No excuses guys… we absolutely blew it, we never should have lost this one. I’m usually the optimistic one but we absolutely choked so I hope we do some real soul-searching at training… I don’t mind a tight loss at home if we facing a tough opposition… but to go from smashing the D’s 2 weeks ago to drop this one against the horrible form Saints. That is not acceptable Waterman wasn’t playing, TK missed this game… but regardless we had too much momentum at half-time and we failed at getting over the line. As Coasters fans we have been positive after certain losses, but we are strong at home now. The way we played yesterday was disgraceful, I love our club but we got to got to learn from this form slump and get our head out of our ass. Rebuild or no rebuild Sorry for the harsh words but we need tough love from the fans after this one 👍. We are a much better side than that at home (away is still a work in progress)

Fantastic interview, love Simmo's honesty, Harley will be a gun if he can be more successful at shaking a tag, like he was trying to do. Media trying to trap Simmo into a comment on the umpires, have to get up earlier than that I feel.

I remember when Cuzzy was a youngster at the Eagles. Malthouse left him on lil Libba who (allegedly) scratch pinched and manhandled him for much of the match. Some people were critical of Malthouse for allowing that match up to occur. But in reality Cuzzy probably never had as difficult tag again. He got his toughest tag as a 18/19 year old kid. So Harley getting a hard tag is a great learning experience.

The young men were just outlasted! The raw peak energy of St.Kilda was just in the end to powerful.....that said many ticks for Eagles like Gaff! Only one player looked totally at sea . We're my eyes deceiving me but that formation and flow of St Kilda looked very much like Hawthorn of old in the great flag era. I could virtually lay old footage over this game and it would be identical.
@BDub2024Күн бұрын
I thought Saints looked more skilled. Of course they are a better side. They were tipped to be top 8 and Eagles were tipped to be bottom 2. A good clash and the Eagles tried hard. So happy with the effort. I thought preseason that if we had Allen and Kelly out then we'd be in trouble. Thankfully other players have stepped up this year. But I thought some of those losses plus Waterman and Hunt were really good and inform players. Eagles just don't have the depth. But overall good effort.
@ivankurtz1909Күн бұрын
@@BDub2024 Structure wise and a greater body of mature aged men! That was the difference in the end. Eagles average age is way younger than the Saints. They didn't get much from the Umps either! 12 points is nothing but Eagles for some puzzling reason don't seem to be on full octane! I still think their nutrition staff have it wrong.
@ivankurtz1909Күн бұрын
@@BDub2024 No depth! You say what Hunt Allen Kelly Waterman out and they lead the game for over a hour! C'mon man! The Saints were desperate and it showed the first hour must have been torture for them. Kelly and Waterman were missed today and probably worth the 14 point difference.
@BDub2024Күн бұрын
@@ivankurtz1909 Eagles don't have depth. That's the problem. Once you get past the top 12 it really falls away. And especially outside the top 23. So if we get a few injuries we tip into mediocrity. Saints looked too classy for me and I was quite concerned even in the third quarter. We were throwing everything into it, but without the class. I had a nice comfortable spot on the top level on the wing. Saints were in their usual defensive mindset and we couldn't break free. I wasn't surprised, and when they hit the front they were really good at stopping our ball movement. Hunt and Kelly had the pace we missed. Waterman would have helped with some goals but also movement around the forward line. Ryan and Cripps improved today. Saints were really good at running out of defence. We were trying really hard, but they were really good at breaking tackles and sharing the ball around. Quite organised. They only have 3 injuries officially currently. So full strength.
@BDub2024Күн бұрын
@@ivankurtz1909 Eagles were desperate they just didn't have the class. Saints really shared the ball around the players well. Hunt has had a foot issue for about 4 weeks now. But he gives them important run and pace off half back.

C'mon mate! He copped a lot of physical stuff that was over the top! Had he submitted he would not be of champion stuff. Proud of his fight and courage! Young 19 year old getting man handled by mature aged athletes and holding his own. He has to protect himself .......I will personally do what many have asked me to for decades and teach him close combat (defence) but never did! There are ways to defend yourself in sport. So don't knock him for sticking up for himself! He got whacked in the nose at least three times. Was disgusted the Umps didn't afford him some protection! Or will we get another Shuey so badly treated he ended up with a serious ongoing injury.

Saints were tipped to be a top 8 team. Eagles tipped to be bottom 2. While the Eagles have been good at home, I feel we're crawling into the midseason break with players out and sore. The Eagles have an average squad, and really lack depth apart from the veterans. I think having then missing Kelly Waterman and Hunt hurt in pace and skill. There is no doubt Saints looked more skilled. That's talent not coaching. We will lose 11 players in next 3 years and these are good players. We need to be incredibly lucky with draft picks in next three years and get some free agents in. My concern is matches like against North and Hawks. Its possible that we may not get players back and lose Reid on top. Ouch. Hopefully we can restructure our side up in the second half with Allen up forward and expose some kids in the midfield. The forward line going forward could be an exciting period to see what works.

@@travstar5447 When they win he's a good coach. When they lose he's bad. I think he tends to lack flexibility as a coach and doesn't move guys around as much as he could. But I think he's a good man manager and good with youngsters. We will lose 11 players in the next three years, with many of them being our better players. So we need a steady hand as coach to nurture the youth and work consistently with the club. Then maybe at the end of 2025 see what is on offer and who to target.
