You gave me the verse we’re debating and your interpretation of it, with no external verses to support your interpretation. I gave you other verses to support my interpretation. At this point you’re just ignoring the statements I’ve made and saying you’re right without actually attempting to prove it. But yeah, I think I’m done with this discussion as well.

I believe my interpretation is correct because as I said, bread has been symbolically used to represent the word of God, and there are other verses from the Bible that I can use to support that particular claim. So when Jesus says to eat of his flesh and drink of his blood I believe that (in short) he is saying to read the Bible. Now, you can tell me I’m wrong, but I really need scriptural evidence that supports your claim, otherwise we really aren’t going to get anywhere with this. I’m not trying to attack or defend any particular belief, I just wanna find the truth. My claim has scriptural evidence that can support it, and you’re just telling me that I’m wrong for not interpreting it literally. And both of us should know that not every word that Jesus spoke was meant to be taken literally, for example, Matthew 5:30, when Jesus says that if your right arm offends you, cut it off. Obviously Jesus isn’t commanding self mutilation, but to flee from sin. So why would he mean we literally eat parts of his body? If you can show other verses to support a literal interpretation you can probably change my mind. I also agree with the verse “do this in memory of me”, I like communion as a tradition, I’m not against it whatsoever. Also, please just respond with a comment man.

I don’t say the verse John 3:16 contradicted the verse man, I said it contradicted your interpretation of it, and you’re labeling my questioning as “bashing” when I’m trying to find the conclusion to what we’re talking about. And see? You say I’m trying to lower it and make it “less than” just because im discussing my opinion and interpretation with you. I’m pretty sure I never said “you’re absolutely wrong and so are Catholics” I said “id like to talk about this, here’s my thoughts” and you act like I’m trying to attack Christ. And every time I’ve asked you for cited evidence of bread meaning flesh or for a biblical example of why I’m wrong, you act like I never even asked for it. I just don’t get why I’d want to participate in eating a part of Jesus, and despite the bread and wine retaining the same exact characteristics of bread and wine, you believe it is the actual flesh and blood of our God. And more power to you! I think it’s fine that you do it, but when you demonize me and say that I’m attacking Jesus because I interpret a a verse differently, yeah! That’s gonna make anyone at least uncomfortable. It makes it impossible to actually talk with you because I’m constantly having to explain that I’m not attacking your beliefs or Christ. There are other times in the Bible that bread is called the WORD rather than the flesh. And in past events in the Bible, when Jesus changed something into something else, it changed literally, entirely, the way it looked, smelled, felt and tasted, such as water to wine. So why would the bread and wine not literally become flesh and blood? The bread still tastes and feels like bread and the wine is the same.

Protestants think its just a euphemism for the bible ( the word )itself. But when Jesus says my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink... How can anyone not see that by refusing to do this .... that they are the ones that couldnt accept that teaching and they are the ones.that walked away from our Lord. They deny Jesus's power and the fact that He can and still does miracles.

Thank you for not saying that I’m attacking Jesus, and we do believe that he continues to perform miracles, friend. When Jesus turned water into wine it turned into wine, it didn’t stay as water, and so why would the bread and wine stay as bread and wine?

I’d like to talk about this, and before I comment I should say I’m not set in any particular denomination but I lie in with the Protestants, mostly because of the pope and baptism of babies but those are off topic. My thoughts about the communion, I think that Jesus taking the bread and giving it to them is pretty significant. For it to be literally his blood and flesh, wouldn’t Jesus himself need to give it away? I understand the significance of the tradition and I’m all for it, but our “interpretation” seems pretty literal, and aligns greatly with what the verse says.
@ZachariahMorningstar
@ZachariahMorningstar 25 күн бұрын
How do yall take a literal interpretation when you do not believe it is the literal body and the blood of Christ? You believe it is merely a symbol, and rarely do you celebrate Communion. The most often Protestants celebrate Communion is once a month. As to your question, "wouldn't Jesus himself need to give it away?", Jesus says do this in memory of me. I do not understand how any Protestant can say honestly "our interpretation seems pretty literal".

@@ZachariahMorningstar it just doesn’t logically follow man, when you eat that bread does it turn into meat in your mouth? I’ve only done communion once in my life (I also haven’t been much of a church goer, and I also used to be atheist) and when I did it, I had no idea what it was about or what we were doing. For me, it was just grape juice and a cracker. Keep in mind I’m not saying that you’re absolutely wrong, I ultimately don’t know, that’s why I’d like to have a CIVIL discussion about this, and I’d like you to provide me with biblical evidence to back up your claims, if possible.

