Gethin never led a complete lap in any of his 31 F1 World Championship GP races

Monza in the early 70s was just pure speed. Very little breaking! All this won by a Brit called Peter Gethin... just!

❤ For those who don't know, this race was special for three reasons: *1.* This was the closest finish in Formula One history - for Top 2, Top 3, Top 4, and Top 5. 1 Peter Gethin (Great Britain) BRM 1:18:12.60 2 Ronnie Peterson (Sweden) March-Ford +0.01 s 3 Francois Cevert (France) Tyrrell-Ford +0.09 s 4 Mike Hailwood (Great Britain) Surtees-Ford +0.18 s 5 Howden Ganley (New Zealand) BRM +0.61 s Then there was a gap of over 31 seconds. *2.* With an average speed of 242.615 km/h (150.754 mph), this race stood as the fastest-ever Formula One race for 32 years, until the 2003 Italian Grand Prix at Monza (Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 247.585 km/h (153.842 mph), 1:14:19.838 - also the shortest *full-distance* F1 race ever - in 2023, they only did 51 laps because of Yuki Tsunoda's engine failure, so 1:13:41.143 doesn't really count as much). *3.* In qualifying, Chris Amon got pole position (1:22.40) in his Matra by setting the (then) fastest lap of all time at 251.214 km/h (156.097 mph)! Next year, two chicanes were added for safety reasons.

I can not find it either, the whole point of such demanding and exhausting race is completly lost.

Your best bet is to keep checking 'Internet Archives' (as I wouldn't trust any other websites btw). In the meantime don't expect it to appear on YT again thanks to the FIA and/or FOM b*tching about copyright infringements.

Cevert lost because, as usual, his bottle vanished when he needed it. Terrible camera work as they entered the Parabolica for the last time - focussing idiotically on a car a lap behind and missing Gethin's brilliantly decisive move, holding the inside knowing Cevert would yield by moving just a bit too much to the left, and thereby lose the race.
@joedeegan3870 Жыл бұрын
I was at the end of the strait leading into the parabolica. They were going very fast at that point so I couldn't keep track of any but the leader.I think Pererson was leading the last lap going into the parabolica, but Gethin won.
