I had a 430 for awhile biggest problem we kept having. Was the frt spindle s. Are not beefy enough to hold the weight in the front end it kept breaking spindles. An in hot weather take the side panels off. Ours would start to over heat if they panels were on.

You did a great job bringing this 430 back, the diesel is a big plus as is knowing how to weld. Well done!

*( J / D )* Afternoon, Much like yourself had found that certain Grass / Yard - Property Chores go better when the right - proper tools are involved. In My Case ( SHORT STORY ) the Choice was a Vintage Craftsmen with a Twin 16 ONAN Engine. They called these units Garden Tractors. Dual Range GEAR Boxes to really get the torque and grunt of the work done. 46 inch deck was way better then any 24 or 36 used before this stage. Always wanted a 62 yet on this UNIT that would indeed of been OVER-KILL. NO LAWN stood a chance when it was filled with gas. High Range meant 4th gear could knock out most chores in near Half to a Third or Better of the total in style all the while. I cant say al units are created equal though. Had a PLOW unit on the front of this beast machine. Other then Weights and chains ( I ) added to the mix. Packed snow ( INSTEAD ) of Freshly fallen could NOT begin to slow down the progress. When (WE) sold that property one of the local Neighbors had asked ( IF ) you ever consider selling it LET Us Know ( Top of the list ) . His Jaw about Dropped into the Ground when (I) gave him the go ahead ( BIDDING ) Process. His Manual walk behind on a full acre plus of weed laced bumpy yard was about the death of him for a months worth of sweat and tears. About the time he finished the back. The front was getting overgrown again already still. My Advice to Any and ALL. DONT be ( FUELISH ) Time and Money are like Debts versus A$$SET$ ( What YOU ) HAVE , WANT, NEED, DESIRE ??? A Hand Written Check to a Close personal Friend can mean the difference between enjoying an hour of Mower Relaxation being. Had heard he was so impressed with the process ( ONCE ) his Wife got on the machine * SHE * became the Neighborhood Grass Cutting Queen... (IF) its all about the brand only ??? I would NEVER personally Pay what some say is the god father to All others Given what needs to get done instead of financing a house or other such stuff in the process. My Buddy was a higher up at Briggs and Stratton for many years. He had toured all sorts of plants and said the Secret is which Paint Job each gets behind they leave to there final Destination. TRUTH is Stranger then Fiction. NOT all things are created Equal. IF it walks like a duck, Squawks like a Duck, Looks like a Duck ( MAYBE ) just Maybe its a Chicken or a turkey trying to Pull the wool over all others eyes besides to avoid the Dinner table of LAST Resorts ( YA Think ) ???

I am reviving an "86 420. It looks bad as someone spray painted it flat black...it seems mechanically good though. I think you might be able to modify a factory lens cover to fit over your light bar. It is fun to bring them back into use. NIce work.

We mow a large acreage. Basically 3 different farmsteads and a bit of the field access roads. I got a 445 with a Kawasaki motor, big mistake! thing didn't last a week before it couldn't keep oil in it. At the time the parts for rebuilding it were more than the value of the tractor, as Deere had the parts supply all tied up. I've collected different L&G trctors over the years, cub cadet , Sears Suburban, etc. The 445 was a good size for what I needed, but spending 3 K for a repair was out. I finally bit the bullet and bought a late Deere 495 Diesel, not cheap, but we love it! Later found a 445 (455?) Diesel version and it is a real horse, son grabbed it for his use! I need to find either a rebuild for the blown engine one or a diesel motor for it. The thing has all the extras on it, just need to get it running again!

I'm mostly an orange tractor guy, but I have to say that overall that is a damn fine specimen of a 430 and I am a little envious! Also for the love of god please don't refer to that exquisite garden tractor as a lawn mower!! Zero turns and Snappers are lawn mowers, that is a diesel garden tractor from the glory days of garden tractors! They sure as hell don't make them like that anymore! 😊

Take the fender pan off to clean the tractor if it is new to you. I did that with my 455 8 years ago and I guess it is time to repeat.

The 430 is still a beast of a garden tractor. There's alot of those and the 455's that have over 2000 hours on them with nothing but general maintenance. My 758 still has that same 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel. Excellent machines.

Had one back in the day it's great for all the attachments and stuff like that but when you're really mowing thick grass it will bog down. I'm sorry but I know it will. The 420 gas version of this same mower put no better. But for everything else that it does is pretty good. My dad has one right now that he's been tinkering with.

Back in the 90's and into 2000's for 13 years I mowed 6 acres and plowed my drive with my 430. BTW when Deere came out with the 755, 855 and 955 compact tractors they used the 430 hood. Also, the JD hyd. blade had about an inch of down pressure, rare on a garden tractor but handy. Liked your vid!🦾