@@SolaChristus1776 The bread and wine become the body and blood when a Priest takes the bread and says the words of Jesus "This is my body which will be given up for you." Holds up the wine says "This is my blood" Iam paraphrase a bit. At which point the bread and wine are the body and blood of Christ. Jesus said if you eat my flesh and drink my blood you have eternal life. Jesus is the bread of life. After the resurrection two disciples recognized Jesus after he broke the bread. Paul warns in Corinthians to not celebrate communion unworthily. Jesus in giving instruction on how to pray says "give us this day our daily bread", who is the daily bread Jesus, thats why Catholic Churches are open 6-7 days a week. Nearly everyday Mass is offered.

@@ZachariahMorningstar but there are other verses that contradict that interpretation, like John 3:16, when it says “whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” At the end of the day this boils down to the main debate between Catholics and Protestants, is it faith or works and faith that grants salvation? I just don’t think that the sacraments are what grant one entry into heaven, let alone communion. I think it’s a great tradition to keep alive, but if you really are eating and drinking the flesh and blood of Jesus, doesn’t that seem a bit, well, I don’t wanna blaspheme or disrespect it but it just seems strange. Not just because of the thought of cannibalism but we aren’t fit to wash his feet, let alone… eat a part of him.
@ZachariahMorningstar

@@SolaChristus1776 3:16 does not contradict that interpretation. I would say you are taking a literal interpretation of that verse but a symbolic interpretation of the multiple verses I provided. If you love someone and dont show it , what kind of love is that? If you have faith and do not act on that faith, is it faith? "I think its a great tradition to keep alive" Who began this tradition? Jesus Jesus told his disciples to eat his flesh and to drink his blood, dont worry many people 2000 had a problem with it, and they got it straight from Jesus' mouth. Jesus tells us to do it , yall Protestants lean too far in your own understanding. Your cannibalism comment was literally first said when Jesus first told people to eat his body and drink his blood. So dont bash a tradition that JESUS began , okay buddy?

Immigrants i feel because all of my grandparents were immigrants as children i think we need to let all who enter to come freely after they undergo a light vetting. Many mexicans are coming for asylum from illegal drug pushers etc. America is built on centuries of immigrants. And each nationality has faced conflicts from other established first or second generation immigrant-americans. The italian,the irish, the polanders, germans have all faced the same discrimination as they tried to establish families in America.

I had an open eyed vision of Jesus once. I was in a horrible spot in life and i was pleading to God for help. I was repeating the Jesus prayer over and over like a mantra and for 2 days straight. And then about 7 pm i heard an audible "POP" in the air above me and there He was. I was so frightened that i bolted across the driveway and sure i had imagined it i turned sround very slowly but He was still there and being a distance away i could see He wasnt alone... it was like a hologram scene very misty about 20 ' in the air. He was standing in the midst of a field and had 2 groups of people 1 on either side of Him. The people on His left side were all huddled togethor in small groups sitting on the ground and very quiet they were. The people on His right side were all all talking and happy. And every few minutes He would call out names from a paper He had in His hands and people from the left side would stand up and move to Him and He gave every person a hug and a kiss as He directed them to move to the right side of the field. The peopple were ecstatic with joy and i heard Him laugh at one point as i stood there with my mouth hanging open not believing what was going on in front of me. This went on for 20 minutes, and i remember this odd detail about it and that detail was i could see their breath in the air like it was very chilly where they were... yet it was a warm spring night in buffalo ny. Then a friend of mine saw me outside and pulled into my driveway to see what was up with me, and as soon as he did the whole scene vanished. Ive never been the same person since that night. (Thank God for large miracles)

It meant so much to me on so many levels I could never explain it fully to anyone. . But to sum it up I guess I'd say it was God showing me that i could have salvation too and it wasn't too late for me. For I came to faith late in my life and God was very hard on me at first. I know what Paul means when he says salvation through fear and trembling because I lived through a similar circumstance. I lived a debauched life for many many years and I used to laugh at religion especially Christianity I'm shamed to say that even now. Protestants had a role in my journey too it was through them God initially spoke to me but then He quickly steered me back to the Catholic Church i was born and raised in Catholocism but left when i was 19 or 20. Protestants are excellent at preaching and making you feel inspired, but anybody who does the homework on Martin Luther and says im happy to be Protestant ? Didnt do their homework. Did you know that Luther wrote a book entitled "On Jews and Their Lies " ? In it he encourages the burning down of homes,schools and synagogues ... And the nazi party even used quotes from this book to further their propaganda and to convince the german people that antisemitism had a long Christian history. This fact usually quiets the Protestant down considerably im sad to say. Martin Luther was a controlling manipulator and when he couldnt convert the Jews of his day he started a hate speech against them. Check out the audio book on youtube its disturbing to say the least... And. Soooo many prots bash the Catholic church its really deplorable Its almost as though thats their theology is to try and prove the Catholics wrong. Google search on this : the dark side of martin luther it truly opened my eyes.
