What areas are you looking at when throwing frogs, other than Lilipads?
@BassBrawlOutdoors
@BassBrawlOutdoors 28 күн бұрын
@@hardwaterfanatic I’m targeting mostly open water areas out in front of pinch points, bays that narrow and open up into main lake areas etc. Some of our bays have 4-5’ and clean areas and those are great spots too. I do fish some thick stuff but I’m finding schools of fish in the open areas.

Great video, even for a lowrance user...just getting used to the scanning process. Thumbs up for that. 1 thought, many video watchers are on phones, so maximizing what you are showing... the right side, humingbird screens would even be more valuable with a much smaller image of you talking. Just improves your message of the great teaching you put out. Tight line and be safe on the water. Will be out scanning Tuesday in nw TX under the bimini that is a life savor for summer bassin in the heat.

My plan was to make a phone version too, but for this youtube version I wanted it to be full screen and feel like you were with me while I was scanning and could see all the screens at the same time with ease. Thanks for that input!

Amazing video! Been looking for a video like this for awhile now. Loved how you showed what is and isn't a good looking spot and how you'd waypoint them. A couple questions for you... 1) Why do you tend to graph perpendicular to the structure instead of going up it length wise? 2) Seemed like you never really saw any bass on your graphs, is that just the nature of the beast on these kinds of lakes? 3) You seemed to be targeting a specific depth range with your graphing (10-15'), why that range, is there a reason you never looked deeper? Thanks Casey, love the content!
@BassBrawlOutdoors
@BassBrawlOutdoors Ай бұрын
Thanks! 1 - A couple reasons - and no right or wrong - If I scan with a point or hump right down the heart of it, sometimes the stuff below the boat is either in a dead spot, or doesn't show up the best, so knowing that it runs out on each side of my boat like I do it lets me see the majority of it good. Also, coming from deep water up to the structure and back off it to deep water, when doing a couple times on each piece, lets me see if there's activity like baitfish, gills, etc suspended or right on the breaks. Perp works totally fine, just always have done it like the way I showed. 2 - Yes and no - The day I scanned, the spots were loaded with little gills and baitfish, and there were no bass out on those spots. I fished a half dozen just to check they weren't stuck to rocks or bottom hiding, and didn't catch any to confirm the graphs lol!! 3 - The lakes in my area seem to have a ton of structure in that 8-15'. Our fish do go deeper, but they are roamers and suspenders and that is tougher to target. My goal is to find the structure in that range you mentioned, and it's going to have weeds/rocks/bait and a good chance at holding schools of fish. You could easily have lakes that have structure out deeper, I've just gotten use to how ours are setup and they all are somewhat the same. I think the biggest key is knowing the depth the weeds end, and finding the structure that is right where they end giving the fish multiple reasons to use that area.

@@BassBrawlOutdoors Thanks for the response Casey! These are all great tips. And I appreciate your honesty on point #2 LOL. I was wondering if the fish were there and just not showing up, or if they just weren't there at all. Seems like they just weren't there. Thanks!
@BassBrawlOutdoors
@BassBrawlOutdoors Ай бұрын
@@natrix19 on giant lakes, there might be a thousand "good looking spots", but on our smaller 600-2500 lakes, you might only have 4-12 spots that really stand out as homeruns. So when I scan and see the really good looking stuff, seeing fish at that time only matters for that day if they are using it or not, I know at some point in the season it's more than likely to have a bunch of nice fish holding on it. Once I have the main milk run established, the next time I get to that lake it only takes a short time to roll a few spots, and/or make a few casts and know if it's game on or time to go up shallow and fish.

I have been seeing people sell these hummingbird 360s the non megas for near dirt cheap, is it worth trying to pick one of these up? Or do you gotta get the mega 360 to be effective? Looks like a guy could get an entire setup for less than 700 dollars as long as the new helix is still compatible with the non mega. Quite a few places are letting Last years model go for cheap half off

I loved my 2 Phoenix boats. I walk in my garage to my iKon, especially after having it on the water and putting it through the paces, and smile every time I see it. I love the body lines. I love the monsterous front deck. One thing I wasn't expecting was how great it pulls behind the truck. Seats are very comfy. Cooler actually keeps ice in it. The finished compartments are great. The room around the 3 front graphs is crazy, I can walk around and stand on the nose of the boat or access the trolling motor when down if I need to adjust the height very easily. If I had to go buy a different boat tomorrow, another iKon would be coming home with me.

