The weakest part on a Transit custom is the engine. The euro 5 models suffer from oil pump failure resulting in the need for a new engine. The euro 6 engines suffer from having a wet cambelt which rots resulting in either needing a new engine or approximate £1000 to change cambelt if you're lucky. It's a shame as they are excellent vans to drive.

I drive a peugeot partner which essentially is the same as the citroen berlingo & nice comfortable van packed with features but it's left me twice on the highway, goes into limp mode when it feels like, spends weeks on end at the mechanic, the radio had to be sent to France for repairs as parking sensors & other features are controlled through the can bus I presume, dpf issues, something with the ad blue but it's not ad blue that's filled from under the van, it's a 2013 lwb still running fingers crossed

I have had my Vivaro new since 2013, 122000 miles, never had a problem. Turn the key and runs beautifully. Was thinking of changing for newer Transit, but feel I might regret it.

Isn’t there an issue with the wet-belt on the Ford or is that overblown? Aside from it being a big job to change the belt isn’t it prone to failure?

Ha ha ha ... This is the most idiotic display we have seen. Here you show off everything in the Citroen, and brag about everything in the cab, etc. But of the Ford, you don't even bother to take pictures of the beautiful dashboard and all the instruments. When it comes to Citroen, it is unsafe/dangerous to load heavy goods behind the passenger seats. It has no fuse. Only the seats. What if you have to brake suddenly with a heavy load behind the seats? Then you can get killed. This is not legal in EU countries. The Ford Connect is a much nicer car. It even has more extras than the Citroen. Connect has much better driving characteristics - Absolutely everything is better with Connect. LISTEN to the truth folks... Just search the web and you will understand that this young man is not telling you the truth.

If converting to a camper or day van to save a foot of length space , a bed has to fit width ways and it can only just about fit in the transit. The vivaro is about 2 inches narrower internally than the transit. So transit wins on camper conversion.

We have several like these as the basic and Trend version at the company where I work. I even bought one from 2016, 246 000 km wich was written off in spring of this year because of 2000 euros repair costs (headlights, parking brake mailfunction and tyres) Repaired it cheap and drove it from Belgium to Stockholm, Sweden and back without any problems on a camping trip. I had more work with removing the advertising and cleaning than actually make the car road worthly again. The extra costs I've made was installing a towhook, side winddeflectors and roofbars and a new emergency kit with jack from Ford for keeping the equipment original. Because we have at work more than 15 Couriers from 2015 to 2023 (even one with a petrol engine and 2 as a Tourneo 5 seater minivan), I can say that the pre-facelift ones have better build quality. The last one is 1 month old and there also another one in order. The Sport version has only red stitching and aluminium rims as a difference than the Trend version, that's all, no difference in build quality or options. If you like this, buy one, but for me it is not worth the extra price, If I want a Sport version, the engine should have more horsepower than the basic versions, not only fake trim. Rather having a slow looking car that's fast, than a fast looking car that is actually slow. We have also other brands as vans, but not so many as Fords. Even my direct boss says that Fords drives better, sits better and needs less expensive repairs on their lifetime. There are some old Couriers wich I tought they would'nt make it until the end of this year, but they are still driving. Fords costs more, but they are worth it. I drive mine now every day for going to work and groceries. My previous car is now the vehikel for visiting family in the weekend. I even bought recently a second one of the same year wich was written off because of an accident in Brussels. Bumper, headlights, engine bonnet broken. Radiator moved slighty backwards, but no leakages. It was towed to our Ford dealer, when I first saw the wreck at the garage, I knew that the cost were higher than it was on mine Transit. I drove it from the garage to work after I removed al of the loose hanging parts. And when I finally decided that I could used it as spare parts. I even drove it 20 kms to my house without any problems. Because these two cars I now have are bought new by the company and serviced at the dealer. I have the complete history of maintenance and repairs over 7 years. These cars are though, can take beat and still get you home. Tip: Try to find one with a docking station for your Phone instead of the radio with a big screen. Then there is an extra storage space with USB-charger and audio connection above the classic Ford radio with USB, so you don't have to buy a seperate phoneholder. We have these only at our oldest models.

The Transit is much better option and easier to repair. Half a million Travelers can't be wrong. Don't need keys, can be started with a screwdriver. Fuel economy isn't as important if driving on a certain type of diesel

That Ford is an automatic. is it one of those rubbish double clutch jobs or a proper torque converter automatic? I see you can get a proper auto on the 2023 Berlingo/Partner. You don't mention the Ford's reliability, is it as reliable as the Peugot/Citroen? I recently hired a Transit for a long run in Europe, it's a really good vehicle but the man running the hire company said he would not keep them past 100,000 miles as they were too h-tech to maintain properly.

@@shouldibuythatvan We currently have a 2014 Honda Jazz automatic & a 2012 Nissan NV200 people carrier with manual gears, but no longer need to run 2 motors. A compromise would be something similar to the NV200 but with automatic gears as due to a foot problem, my wife can't operate manual gears. Price rather depends on what we can get for our existing motors.
