Yeah I only use the white sculpey for wrapping around my wire and aluminum form. I use super sculpey firm on top for detail.

Thats a good idea! I used to much clay just for this head. I need to be more efficient

Excellent video and sculpture! I prefer Sculpey Premo. It's a firmer clay and is great to sculpt. Sculpey 3 is just too soft. A favorite Sculpey I use a lot is the Granite style.

Lovely approach and pose. Are you using a life model? Also will the arms need hollowing for firing at this size? Thanks for sharing your very informative and interesting approach.
@SculptSomeАй бұрын
No i use photo reference. I'd love to use models but they very expensive. One day. On this sculpture i didnt hollow it out, but even when i do i try not to hollow the arms its too thin and it doesn't really matter that much. if you do hollow it out just hollow out the larger areas and vent them to the bottom. But on something this small i can do a slow fire even with the sculpture solid and it will not break.

Gorgeous work. As for what you're trying to say... I'm quite sure it's a statue of, as my colleague says, the 'last mistress' - hence the symbols of disease, death and decay. And indeed, at the time that you've sculpted the work, she was doing quite well for herself, with the twenty thousand that died in our country alone (more to mismanagement than the disease itself, but that's another story).

Why do you need to gut the inside?
@SculptSomeАй бұрын
When you fire the sculptures to harden the clay shrinks because water evaporates, and if its too dense it has no place to go and could crack and break. So you hollow it out and vent it so it can shrink. differet clays have different shrinkage rates, but can go up to 6%
