Just found out my resort in Cancun is planning a minor touch up to the resort from August 24th to September 20th. Which happens during my stay and looks like they're keeping everyone to one side of the resort, like sardines. Meaning one pool will be closed and a few other buildings.

There is a myth, not so much Canadians, that drugs are okay to buy and use in Mexico. On group transport to the resort there is usually a reminder about no drugs.

Is there a buffet area?
@ChristineTurner
@ChristineTurner 15 сағат бұрын
@@s.d.7597 hi SD! Yes there is for breakfast. They will also eventually have a ‘grab & go’ style place for lunch and dinner which will have individual portions of casual fare but this is located between Vivid and Dreams so it’s not open yet. My guess is it won’t open until the Dreams side opens - so a few more months to go on that.

As an Australian that swims in the pacific ocean all the time I would not swim in that. The waves are normal heights but the problem is the shape of the shore (steep drop off). It creates 3 sections: sweeping shallow waves on the sand that if you're too close will definitively topple you off your feet, then some really sketchy shore dumps where waves suddenly rise out of the ocean and dump on the sand almost instantly. Swimmers would instinctively want to be past these, but these big dumpers are followed by strong rips behind them. That's one hell of an uninviting situation.

@ChristineTurner

Hi Ishani! Well it’s always nice to visit that destination but you need to be aware that August is pretty much peak hurricane season. You may not experience one but you might have more muggy or rainy days than normal. September is similar. If you’re ok with super hot weather, enjoy it!

Hi Kam! Oh nice! They all seem to do their own thing but when I stayed at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas and Riu Palace Baja California a few months ago, they said that we could dine at the other resorts for all meals - just not the a la carte restaurants, but if you preferred the buffet at one of the other resorts for breakfast or dinner, it was an option. I'm curious to see if they're doing the same thing in Cancun...

Palace properties generally have poolside and beach waiters for drinks, classic has a cart every couple hours or you have to wait in line at the bar.

Hi Gary! Ah yes good point; however, I've been to so many Riu's since I filmed this that I have to say that each one seems to be doing their own thing. I mean, Riu Santa Fe had coffee makers in the rooms. Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas had pool & beach waiters AND they had a drink cart coming around. I guess they're doing all they can to get the best reviews possible.

How do you become an elite club member or sign up for it? Is there a fee for this?
@ChristineTurner
@ChristineTurner 5 күн бұрын
Hi Kristi! It really shouldn't be called a Club - maybe Elite Class or Elite Level something, because it's actually not a Club or a membership - it's simply an upgraded room category, which also entitles you to some other perks around the resort. So if you want to be Elite, you have to book an Elite room category (which is more expensive). Pricing will depend on occupancy levels, so it's really worth looking into it quite a ways before your travel dates. Thanks for watching!

@ChristineTurner
@ChristineTurner 6 күн бұрын
Hi Iraida! It was off for part of Monday until 5am Tuesday - apparently a pipe burst in Cancun so they had to repair it - nothing to do with the Hyatt, from what I understand. I do believe that this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time they've had an issue with water supply since they opened 3 months ago, and the 1st 2 outages were within 2 weeks of opening. Lots of people are questioning things but usually take the plunge and end up loving the resort (as in Roxann's case, who is there until Saturday). There are always going to be bad reviews about resorts - if you're a very inflexible person, you'll likely have issues but I haven't gotten that sense from you at all, so I think you'll be fine.

Yes there are some shops and restaurants right across the street from the resort entrance. I mean, not many - maybe 3 or 4 shops and about the same for restaurants but at least it's something for a bit of variety. Taxi's are super cheap there though, so that's an easy way to get to the town of La Crucecita (this is the nearest town (about a 10 minute drive) - the town of Huatulco is actually 15km north of the airport).

Just got back from the Vivid on 7/16. It was so nice. The only bummer was that not all the dining was open and running. It's totally fine though we had a great time. Carlos at the Vantage Lounge bar was delightful. I am vegan and they were happy to accommodate , at all of the places I ate at. When we got there we had a couple hours before our room would be ready so we changed and went to the pool and got tacos from the taco truck. So good. The menus seemed to have several options. We ended up eating at the Italian place twice, lol. I got the pizza the first night and my guy wanted pizza the next night after he saw mine. The watermelon and tomato salad was so delicious and refreshing. The waiter made a point to offer me a lemon sorbet as it's one of the vegan dessert options that wasn't on the menu. I love a lemon dessert so I was thrilled with this 2x! Also the sunset view from where we were seated was so beautiful. The rooftop pool was so nice. The view is unbelievable. We were upgraded to a Vantage Club Suite. Literally the size of my apartment and the views from the wraparound balcony were beautiful. May have dozed off on the hammock a time or two. The staff was great. The beach club made for a great day by the ocean. We opted to get one of the sunbeds over the pool. The food and service at the beach club was great as well. Will be going back

Hi Monashay! Those tacos were truly amazing! You can pay in US but will likely get Pesos for change, so probably best to just take Pesos to start with (you'll also get the best prices with this). How’s the safety in the hotel? Im travelling first time in Mexico and alone this August…I booked the santa fe though, do you know how much if i upgrade to San Lucas and California?
@ChristineTurner
@ChristineTurner 8 күн бұрын
Hi Monashkay! Did you see my other response? I think you'll be totally fine but maybe stick around the resort at night instead of going into town alone. Upgrades would depend on who you booked through - it could be way more or not very much at all but if you do upgrade, know that you can visit all 3 Riu's if you book into Riu Palace Baja California but if you book Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas, you can only go to Riu Santa Fe as well, not Baja. @@monashkay_diary9375 I haven’t stayed at this hotel in my own but have stayed at other resorts in the area on my own probably a half dozen times. Never worried about taking a taxi or Uber but Cabo was actually my first Uber ever and I learned how it’s SO much safer with all the tracking and emergency measures built into the app. I don’t think you’ll have any issues at the resort but always ask for a room that is NOT on the ground floor and watch your drinks - the alcohol will sneak up on you here. And watch out for the shots. Everyone loves to do lots of these - again - the booze will catch up to you quickly. Have fun!