How does it drive? Any porpoising at any speeds or any listing to one side with someone else in boat with you?
@BassBrawlOutdoors

I'm by myself 99% of the time, so the first time I loaded the boat in this video I had all my heavy stuff on the port side to balance my weight out. It floats perfect and drives level. At 20mph if you don't have jackplate and trim correct it started to porpoise and I just gave it a tad of gas pedal and it went away. At speeds faster then that it drove great. My wife went for a boat ride yesterday, and at 20mph (because she doesn't like any wind in her face at all) it had some list to her side - that was with all my gear over there and her. If I gave it a little more gas it flattened right out. Based on that info, 18-20mph is just not a speed I use. Most of the time I'm in that 35-40 easy crusing speed so my camera gear doesn't get banged around, or wide open. I'm also rethinking putting all my heavy stuff on the port side, bow lift and takeoff are awesome and I'm going to try and just leave it all in the front center storage area. Today on a full throttle run it had zero chine whatsoever and just feels good driving. I've had Skeeter's, Tritons, Rangers, Phoenix and so on - This boat I have now is pretty special and I'm enjoying the heck out of it so far!!

If I had to guess, I'd say no - just based on not seeing any colonies on my 360 - but there were definitely bluegills around the weeds and clumps etc - so yes the gills were still a factor.

That's a loaded question with 150 different variables. I have 3 big graphs up front on a big heavy mount. Apex 16, 13 and solix 12. 52" ultrex quest which has a bigger base, target lock and mega live /mega 360. With all my gear - minus a few extra rods, livewells full, I hit 68.5 today. I only have 5 hours on the motor and not fully broke in yet. I have lithiums in the back and too much weight on the front. It's a 21' boat, and to compare to my Phoenix 920 Elite, that was a 74-75mph boat BEFORE I rigged it this same way. Once I did that, 68-69 is all I could get 99% of the days. I might throw some weight in the rear just to see if it helps get the back down and more balanced. If I took the graphs off and put some helix or lighter units up front it would/could make a lot of difference. Also - my graph mounts are being redesigned up front and at the console. Front is tipped more and shorter arms to get the graphs down and not up like a sail. Same at console, dropping them 2" lower - today I could hear the wind whistling off the console units as they were fully catching full wind.

Great video angles, what were you using? Was the audio from the cameras? What were you using to catch all those North Pike??? I just ordered a OT PDL 106 in Blue Steel Camo, I can't wait.... I'm new to kayaks! One last question, how did you like your PFD with the seat? Did your PFD hit on that upper part of you PFD when you were peddling? Thank you
@BassBrawlOutdoors

I had gopros on some yak attack mounts. I wear a small voice recorder in my pocket and mic clips inside my shirt. The pike would hit anything that moved, that lake was too full of them so I actually left. I was looking for bass and was tired of unhooking pike. You'll love that PDL!!!! The PFD actually worked better than I thought, but I switched to an auto inflatable one that I also use in my boat that is small, light, and you don't know you have it on. Good luck with your new kayak!!

Sorry bro, I usually like your content very much but any electronic aid that solves 99% of the battle (your words) for you isn't about skill, study and years of practice anymore. It's the fishing version of spotlighting a deer and there's just nothing to respect in it.

I’m on year 43 of fishing, so have put more hours than imaginable into this fishing thing. Well before graphs were real common and was lucky to know the depth. Making 1000 blind casts isn’t really teaching you much besides setting the hook once in awhile. Seeing the fish on forward sonar and how the react to not only your bait but the cover and structure has taught me 100000x then guessing what my bait and fish were doing out of my sight. I hunt also, comparing sonar to spotlighting a deer isn’t even in the same zip code. I agree many use this as a shortcut, but there are guys like me that have put in a lifetime of work and I’m not going to apologize for using this awesome technology.
@cloutmaster965
@cloutmaster965 4 ай бұрын
I don’t own scope yet, but I’ve used it with my buddy. Scoping is just sight fishing and anyone who’s sight fished before knows it’s definitely fishing not catching. People hating on sonar either can’t afford it or don’t really know what they’re talking about most of the time.

With the fishing pressure we have nowadays. Sponging bluegills should be protected. And the fishing season for gills should be closed during that time. I know of too many lakes that are good panfish lakes. That have depleted population of bluegills. And, besides the DNR hopefully doing their job by helping to replenish the bluegills. Closing the fishing for gills during their sponging, would help at least somewhat, replenish. There population. Pan fish are way too vulnerable during that time.
