That is a very helpful tactic, especially since we really like our squirrels too. It's a win win! In our case, a few of the craftier squirrels were bypassing their food in favor of the expensive suet cakes. The problem was that those squirrels would eat a block of suet in hours. Thus, my umbrella idea was born! 😄Now, the squirrels are happy with their own food and the birds actually have a chance to eat their suet 👍

Great design! I plan on building one this weekend or at least in the very near future. I’m an avid DIYer and can figure out the design details from this video. The only thing that is puzzling me is the saw to tray adapter. I couldn’t catch a glimpse clear enough to understand how it works. Can you describe the concept a little more? Like how the hose clamp is secured to the bolt?
@UnchartedDIY
@UnchartedDIY 2 күн бұрын
Thanks, Brian. The solid part of a hose clamp is folded in two and wrapped around the eyebolt. The ends have a hole drilled in them so that it fits into the saw chuck exactly like a blade would. Have fun building and using your shaker table!

I have one and have used it for about 5 years now and its not really an issue. Its in the corner of the den when we're in the living room. I'll put it in a bedroom with the door closed sometimes and just get a longer hose. For that matter, I could probably put it in the garage under a cardboard box and get a 75' hose.

It doesn't shut off, but it does cycle from AC to fan and back to AC and fan again. It does this to keep the temperature in the room within a few degrees, and acts just like a furnace thermostat. There's a big difference in the sound it makes between the two modes. Is this what you are asking?

Very good video. Mine was a little different for bearings. The bearing at the end of the gear was a small roller bearing. It was in pieces. I replaced it with the ball bearing suggested. There was no other bearing. The stem also gets wider after the first bearing so if the was another bearing it would have to be a bigger one. I feel there may have been a minor update to the pump. Any way, after cleaning it and oiling it and new bearing, the brushes run far more than expected being air driven. Not to see if this. $5 garage sale shampooer will do its job once more. 🙏

Glad it helped. Cutting metal that thick may be too much for the blade I showed, so start off with light pressure and take your time. Just my follow up…..I think I’m going to have to try an alternative strategy. I finally received the saw blades yesterday and I didn’t have a manual for my dw705 compound miter saw so I got one. Of course it says not to cut ferrous metals but I disconnected the safety and put the saw blade in….i cannot figure out a way to safely connect a “jig” to the fence. There aren’t any holes in the fence and clamping doesn’t seem to be holding (could be the quick clamps) but there aren’t really flat surfaces to clamp to or my clamps aren’t deep enough. I’m also not used to the sparks 😅 but the bigger thing is securely and consistently securing the pieces. It might even be easier to create a jig using a metal square and insert the blade in a circular saw. Think I’ll think about it. Really appreciated the video anyway. Like to noodle these things through.

That tar coating from Dial works well. But I'm not convinced that it doesn't leach petroleum particulates into the water that is then pumped into the house, aggravating respiratory issues that one of us has. I checked out Flex Seal and it's completely inert when cured. Just being cautious. The Rust-Oleum solves a lot of rust issues, especially when treated with Rust Restorer first. If your rust is really bad, I'd use Rustoleum Rust Reformer before spraying a top coat. It can be applied directly onto rust and basically bonds with the rust and seals it. I would then use a rust preventative spray paint, such as Rustoleum Stops Rust. There are colors that are pretty close to the factory color, but with fading, I'd plan to spray the whole outside surfaces so the color is uniform.

How hot does it get and how long does it take to create usable compost? Do you think gluing insulation to the outside would help speed up the process?
@UnchartedDIY
@UnchartedDIY Ай бұрын
The compost can reach temps of around 120F to 160F (49C to 71C), and it can take from 3 to 6 months. The time frame is dependent on what the materials are, the balance between green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials, amount of moisture, and frequency of turning the tumbler. Ours seems to be closer to the 3 month time frame in the summer, and closer to 5 months in the winter. As for insulation, I do think it would speed things up and keep the temperatures more consistent. Higher and more consistent temps helps break down the organic material faster. However, it is important to not block any of the air holes and vents, since the microbes need oxygen to do their work. I'd love to hear how you insulate and what kind of results you see. Thanks for watching, and happy composting!

I suspect the trigger switch or a solenoid is to blame, but since I haven't had to deal with that problem yet, I can't give specific advice. If you have a multimeter, you might be able to track the problem down. I know it sounds crazy, but if you can't get it to work you could mix your hot water and carpet detergent in a pressure sprayer that you pump up by hand. Spray it on a section of carpet and then vacuum it up with the carpet cleaner. A bit of a pain, but you could still keep using your machine! In case you don't know what kind of sprayer, here's an Amazon link to show you what I'm talking about: amzn.to/3V5RgLu Make sure it has an adjustable nozzle so you can control the spray pattern. I would use the same moderate temperature that you would put in the cleaner's tank, and you don't need to pump up a bunch of pressure to spray the carpet. Hope that helps and I'd love to hear if you are able to fix it, or if you go with the sprayer. Thanks for watching!

