This is excellent, thank you. I wonder if you would make the same video but instead of saying "your child" you said the same advice but addressed it directly to the young person. It is great advice, I would show that video to my 4/5 grade classes to help them prepare for middle school texting, if it was directed at them. Thank you

Boys are the same.... Smh, it's ridiculous to think "especially girls". I get it tho, but let's not think ONLY girls receive these messages. It is exhausting as a parent of boys that they are not treated equally. PERIOD

Friendships are so very important. I consider myself lucky to have lifelong friendships from grade school that have lasted over 20+ years and still counting.

How frustrating! You don't mention the age of your child, but I'm guessing pre-teen or teen? Kids that age can be prickly, especially if they think they're being babied or talked down to. Being more tentative ("It seems like...", "It sounds like...") might help. Definitely avoid "I understand..." Commenting early, before feelings are very intense might prevent blow-ups. Be careful that your tone doesn't sound critical or sarcastic. Your best bet, though, is probably to try to talk with your kid at a neutral time about what's happening. You could say something like, "I'm trying hard to listen to you, especially when you're upset, because I care about how you feel and what you think. But somehow my comments seem to be rubbing you the wrong way. What's going on? How would you like me to respond?" You probably can't solve the problem until you understand your kid's view of things.

I love the practical advice and the visual of drawing the stick figures out on paper, so when a child gets anxious or nervous about their safety, they'll have a visual to reference in their memory. Thank you!

[Observation] Perhaps the contemporary 'vLog' phenomenon (vLogging; video blogging; short cellphone clips posted online) is acting as a modern day 'imaginary friend'. Innate desire to connect with others, a means to experiment with and explore the world, a source of comfort in times of boredom and loneliness as well. Future generations might develop new methods of interaction (interacting; relationship). Worth examining! Regards.

We're on the same page about that! The point of the video is to accept and cherish our own child's genuine efforts, whatever they might look like.
