My solution to being adhd is by asking myself is this fun or can it be instantly monetized . If the answer isnt yes to one preferably both then just dont care about it. Just do whatever you enjoy and find easy all of the time . Why bash your head against a brick wall when you can punch through a paper one and get the same size reward instantly I cant use email, file taxes , deal with any kind of administrative task at all.Boring crap! I don't care one fun day of carpentry is enough to pay someone else to do it so why should i even engage with it at all. Monies just fun tokens to spend on amusement anyway. Life is short . Nobody has ever given me a logical reason not to spend it avoiding pain and chasing pleasure . The only reason adhd people ever feel bad is if they care about the opinions of others. Just don't care and life becomes easy.

i don't have adhd (i think) but that "eat the frog" does NOT work for me. what worked is I tackle the small and/or easy tasks first. I get happy that things got done even if small, and next thing I know, I have used a good chunk of time being productive while not feeling miserable.

The kind of person that I am I very rarely get angry but I will get so ridiculously sad that even certain words or phrases will make me want to die, give up, shut down I tend to blame myself most of the time Instead of "how could you do this to me?" It's usually "How could I mess this up again? What's wrong with me...so this is how it ends...they don't love me anymore and it's all my fault. I always manage to ruin things somehow..." A friend texted and told me that she had a busy day and wouldn't be able to "chit chat" with me that day about a month ago and my brain basically had a meltdown I understood the phrase chit chat to mean "meaningless and unimportant conversation" and I started questioning our whole relationship I thought she didn't value the relationship that all our time together was "meaningless and unimportant" to her and that I likely only had a few weeks at most left before she'd reveal that she never wanted to see me again It derailed my emotional state all day and I'm began internally bracing myself to let her go "It was a good run...I'll miss her, but I've survived the loneliness before. This always happens. Why'd you expect different this time...etc" I was basically in mourning by that night when we texted again and she asked about my day she could tell I wasn't ok and I told her what happened that morning and I KNEW I was probably overthinking but... Fortunately, she hadn't meant it like that at all and everything was ok we're still friends but it sucked

I was severely traumatized years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

The tip "I'm going to commit to x minutes on this" is really effective. It let's you acknowledge the task is big and it's ok that you don't finish it right now. The incremental commitments actually do add up over time and a lot of times you get on a roll and end up working longer.

This video is genius! You did a tremendous job gathering all aspects of effective ADHD planning into one video. I’ve read several famous books about planning and prioritization, and even completed a month-long training on planning. Despite this, I ended up with an endless task list and many incomplete goals. I developed some effective approaches on my own after failing with traditional planning systems, but now, thanks to you, I have a clear explanation of how it all works. Moreover, I’ve discovered some new and interesting techniques to test. Thank you!

My problem with breaking a project into small steps is, if the project is boring, my brain refuses to do so; but if it's exciting, i can think of infinite ideas about this project. After i finished one step, i may come up with five more. Eventually the steps are too many that it doesn't make sense any more, in which point i throw the whole thing away. I only realized I may have ADHD recently. Your video is a huge relief to me. Thank you, Jesse.

If your ten minute break is able to accomplish some other goals unassociated with the scary task, it can boost your sense of accomplishment. Ten minute break examples (read more of that book you've been meaning to read, time with the kids (let them know its a quick break, and tell them how beautiful they are and you love them), Workout (this is essential to your mental health), if you're at home quicky sex with your partner (make it known you're on a break, it's time constrained, but make it fun and light and still connect with your partner for that short period of time tell them how beautiful they are), call a friend/family you've been thinking of calling for a while (tell them it has to be a short call, but you hated how long its been since you've spoken, and find out their schedule so you can plan a longer conversation in the near future, tell them you love them), WORKOUT!, eat a healthy meal, clean something for ten minutes (it's bonkers how much cleaning you can do in ten minutes!), groom/shower if you haven't already, change your sheets if it's been a while, go for a walk and if the weather sucks go for a drive, plan you next healthy meal, check your credit card/account activity for unauthorized purchases, STRETCH!. Remember, if your sad its ok to cry, but its not ok to run from laughs and joy, seek it out with positive relationships, avoid the toxic. By positive relationship I don't just mean an echo chamber that only tells you what you want to hear, you need people willing to call you out on your BS but you should be open about your mental health with them willing to verbalize where your head is at, they just might be a source of grounding and perspective but don't exhaust them with your needs either and balance the conversation with checking in on them showing interest in them, if you need more than that? A therapist is someone paid for that. If you hit a road block with your productivity, try standing in the mirror while discussing the project, don't forget to tell yourself in the mirror "I believe in you".

I'm currently being assessed for adhd and autism. I've tried everything before this point... Intense research, buddism, spiritualism, fitness programmes (even became a fitness instructor on that hyperfixation ofcourse quit and lost interest) , 90 day change your habit programmes. In these times I was militant with determination perfectionism, scared to slow down becuase I didn't trust myself knowing fine well I'm going to be back to my pjs "procrastinating" the mind paralysed unable to do anything at all. All the while having more and more shame the harder I tried everytime. I look foward to feeling validated and liberated when I finally have an official diagnosis, probably with a mix of anger that my life could have looked so different if I had known sooner. Mixed emotions most likely. I feel validated with this video.

I make video games and see ADHD and ADD as issues all the time. Great for getting past really challenging obstacles but horrible and never finishing games and getting them out the door. I would love to see a whole strategy on how to manage a project and individuals where the majority or all of the staff is ADD / ADHD! Please include a section in your book on managing a business where ADD is the norm

Dude, fantastic! I have exactly the issues you describe. Also, in the tech industry they tried doing better scheduling but it always failed and they found out it was if you tried to put a number on an outcome it was never accurate, usually way off. Instead do exactly as you suggest at the end and put how many hours you will work on something as that is something you directly control. If you then don't like the outcome, add people, modify hours or schedule more work to be done but only in man-hours not the number of widgets to make. We're not psychic. No one can know how long something will take. (Ever notice this is why ALL auto mechanics have to look in a book to see the estimated number of hours and they are way more than you would think they should be, but they work!)

I'm watching this as a creative type who doesn't know whether I'm ADHD but I certainly don't respond to the same motivators as neurotypicals. I have learned not to take too much on, but how much is too much? I find it difficult to get to the meaningful creative stuff when I have other things that are important, have higher priority. It has nothing to do with the time available. It's how heavy the current situation weighs on me in the time available. If it's too heavy then I can't do the playful, creative experimentation and research processes needed for creative production. So it becomes either/or. Either I give up everything else in order to be creative (and therefore finances begin to get drained out), or I give up being creative and suck up the responsibility in front of me, generally money motivated but sometimes other grown up stuff that must be done like it or not.

This is so on point for me. Dopamine! I didn't get diagnosed til my 50s and without my medication, I look at my messy house, don't know where to start, and just stare into space instead. Then I feel guilty for staring into space instead of cleaning, so then I get depressed and anxious.....

100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma
