You mentioned that "Montserrat Caballe" was an Opera singer..? In fact, she is considered by many to be perhaps one of, if not The Greatest Operatic Soprano's ever, for her range, clarity and power. They met I believe in the early 1980's after Freddy heard her sing at Covent Garden Opera House in London, where he was completely smitten by her voice. The story goes that prior to their first actual meeting in the city of Barcelona, where Montserrat was born and lived most of her life, Freddy already a global musical Megastar, nervously paced up and down liker a caged animal, terrified that she would not like him. However within minutes of her arrival it was obvious that there was a powerful chemistry between them, ignited by a shared love of music and their sincere appreciation of each others' wildly differing, enormous musical talents. This chemistry was to last the rest of their lives. Despite what some claim, Freddy aided by his music maestro, Mike Moran composed the powerful duet as a tribute and homage to his new yet devoted friend, being not only where she was born and resided, but was also the venue for their first actual meeting. When it was finally proposed that they might perform and record it, Montserrat apparently asked Freddy "What's the matter, why do you want to sing only one song with me....?" Freddy Mercury was taken aback, as the "Diva" continued, "How many songs are usually included on a modern musical Long Playing Album...?". Freddy mumbled.."er..usually at least 10..". To which Montserrat, responded imperiously declaring, "Fine ..We shall sing Ten Songs together, then..".!! So the album which was ultimately titled "BARCELONA", was born... When news of their collaboration became known, it was greeted with scorn and derision for both Freddie and Montserrat, who was even accused of betraying her "Operatic Heritage". Combining "Pop" Music with elements of Opera had never been done because it was impossible, it was claimed. Dire consequences were forecast for both, yet undeterred they pressed on.. Their first public performance of the duet was in October 1987, at the prestigious "KU CLUB on the island of "Ibiza", where it received instantaneous, rapturous acclaim, silencing their detractors forever. Sometime later the organising committee for the city of Barcelona's bid to host the 1992 Summer Olympics, asked to use the powerful ballad, as part of their submission. It was enthusiastically agreed to and the bid was indeed successful. Freddy and Montserrat's last live performance of the epic duet, was at the lavish celebrations held at Barcelona's huge "La Nit" open air concert venue in October of 1988, to officially welcome the "Olympic" flag to the city. It was truly a spectacular event as can be seen on KZfaq videos.. Whilst some hoped that Freddy and Montserrat would sing it at the games "Opening Ceremony", Freddy had already confided to his dear friend and Duet partner that he would not survive to witness the occasion. He sadly died 7months before the event. Montserrat Caballe only performed the legendary duet once after Freddy's demise and that was to a recording of his voice, but it completely drained her emotionally and she never repeated it, preferring to keep the duet as a lasting memory and tribute to her Dear Departed Friend and Soulmate. Sadly the great Diva too, has now passed also, yet thanks to Technology we can still be enthralled by their combined musical magic..!!

You kind of jumped in on the deep end here. This is a VERY American composition that I doubt most Americans your age understand in terms of history and significance. The basic backgrounds on the songs in the medley: 1st (Oh I wish...) & 4th (flute) parts - Dixie is the nickname for the American South; the song _Dixie_ is its beloved regional anthem. It was used as the unofficial national anthem of the Confederate States of America, the Southern side during the War Between the States, aka the US Civil War, 1861-65. 2nd (Glory, glory...) & 5th (drums, trumpet, Glory...) - _The Battle Hymn of the Republic_ is an abolitionist hymn that was adopted as the rallying song of the Northern states/government troops during the WBtS. It's still sung by all as a patriotic song, although not all Southerners have always liked it. 3rd (So hush...) - _All My Trials_ is a (Southern) gospel/folk song about what a dying Christian mother (Elvis/male singers change the lyric to 'daddy') says to her children. So, it's the South, the North (thus the whole country), parental love, human mortality, the eventual Divine triumph, and God. A powerful combination. Wherever you're from, you're going to die, and God will have the final word. Very American. Very Elvis.

This movie, A Star Is Born, is remade once every 10 to 20 years. The first version I remember was made in the 1950's with Judy Garland. I do seem to remember there was at least one version made before that. I didn't watch it bc I thought it would be a let-down after the 1970's version. Judy Garlands version was also exceptional and is probably my favorite.

Thank you for watching this & posting your reaction! I liked it! I'm glad you realize this was VERY SPECIAL!!!! Harry Belafonte was the one who came up with the idea. Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie wrote this song themselves the night before it was recorded. Harry Belafonte, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie got some behind the scenes folks to get people together. Ultimately they got 46 singers to come together to do this charitable project. FORTY SIX recording artists! Plus there were many more musicians from many different bands who came together with their instruments to lend their musical talents - guitars, drums, keyboards, etc. They heard about all the poverty & famine in Africa and learned people were dying and wanted to help!! So more than 55 famous people came together to help. ALL involved came together with NO attitude, NO stipulations, NO demands. They came together out of the goodness of their hearts!!! ALL of the money collected DID go to feed the needy in Africa minus 10% that went to the homeless in America!! AND NO ONE was paid!!!!! THEY ALL DID THIS FOR FREE!!!!!!!! FOR FREE out of the kindness/goodness of their hearts!!!!! So this was in fact SO VERY SPECIAL!!!!!! PLEASE go to Wikipedia and read ALL of the details about how many charts this topped, how many millions of albums were sold, how many millions of dollars were collected and how MANY MANY celebrities participated!!! Then I challenge you to google ALL of the individuals who participated to learn HOW GREAT each of them are/were. And I also challenge you to listen to the music of the ones you don't know. Then after you listen to each of the artists music I challenge you to come back and watch this again with a new reaction!! This was done 40 years ago. I remember it vividly and every time I watch this it brings me to tears. Sadly 8 of the 46 have passed since this was released. RIP to: Ray Charles, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Al Jarreau, June & Anita Pointer. This was a LEGENDARY & EPIC project and it will NEVER NEVER be done again!!!!

I admit it….I’m an old lady who cannot understand most of what you’re saying because I’m somewhat deaf now and I’ve always had trouble with accents. I’m from Nashville, Tennessee so you’d probably have trouble understanding me, as well. 😊However, I do so love watching you two react to these videos. You’re both adorable, and your enthusiasm always makes me smile…even on bad days. I love Billy Strings. My middle son who loves bluegrass introduced me to his music last month and I’m completely hooked and down deep in the rabbit hole. LOL! Thanks for covering this one. You did a fantastic job!❤️