@@UnchartedDIY thank you kindly for your reply. I am tempted to think it is the trigger. Are you aware of this is the case? Thanks
@UnchartedDIY
@UnchartedDIY Ай бұрын
I think that's how they work. I wonder if you might just have a bad valve? You could try switching the water and detergent tank valves to see if it is a valve, otherwise it is probably the switch. Also, check the plastic base of the water tank to see if the glue that holds it to the water tank might have come loose and allowed the tank to sit too high, preventing the valve from opening.

@UnchartedDIY
@UnchartedDIY Ай бұрын
Thanks Matthew! Contrary to popular belief, pocket hole joinery isn't just an aesthetic choice. Let me explain... Yes, you can just screw through the face (called a butt joint), but unless done properly it may not be as strong as a pocket joint. That's because with butt joints, the screws are going into end grain rather than face grain. There are pros and cons to each, and I have a chapter discussing this and demonstrating how to do both types in the available plans. There are lots of KZfaq videos covering this too. Either way, you can get a strong joint so there is no need to purchase a pocket hole jig if you don't already have one. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍

If you replaced the valves on both sides, I'd check to make sure the detergent bottle valve is lined up on the same level with the valve on the hot water tank. The detergent bottle is glued onto the hot water tank, so if it sits too high or too low, one valve may seat properly while the other is still sitting too loosely. Also, check the connections where the valves "plug in" to make sure there is no debris in the seat. I hope that makes sense, and I'd love to know what you find.

@UnchartedDIY
@UnchartedDIY 2 ай бұрын
I can point you in the direction I would look. First, check the screen to make sure it's clean Then, the clear "nozzle" that attaches to the machine and houses the brushes has a very thin slot at the front for sucking up the water from the carpet. Sometimes dog hair and debris can clog that slot enough to lower suction. That clear nozzle also has the connection port for the accessory hose. I'd check the o-ring on the port cover. If that is broken or the cover doesn't seal well, it can create a vacuum leak. Finally, there are two rubber seals where the recovery tank connects. There's one large ring that is visible when the tank is off and is easy to get to. Make sure that is not cracked and is sitting properly. Then, underneath that big seal is a small o-ring that seals the motor cover to the base housing. It might be cracked. That one requires digging further into the machine and it can't be seen with the housing on. I actually have another video in the works that shows how I fixed a huge water leak that was pouring out of the base, not related to the detergent tank. In that video, I disassembled the cleaner enough to see that last o-ring that I referred to. It may be a another few weeks for the new video. I hope these help, and I'd love to hear if any of these fix the problem.

My experience with it is clearly different than yours, and it sounds like yours has been bad. 🙁 I'm not being sarcastic, but maybe you should make a video about your experience. And if you know of something better, comparing the two devices would be very helpful.

How about we just go after the manufacturers, they are the ones making these crap machines, I never believed in suing people, because I understand shit happens, but these are life-saving machines, and they should be held to higher standards, i’m sure eventually a lawyer will pick this up, and they will take most of the money for almost saving someone’s life, I guess it just takes enough people to complain, we need to make a loud noise in their living room

I like the idea of making noise in their living rooms! I totally agree it begins with the companies. If you've ever seen inside an Invacare concentrator, you'd be amazed that there is zero effort made toward noise reduction.

Thank you for the video. It helped me diagnose the issue on mine. The bearing was fine, but the metal splined shaft from the turbine had worn away the teeth in the plastic helical gear that would then turn the second gear with the square drive. Fortunately, enough was left to reverse engineer and allow me to design and 3D print a replacement!

I am so glad it helped you out, and reverse engineering the gear is genius. When I first got my 3D printer I had no idea it would be so incredibly useful, but I have fixed SO MANY things with it! If you end up posting the .stl file somewhere, I'd be happy to post a link in the video description to help other people with printers fix theirs too. Happy carpet cleaning!

Do these things measure length indirectly, too? (Horizontal Pythagorean, has he drunk too much?) What if you want to know the total distance for Pythagorean to hang a Happy Birthday Banner underneath in the same exact size?

"Horizontal Pythagorean" does sound like the name of a drink, or maybe a band name 😁 The same method I demonstrated for height works for horizontal measurements too. Just rotate your orientation and points of reference, and you're good to go. Thanks for watching!
