That's some really good advice, mate. I've owned boats most of my life but not a Bass boat; those bass boats are the F1s of the water, IMO. I'm about to pick up my first Bass boat, a "RANGER" imported from the good ole USofA. It won't see many lakes, but it will see a lot of Australia's largest river and plenty of trophy Murray Cod I'm hoping. We have a lot of Cod, but they are elusive, a fish every 1000 casts if your lucky. No live scope, I just grind all day. it feels better when you catch one, using your brains instead of tech. A trophy fish starts at 1m, around 50lb. here's hoping I don't get pulled overboard 👍🏻 Thanks again for the advice🍻

A good idea is go do ure day like ya know how beat the bank or whatever u do,then have something picked,and go ther and idel it for an hour or so before u go home,that way makes it easier ta still wanna do it because ure getting ta go and still catch sum fish,and the learning at the same time.remember 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water

@@johnkommer2842 Thank you so much for your replies. This is exactly how I've been approaching it lately. I spend about half my time power fishing the bank, and then the other half graphing and throwing at some ledge fish. I'm still picking up a few shallow every time so that keeps me going. I'm learning the trick to the ledges is being patient until you can get them to fire up. It's something I'm not used to, I've always tried to run and gun so sitting on a ledge for a while is tough haha.
@johnkommer2842Ай бұрын

Danny and Jamey at Performance Fishing Electronics are great folks! Seems like you missed a lot of fish in this tournament. Any idea why? I ask because I've been missing a lot of fish on plastic worms because the worm balls up on the hook. I've been experimenting with different hooks hoping to find a solution.
@JimmyWashamFishing2 ай бұрын
I definitely missed or lost several, but I contribute it to catching spawning spots. Sometimes they were just trying to get the bait off the nest. I'd have to know what kind of bait and hook you are having issues out of to give any input on your bait balling up on the hook point.
@Doug_Goin2 ай бұрын
@@JimmyWashamFishing I've been using Gamakatsu Offset Shank, Round Bend Worm Hooks in 3/0 or 4/0. My favorite worms are 7.5 inch Culprits, but I'm having the same issue with Zoom Trick Worms, and most other worms. The only thing that seems to help is running a toothpick through the worm and the hook eye. I grew up fishing plastic worms on Tru-Turn hooks every time I could go fishing, and I don't remember having issues with them. I ordered some Tru-Turns to see if that's the ticket. Any advice you can share will be appreciated!
@JimmyWashamFishing2 ай бұрын
@@Doug_Goin that is the same hook I use in the 2/0 for the Klone Ringo Texas and Carolina rigged. My best guess is that you are running the hook point too in-line with the worm body, therefore the hook penetration is just going upward and continuing through the worm instead of projecting out of the body into the fish. You may try placing the hook point just barely out of the skin of the worm, where it can barely be felt by pressing with your finger. If that doesn't do it, go to a 4/0 EWG and that will do it. I use a Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG light wire for 12" worms offshore, and it gaffs 'em. Hope this helps.

I used to have a 19ft Champion. Best rough water boat I had. Got caught in one storm during a tournament and we had to go across the lake we were fishing. It was almost like you could see the wind and heavy rain coming like a wall. Hit the first wave that went from calm to 4ft white caps. It was like hitting a ramp. Only 50mph at 3/4 throttle and we were airborne. Speared the next wave and the engine was out of the water. Felt like forever but the boat resurfaced motor still running. Hit the livewell dump and both bilge pumps even though one was a auto pump I Hit both as the boat was full of water. Trimming up and half throttle kept the nose up and you could feel the water weight coming off. Just kept a even throttle and stayed on top of the waves and made it back to the ramp. Once safe started refilling the livewell and finished 2nd. Partner was 5th. We were soaked but never so happy to have the boat back on the trailer. A few took cover and skipped weigh in. We would have but we were already half way across the lake and pretty much committed.
