Thinking outside the box, but wouldn't be simpler putting the spring on the bike, attach it to the stand and then bolting the stand to the bike? Surely there is more leverage to be had on the stand, and 1 bolt and then pull the other side to then slot the bolt. I have never done this, but will be soon.

Yeh tried that Kris as it does seem the most obvious but just didn't work 😵‍💫...for me anyway. But I turned 70 as I did that GS, a younger fitter guy may find it is easy🤣

@@kristaylor92 Brilliant Chris, you will love working on it and bringing it up to spec. My son Jason lost confidence after his bike blew up so I sold it. It was sold on a year or so ago and the new owner has contacted me and it is going well. Worth spending your time and getting to know it inside out. I did the BMW Off Road School last year in Wales...boy if ever you can do it then you must...says me who came off 5 times on the first day, couldn't climb the stairs in the B&B that night, but what an experience🤩

Hola. Podeis comprobarlo. Un saludo.

I've just bought the larger version of this for my 23 GSA. It's black and although well made the plate the material used is barely up to the job, it twists and flexes under the weight of the bike a fair bit giving you the felling of instability. My garage floor is matted with quality solid PVC tiles which are smooth, anything but smooth, anything other and it's not going to be easy. Because of the instability on anything other than a smooth floor, I think there's a risk of the bike possibly tipping over. I've got another dolly from a another manufacturer and the plate the Wunderlich is made of is a good few mm thinner. Sadly this latter version doesn't have the off set back wheel and the stand interferes with the frame and can't be fully deployed. At £169 it's not value for money, more evidence of cost cutting to protect profit margins!
@normski3091
@normski3091 Ай бұрын
Hi Gundimuck, I never had any issue with the thickness of the plate, maybe they have changed it, and once I managed to get my RT on the Easy Park then all was well. Just that it needed so much effort to operate the centre stand I normally gave up exhausted. Then I changed my bike to the 1250GS…no chance. For a start I could hardly ever get the GS on its centre stand anyway so just impossible to get it on the Wunderlich 🥵. I too was worried sick that the GS would tip over. So I put it on eBay and so relieved that I never have to think about it again. A muscular ex soldier bought it😮
@Gundimuck
@Gundimuck Ай бұрын
@@normski3091 Yes I think they've changed the spec of the plate used, or changed supplier, as mentioned to increase profits. Mine was in a box marked very clearly on the sides with "Bike It" with just a printed sticker naming Wonderlich. I assume from that it's bought in and relabeled. Wether that is Wonderlich or Nippy Normans doing that I've no idea. I have personally have no issues with getting the bike on the stand, just that it's not as stable as it should be. I don't think it will fall off on smooth surfaces. Just feels unstable as you pull/push the bike. It could well be a different story on anything but smooth surfaces.

Hi Richard, I have always found that powder coating is really tough. On another bike I powder coated the crash bars, dropped it, crash bars took a beating but sanded out and resprayed in satin black and you could not tell the difference. To raise the back wheel you could put a bigger piece of MDF ( wider and taller) and then place it in front of the back wheel. You could even climb the piece of MDF with the engine help, It should be easier than pulling the bike backwards

Thank you for a great tutorial. Refitting the reaction bar at 13:55 you mention the torque as 100Nm. Following this torque I managed to snap the bolt. Researching the failure other sources state 43Nm for 04-09. Should this be revised for the tutorial or was my bolt due? Yes I often wonder that myself. It must be the same engine in the RT for 2005 - 2007 but I have never heard of an RT engine blowing up like the stories of the GS?? What on earth does that mean? I fitted the second hand 2005 engine into my son's GS as you see on the video and then sold the bike. Last year I heard from yet another owner who had bought the bike from a dealer and he said it was running perfectly. So it just seems that it is only a few bikes that fail? Of course you never know which ones🥵

So what caused the failure? I call B.S. that just happened out of no where un provoked.. he either got on it and started riding the hell out of it before the engine was all the way warm or he downshifted bad or forgot to upshift or just plain didn’t change his oil I put the wrong weight oil or perhaps his valves are just so far out of adjust that they actually had to contact but who knows I’m not all that familiar with these all I know is I got mine with 80,000 miles 84,000 actually and I’m at about 95 now I love it and I ride the shit out of it it has not failed or blown up like that on me. Thank God had to do starter alternator several tires couple spark plugs view valve lash adjustments all my gearbox oil like five times my final drive oil, my forks, I had to reseal the fork seals and put the oil there you know the good stuff I did a clutch with the clutch slave my windscreen broke so I had to break something up with that other than that she saw it. Front room is bent. I’m gonna have to figure that out the ungodly expensive

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Snake has the reputation due to the high number of accidents and fatalities. That is a reality. However, the road itself ridden at 50mph has little or no danger. It is very nice and flowing. The issue is high speed drivers and riders who will crash. Also the turn onto Woodhead (as a local) is far easier if you turn the bike on approach as if you were going to turn left. Then the angles work in your favour.
