With my M1 Mac MIni, I use USBC-HDMI, Logitch MX Mouse & Keyboard. No issues at all. My speakers are wired into my monitor so it follows when i switch to my playstation. I used sidecar on my ipad when I need more screen.

When you say it is not suitable as a media server, why would you say that? Presumably for single user it is possible to store movies on it and then stream them to a TV?
@ElevatedSystemsКүн бұрын
It’s the hardware limitations. The 1.4 GHz Arm Processor and 2GB of RAM isn’t great for transcoding any media not formatted for direct play. It definitely can’t transcode 4K video in real time.

You able to upgrade with Intel core ultra 7? And you ever try Librum 14 laptop?
@ElevatedSystemsКүн бұрын
I have the Core Ultra Mainboard on order. The problem with the Librum 14 and others like it is it was launched years agao and never updated. Right now you'd be spending nearly $1500 for a laptop with a 5-year-old, discontinued CPU.

Do NOT buy Chuwi. I sadly bought a Ubook with 2160x1440 resolution and they sent me one with 1920x1080. When I told them they sent the wrong one they were like, "Oh, sorry about that. Just send that one back and we'll send you a new one." I waited a few days and asked for the tracking number for the correct one and now they're like, "Huh? What? Who dis?" Do NOT buy Chuwi, they're scamming people and sending out the wrong hardware then ghosting you when you try to get the right one sent.

bought for 1,485 - skipped the GPU since i have a build for home and a stream deck for away. the longevity, repair-ability, their open sourcing, e-waste, etc makes the buy in worth it for me.

I didn't know such a case existed ... I am trying to replace an ageing laptop, but the issue I have is my home office setup - I have a work-supplied laptop, which is locked down tighter than an astronauts space suit, so I can't stream music on it whilst I work. So I also have a personal laptop on which to stream music. I then have dual screens and a KVM switch that can only switch one monitor. So I have one monitor permanently connected (extended) to my work laptop, whilst the other monitor can be switched between the work laptop and personal laptop. The benefit of this is that I can use the 2 monitors for work (I use my work laptop screen for general Teams chats and email), and I can use my personal laptop to control Spotify as I stream music. The issue I have with replacing my personal laptop is that I lose a screen. So when I'm working on my dual monitors any desktop replacement is effectively "blind" ... unless I can use the screen on this case to be able to control Spotify! :) Now that is making me want one of these! Oh and in case anyone asks why I have a KVM switch and don't use it to switch to desktop to control Spotify and then switch back to work laptop ... for some reason when I switch and drop a screen on my work laptop all the apps randomly disperse around the 2 remaining screens and rarely do they return to the screen they were on when I switch back ... if you know how to fix that please let me know ;)

Definitely not a gaming laptop. I mean clearly it CAN play a video game, but this isn't that.
@2.Plus.2.Equals.54 күн бұрын
Agree on the power. If you're using something on outlet power, there's no reason for it to be draining like that. Power is usually one of the most pita parts of electrical design.

I hope they succeed,. I'd consider buying one. I just don't need a laptop. Love the concept though, I'm all for easily swappable parts, QMK rgb keyboard/pad, open source etc. i think it's mainly..will they still be around in 10-15+ years? If I'm ever in the market for a new laptop, I'll highly consider this. The most intensive thing I'd do is music production, which 64gb of RAM and upgraded CPU would handle fine I'm sure. Could care less about gaming and don't need editing 4K video files. Performance may be a little lackluster when compared to similar price point alternatives, but when everything else is considered... you're not just paying for the product.. You're paying to have it YOUR way and be able to REPAIR/REPLACE, which is worth the extra money imo. I get it's not for everyone, but it looks good for me.

6:39 that's an M.2 NVME to U.2 NVME adapter. Not a M.2 NVME to SATA adapter. The interfaces looks similar but it's completely different, and not compatible. I'm pretty sure. Edit: After a second look it even says on the page that it's not SATA compatible.

Could you consider testing using a second USB C charger at the same time? If the laptop can run on two chargers at the same time then that might reduce the battery drain issue... this might be useful as I can't seem to find any legit 240 watt USB C supplies. Even if it could run on a 180 watt and a 60 watt that would significantly improve things, and maybe justify a second 180 watt supply purchase.
@ElevatedSystems4 күн бұрын
It can only run on 1 charger. No way around that restriction.
@asificam14 күн бұрын
@@ElevatedSystems Shucks... also, how did you find that out? Every system I have only has one PD port so this was a non-option. I'm looking at the docs to see what the extra power pins are for on the GPU module... apparently there are some pins that might be able to allow power to go into the laptop. Might be something that my engineer friend might be able to work with.

regarding of the radeon performance on that A8 is like i predicted, the compact size have a more "common" style of cooling tech being utilized, which geekom doesnt disclose the actual cooling max TDP load. which means, they opt to "underpower" the iGPU so it wont go beyond the low treshold of the cooling they installed in it. thats also why they comes in a more affordable pricing. they knew they only provide "pretty adequate" cooling for the kind of ryzen 9 they are offering. i cant blame them for that marketing/design policy. people would still dig for the price.
