Badass video gorgeous tank !! I just started a 55 gallon the same way and so far so good but had one hiccup the blue tang died 4 days after but the first 2 he was swimming all around and seemed happy but then noticed he wasnt eating with the others and was just sitting on the bottom middle for a day then the next morning it happend and the guy at the fish store since he was the biggest of the 6 fish we wasn't getting enough oxygen. other than the clowns not going to the enemie lol its been great i noticed you didn't have a bubbler going what are your thoughts on that wasnt sure how to go about keeping great oxygen levels ? Ive read that flow has most to do with it ? My out take it a 8 inch plastic piece with 4 little holes that the water empties through back into the tank should it submerged about half inch creating nice flow with a bubbler or have it a little above the water to where its creating millions of micro bubbles but ive heard micro bubbles can be bad im confused and sorry for the spelling had to smoke a bowl lol hope your 420 friendly if not my apologies
@MASSAquariums24 күн бұрын
Haha 🌱💨 Tangs are very tough fish to keep especially in smaller tanks. I would keep the outtake below the surface a little so it creates “some” surface agitation but you definitely don’t want all the micro bubbles constantly

How many times and how much ammonia should I be adding during the fishless cycle? Also, do you only use the de-chlorinator once? Do you have to pick either doing the ammonia route or the de-chlorinator? Thank you :) Side note- I have started my tank today, everything is in it besides a few more plants I want to add. I started the heater, filter, and added some de-chlorinator. Not sure if there’s anything else I need to do unless I have to add ammonia. I just don’t want to mess anything up so I’m trying to see what’s the best route from here with the fishless cycle!
@MASSAquariums26 күн бұрын
For a complete fishless cycle you’ll need to just wait a few weeks. If you want to add some fish a little at a time you can use Dr Tim’s one and only or Fritz makes a beneficial bacteria you can add
@bennettmakay26 күн бұрын
@@MASSAquariums okay, so if I don’t add anything but de-chlorinator then I can just wait a few weeks? If I want to add fish faster I can use one of the products you recommended? Thank you!!

Yes yes yes!!! There are SO many people who will diss for overstocking (I don’t wanna say Karen’s, but….) but I think with good filteration, water changes and just keeping a vigilant eye for the fish’s well being (I’ve deffo messed up when I first started but know what to look out for now) fish can thrive like this!! Thanks for this vid and gorgeous tank!!

Love the tank! I just started a new tank with 2 Hobs and wave makers only. However I’m having an issue with surface scum I think people are calling it protein buildup. But my tank has only been up 2 weeks. Do u experience this? People are saying it’s from not having a sump?
@MASSAquariumsАй бұрын
You do not need a sump to run a saltwater aquarium, what they are referring to is an overflow will remove surface buildup as it draws all the top water out of the tank into the sump. Saltwater tanks are a game of patience and waiting. As in months to years of balancing your tank and each tank is different. Low fish stock and light feeding while also monitoring your Light time. Light duration will depend on what corals you keep. If you don’t have corals you don’t need to keep your light on very long. 4 hrs is good just so you can enjoy the aquarium. They do make surface skimmers you can buy but once your tank settles in you won’t need one. Good luck and be patient. A saltwater/reef aquarium is not one for instant gratification. TRUST ME! lol
@shanephillips4621Ай бұрын
Yes, I completely understand. This is my second tank. It’s a 80 gallon that I converted over from freshwater. I have a red sea 26 gallon Max nano Peninsula that I’ve had up for a year now and that tank is doing amazing, but I’ve never seen this surface buildup Because that other small tank has a overflow but I wanted to ask you because based off of watching your video and doesn’t look like you’re dealing with it on the top of your water. And every time you ask the local fish store they say oh yeah you need an overflow oh yeah, you need to get a protein skimmer to get that out And all this different stuff I’ve seen people run just off of live rock and powerheads. So I just I’m wondering if there was something I’m doing wrong when I do my water change will that help reduce it? And did your tank ever go through the surface scum stage?

You were close. Lack of stony corals combined with low phosphates and low lightning and you have a bloom of coraline. If you had the reverse you would have a bloom of bad algae. You simply were on the other side of the spectrum.

self fulfilling proclamation...Jurupari...you say jur-ee-pari. how do you get ee out of the letter U? Back in the '80's i used to say you-ruh-par-ee. which I am fairly confident is also incorrect. Since jurupari is from the Tupi language that also gave us jaguar and jacaranda my guess is that the correct pronunciation would be joo-roo-par-ee
