Funny how in practically all videos showing this job there is never any RUST and SEIZED BOLTS... In our parts the blowtorch is the home mechanic's second most used tool after the Vise Grip!
@BILLT_YT

Definitely, emergency tools and maneuvers are key components for any mechanic. I think learning techniques as well as when to use them for unexpected situations, or how to avoid them is key. Luckily I both live in the south (so I deal with less corrosion and rust) as well as have the situation to often times not need to find an immediate solution, allowing me to order parts and complete a more in depth repair at a later date, but that is not usually the case for most situations.

So I am located in Clayton county GA I just bought a 2012 Suzuki GSXR600 from South Carolina and unknowing that the title is rebuilt. The title I have is branded not actual mileage and while at the tag office trying to transfer the title over they made me aware of the vehicles history saying I need an inspection. Could you provide me with the info of the guy that was mobile to you? I was going to go to McDonald collision repair in Forest Park but if I could save having to tow the bike that will be ideal for me. What all will I need in my case? I only have the title and it’s been signed over to me but to not transferred by the state due to needing an inspection. I don’t have photos of damage, I don’t have the bill of sale, I don’t have a photo of the sellers ID, I only have the title. Supposedly the bike was salvaged in Texas in 2014 and titled there and then came to South Carolina and it was obviously titled there as I have a South Carolina title. Now it’s in GA with me being the new owner and and anxious I’m out $6,000. The bike looks brand new and rides great. I had to ride it 3 hours home and have been riding it about 30 minutes to and from to McDonough for work everyday but I have stopped riding it because I don’t want to get stopped and the bike towed away and then I’d have no way to retrieve it as I have the title but the state hasn’t transferred it to my name because of needing an inspection. Is there any advice you could give me and is there anyway you could give me the contact information of the mobile inspector you used? Thanks for the video very helpful!

@@BILLT_YT thank you so much. Do you know if they will be able to test my speedometer? I have a speed sensor code and the speedometer doesn’t work. I can fix it before I spend $100 for an inspection or I can try and see if they won’t notice. I was under the impression the just check your lights, horn, and make sure your tires are okay . Thank you so much for the reply if there’s anyway to Pm each other let me know lol

@@johnwilliamson7235See that’s tricky there. If you don’t fix it and end up failing the inspection, you are out $100 and have to pay another $100 for another inspection. Including fixing the speedometer issue for $100, you end up spending $300 altogether. If you do fix it the first time you only pay $100 for the fix and $100 for the inspection. Just depends on if you are sure the inspector will check it.

Good news is the inspector told me if I tow the bike in and it’s on a trailer or bed they don’t make you unload it they just check all the lights, horn, and frame. Fingers crossed bro renting a motorcycle trailer from uhaul for $22.45 because I don’t want to load it in the ram and my ‘93 Toyota pickup which is perfect for towing because it’s as low as a car is sitting with a blown head gasket lol

@@jeronimomurillo7906As long as you have proof of passing the rebuilt title inspection, I don’t see why going to the local tag office would be a problem. Worst case scenario they can make a copy of all your documents and mail them to the DOR. If anything goes wrong just contact your inspector.

The inspection site is responsible for sending your documents(MV-1 Title/Tag application) to the DOR after you pass inspection. Call them because they did the inspection and know how the process works. They should be able to mail all your information to the DOR so you can receive your documents in the mail. You should at least receive the title in the mail and just take that to your local tag office to get your license plate registered. This is how it works in GA

Whoever is planning on replacing the front lower control arms on the Element... oh boy you are going to in for a treat. Those babies don't ever want to come out. So here's a video that will save your sanity. Link : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9NdZtBjy7-VhKs.html. From now on, that's just the route I am going to take. It's just so much easier. In the video, these guys used files and a broken pick axe. For me, I jammed the end of my breaker bar. No rental tools needed. The whole method is unconventional, but it works. Also as far as the front, lower control arms. You will spend more time than you want to trying to press in ball joints and bushings. They don't come out easy neither because they were never designed to be pressed out to begin with. I had to use air tools to do it! In my opinion and from my awful experience, just buy new front lower controls arms.
@BILLT_YT
@BILLT_YT 5 ай бұрын
yea... basically any wedge will eventually work to get the unstuck depending on the degree of rust and amount of time they have been together. That being said... the correct tools are not particularly expensive and easily accessibly, I have used multiple methods and the tool seems to work best with the least amount of hassle, and can be easily justified by doing the job myself (heres a link to one thats roughly $20: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B099WQJYM9/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&aaxitk=6547b1001973c3d5b179c467552fcb8a&hsa_cr_id=0&qid=1708987599&sr=1-2-9e67e56a-6f64-441f-a281-df67fc737124&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_1_title&pd_rd_w=bN2dQ&content-id=amzn1.sym.417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b%3Aamzn1.sym.417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b&pf_rd_p=417820b0-80f2-4084-adb3-fb612550f30b&pf_rd_r=5PF012YBXXHM4CRZRWRG&pd_rd_wg=dCpxG&pd_rd_r=29c01412-c92e-4c78-ad88-c0f26b59df22)... as for the actual ball joint removal yea, its a paint and unfortunately the joint is part of the knuckle, not the control arm, so unless you are replacing the whole knuckle assemble, which can be costly and have man attached parts, bearing/hub, etc. it may just be a labor of love... some shops will also remove and install ball joints if you bring them the knuckle. To each their own... the biggest thing I have learned working on cars, is that there is a ton of different ways to get to the same solution.

Just imagine how much money a salvage inspector can make by failing the same person over and over. Not only that but if they have a rebuilders license they can just buy up as many auction cars as they want that have salvage titles and easily pass them all for inspection because they are an inspector. Then just sell those “rebuilt” cars for profit. You can’t tell me some of them aren’t doing this.

We only have a handful of inspectors in GA so there’s a good chance you may have to tow the car an hour or more to get to one. Oem is always better, I didn't drive the car often enough to be worried about longevity, so I experimented with non oem... as for time it's tough to say, since I work significantly slower when recording, but if I had to do it again I can probably do all 4 mounts in about 2 hours on the floor in my garage.

I’d love to know how these aftermarket components have held up.

So far so good, had what seemed to be a defective mount for the rear but I swapped it out for free... I'll be jumping back into the components and evaluating how they have been... stay tuned!
