Videos like this are a Godsend. Something so simple, can be so frustrating, if you don't know. Extremely helpful, and can't thank you enuff for keeping this video posted. I was a bit worried when you showed your special "hooked" tool. Once you showed the clasps, it was obvious it's not needed. Used a conventional putty knife on mine. Thanks again.

Can’t hear anything. Genuinely would like to know what is being demonstrated. Working on a washer right now…

No. This did not work for mine. I can feel that I'm pushing a spring in but it will not hinge up. All I did was remove paint from my washer...

Sweet I'll check that out. Very much not apparent just looking at the washer and any manuals I've seen doesn't show that. Least the parts ones breakouts

Thanks for this! When my washer wouldn’t stop filling I remembered something I was told long ago, but I couldn’t open the top to get access. You showed me how, and I was able to reattach a little hose and now it works fine. Edit; Reading the other comments I see that this doesn’t work for everyone, but it did for me, so I guess my Maytag is sufficiently old school. Thanks again. Saved me a lot of money.

I have an old Maytag washing machine like this one in the video. It works for 3 or 4 seconds and then it doesn't work. What is the reason you expect?

Can that tool be purchased for use to open the washer lid?
@Appliancerepairmtpleasantsc1
@Appliancerepairmtpleasantsc1 Жыл бұрын
No, the washer lid will have a mechanical lock, mandated by federal law, to keep the lid closed. Trying to use this method to pry open the lid will only damage your washer!

Why does nobody make a video with the actual noises? It would be helpful.

I tried this and it caused the enamel to flake off where I was prying (glad I wore safety glasses) because it was bending the top panel lip and I found that it had clips similar to those in the video on the top but their function is to hook on the underside of the top panel lip when you put the front panel on (with the bottom angled away from the machine by about two feet and then it sets on the two spring clips on the bottom. Before trying to remove the front feel around at the bottom about three inches in from the corners to see if a springy clip is what the front panel is resting on. You could also just pull sharply on the bottom of the front panel and it should come out. The top on mine didn't pivot up like the one in this video it has screws holding it to the sides.

Indeed, opening the top of my Maytag 310 does NOT work this way. See Craig Welbourn's comment below. First, the front panel must be removed (two small screws at the front, near the bottom). Only then can you get at the two bolts on either side near the top. Those must be removed before you can swing the top open.

This worked for my 90's Maytag Atlantis. However, there were little plastic covers over the screws that open the front panel. I cracked one of them disengaging the top. I recommend carefully locating where the spring clips are before trying this.

Surprise, my old school Maytag had two hex bolts holding the front instead. They were concealed by the front panel, which needed to be removed first using the scews at the bottom (which I could not see) So after a wrenching episode trying to pop the clasps to get the top off, I bent the front cover and lid, broke the attachments and the best washer ever made is now ready for the scrap heap. "Thanks a lot... thanks a lot pal....."

I tried this on my 37 year old A310 (I thought it was old school) and bent quit a bit of sheet metal because the top cover was bolted internally on its under side to the right and left side panels and I was tiring to pry it off! The ridged scrapers I used to pry with like in the video was enough to cause the enamel flake off and put splinters in me fingers. So the front panel needed to be removed first in order to take the bolts out of under side of the top cover. No amount of was needed unless you want to rune things.

PLEASE add a note stating that not all Maytag washers open the top before the front. I cursed from 2pm to 8pm, eventually getting the top off using a crowbar- the clips fired across the room when they finally released. If that had't worked i was going to use my recipricating saw to cut through the clips. Then I saw this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iaunhdeGzZ6lnGg.html where you undo the two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Btw, my washer is 42 years old and still runs like a charm, excepr for replacing the Rubber Injector Valve.

mate I'm doing the same thing with a similar vintage Hotpoint (maytag lite) and you just saved me the time of looking up the part, that's exactly what seems to have failed on mine. Cheers!

I SECOND THIS COMMENT. I ended up using flat bars to force those damn spring clips out, and the panel still wouldn't come off. Ugh.

My old school Maytag required taking off the front panel (two screws at the bottom front, right and left) and then removing a hex bolt under each top side that connected the top to the sides. Then it would flip back.

My old school Mayag has two screws at the bottom of the front panel. You have to tip it backwards to get to them.
