For that primer that you use, Do you thin out the primer?

No thinning of the primer. Just crank the compressor up to 40psi. I'll have a separate video on using all different primers coming up soon.

Excellent and enlightening video. Where do you buy your magnets?
@itsallthingsart
@itsallthingsart 7 күн бұрын
Amazon. Neodymium magnets.. just need to know what size you need. I was using 8mm in the video.. one by itself would be good for portraits & arms. But between 6mm to 10mm would be a good range.

A few other questions ... 1. Do you use this thinner with the primer and Vallejo Model Air paint? 2. Do you thin everything to "skim milk" consistency? 3. Curious as to why you spray primer at 40 PSI and the base coating at 20 PSI. What result would you get if you sprayed the primer at 20 PSI? (You can tell how green I am LOL) Thanks again.
@itsallthingsart
@itsallthingsart 7 күн бұрын
@@GhostOfTheRedBaron I don't use their Air paint.. it's already pre-thinned. I'd rather buy their normal paint line like Model or Game and thin it myself. You'll get more value. Thinner is only for the paint. No thinner for primer. Yes till it drips off the stirring brush. Primer is not thinned so it requires more air pressure to spray through the needle. If I sprayed primer at 20psi it probably wouldn't go anymore.. it's too thick.

@@itsallthingsart Thanks for the reply. I find that Vallejo Model Air paints can differ widely vis-a-vis their thickness.

Great build! A few questions if I may: 1. At what PSI are you spraying? 2. What size is your airbrush needle? 3. How are you managing to avoid the Vallejo paint drying on the needle tip? - something which it's notorious for doing... Thanks!

@@GhostOfTheRedBaron for primers around 40psi. Base coating around 20psi. Shading and highlights between 10-15psi. I actually keep the compressor at 20 and use my Mac valve to drop the pressure a little. Airbrush is .35 .... I use an Iwata Eclipse and most recently Iwata HP-CH with Mac valve. I absolutely never have dry tip anymore. I use a homemade thinner of distilled water, isopropyl alcohol and flow improver. I did a video last year on my setup.. it's an older video that I hope to update this year but it still has all the info. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbF-a5Z3uaqrXYk.html

Hello, thank you for the excellent video, please explain since after all, uvet serves as a shade of one or another skin color. You showed one of the skin shades, but if I want a lighter or slightly darker one, what should I start from? From the very first base layer, so that it serves as a vector or does it work differently? I am very interested in the moment at which I can start playing with colors in order to understand what final result I will get. Please give me your advice
@itsallthingsart
@itsallthingsart 14 күн бұрын
It depends on which skin tone you're going for. Yes I used a lighter skin tone. So if you wanted a darker or even lighter skin tone you would have to adjust your colors. If you're not into mixing your own paint.. then look for acrylic skin painting sets. They come with different ranges of skin tones for light, medium, dark as well as more specific sets for reder skin, or fantasy characters for example. All other steps from the video would still apply. You're basically trying to create the layer of flesh under the skin, by adding veins, muscle tissue, pores and so on.. which then gets covered up again at the end with a light spray of the base color.. which acts as your top layer of skin in real life. Look at anatomy diagrams with muscle tissue examples, it'll help you understand what's happening beneath the skin.. if you're trying to achieve a realistic effect. If you're just going for a simple skin tone.. then just follow the guide with applying highlights and shadows.. and adjust your base color to whatever color fits your character/model.

Love the Ghost machine stuff 👍👏👏. May I ask you a question about the painting. I love Sideshow, and lately the production pieces are closer then ever to the prototype. But when the factory is not able to live up to the prototype. Does it only rely on the talent of the person who paints. Or does it also lies on the equipment that they use. Or the time pressure. Because sometimes the production doesn't really live up and then mostly we get the " they used a bad factory " . But that is maybe to easy to just say that. My feeling is just like in sport and everything else that is matters from the talent and that is different from person to person. Would that be correct 🤔
@itsallthingsart
@itsallthingsart 16 күн бұрын
Yeah there's always going to be a difference, hopefully not too much. It's comparing Sideshows paint team, a small group considered the best of the best, painting one or two prototypes.... to dozens of Asian workers in a factory, in lower living conditions, painting hundreds and thousands of these things. However Sideshows "master painters" know that these have to be reproduced and will also dumb down the paint techniques this way they can be replicated for fast production. If you hire a true "master painter" they will spend the time making the piece look as best as possible, but at the same time you're also paying double the price.
