Despite having these same problems of leaking oil, coolant and over-heating issues, how is it that BMW engineers refuse to rectify these? It's been going on for decades, not years.

135i, 150k miles, 428xi 100k miles and now i'm diving a 430xi.....tips! 1) every day warm up car before you start driving, use remote start to start the car before you grab your bag and go....that 2 min will allow the oil to move around and the head to come to temperature! in winter a little longer! It's a plastic filled engine....quick heating = damaged parts. 2) clean your engine bay twice a year if not more. Go to a self service car wash....use the high pressure hose to clean the hoods underbelly of "crud" that builds up inside the hood. then turn on the foaming brush and just lay it on top of the engine and allow the foam to pretty much degrease your engine...try to not get any on belts....just turn it on lay it on top of the engine and use your hands to kind of move that foam around so it just slides down the engine and components. again oil + plastic = bad! Then use the foaming brush to clean off the inner fender walls. 3) go under with rubber restore or white lithium or something and hit anything with a bushing.....the engine mounts.....flood them with the stuff...it will help restore them and keep them happy! 4) Before you go though a car wash or you wash your car....grab a can of brake cleaner and just about soak the crap out of your brake pads to keep things free of buildup...that buildup may cause brakes to freeze up and your brake pads will last longer because less crap between then and the disc. 5) Keep your car clean as best as you can. Not easy but do your best. As for interior....grab one of those dust glove things that look like fuzzy mittens.....grabe a bottle of black magic...spray a few squirts on to the glove and massage it into your dash your doors and anything plastic which will get cooked by the sun or frozen by the cold...don't worry it won't cause electrical issues if it gets into the dash. while you are doing that grab a towel soak it in black magic and your door seals and your hood seals heck any seal on the car you can see....soak it in the stuff! 6) if you are an old lady driver like me .....Italian tuneups.....let car warm up to temp.....on ramp to a high way or some hill....you really need a long steep hill......gun it! just give it the beans a few times.....really helps remove the carbon buildup on your pistons and in your exhaust. 7) Enjoy your car! They are amazing vehicles! I loved my 135i and i adore my 430xi, love and respect them and they will love and respect you.

The timing chain, vanos and all that stuff is on the back (transmission side) of the engine. The engine will have to come out when it's time to replace the timing chain guides, fix the oil leaks and work on all that stuff. Enthusiasts who work on their cars at home will not want to do this and because shop labor is so expensive you won't be able to give these cars away when they're 15 years old.

@a.m.9357

These are frauds, they want people to over-heat and destroy the engines. Same reason why so many of these car company frauds don't fit engine temp gauge. How can anyone in the right mind build an engine and a car and suddenly take away a vital gauge that has been in operation since the invention of cars? It all comes down to fraud and greed.

I just replaced the Oil Filter housing on my Dad’s 118i M sport shadow edition ‘18, 1.5 or the B38 3 Cylinder. Was tempted to change the Plastic coolant pipe that bolts to the block, but they didn’t have one in stock. The Turbo Waste gate linkage is about to start rattling 😊. The dreaded Vanos ticking sound. They’re good engines just need addressing with up-rated parts if possible. P.S a mysterious intermittent EML and reduced power/drivetrain malfunction occurred, but went away after resetting the oil level AGAIN,

@philbrutsche8928
@philbrutsche8928 10 күн бұрын
They are bullet proof. All of these problematic components are bolted on to the engine block. Oil leaks have been a BMW problem for decades (they have used crappy gaskets since the 1970s - or even earlier), but there is no excuse at all for water pump failures or critical plastic parts failing before 100k miles. There is also no valid reason for an aluminum coolant line to leak at a weld point at ANY mileage - whether that be 40k miles or 400k miles. Long gone are the days of a BMW lasting 200k miles with only basic maintenance

Maybe yours is starting to fail. Mine started to hum above 40mph and got louder as I drove faster. I would jack up the rear so both tires are off the ground. put it on jack stands. have someone drive the car with traction control off. listen to the rear wheel bearings with a stethoscope or long flat head screw driver from the inside of the knuckle. see if you can hear the bearing at different speeds.

Thanks for the tips! I had a BMW dealer tell me it’s a bad idea to replace the fluid and filter in a ZF transmission. Same thing with replacing diff fluids. I think they’re crazy. What do you think?
@TheTownTechnician8993
@TheTownTechnician8993 29 күн бұрын
I think the diffs you're totally fine to change the fluid. but for The transmission it really depends on how many miles you have on it at the first trans flush.if its higher milage around 100k then I would say do not change. But if you do it at 40k intervals I think you'll be fine. We usually don't do this at all. It's very rare and seems to work ok, lasting well into the 100k miles even into 200k miles. Personally I wouldn't change it keeping it original. thanks for watching!!

@SkarTisu 29 күн бұрын
@@TheTownTechnician8993 I’ve got 73000 on it now, and I wouldn’t do a flush. Just fluid replacement and a new filter. Do these transmissions really go 200k on original fluid? That bends my mind!

Should have some time left, but gives me a preview. I recently replaced the cylinder coolant return line under recall and while there BMW said I needed to replace my torsion struts, oil leaking from little plastic caps on the front of the engine, and also my fuel tank breather valve (I replaced all for $200 myself instead of $3000 quote by BMW).
