks). I wish you all the best!

Suggestion: When he begins to read from the text, click on the little gear icon on the screen and reduce the playback speed. to .75 I feel that this fine young man is being a bit defensive. There is nothing at all wrong with the author, Tanizaki, expressing a preference for a traditional Asian aesthetic. This isn't being biased, at all. And it doesn't necessarily put off a "Westerner". I am a Westerner..American by way of Lithuania ! And I have a great love of traditional Japanese art, The Tea Ceremony, Wabi Sabi, Haiku, The Chinese system of Feng Shui, Koto music. A world before plastics. A world of wood and fine paper and cloth and ceramics. A world where every image was the work of a human hand. A world where our eyes are not overwhelmed daily with reproduced pictures. No need to apologize for extolling the virtues and gifts of The East! Cherish them! Ps. Love the milk !

Thank you so much for your input Renzo! This is exactly the kind of conversation I was interested in uncovering throughout the making of this video- I think you are right and you make a very important point. At the time, I was quick to set up two opposing sides of East and West- making vast generalisations of their clashing tastes, and whilst I still stand by the personal observations I made in this video, I do see that this homogenisation of entire continents and their people is not exactly an accurate or in-depth discussion of the complex nature of the ‘changing of cultural styles’ at the time! Thank you for taking the time to point this out. P.S. Yes, something about my creative process a year-or-so ago decided that sipping milk would a neat way to subtly separate the ‘chapters’ of the discussion haha.
