Great Video BRO!

Nicely done! I'll have to check out those last two clamps. I haven't used them before. And as far as coining Kupo as ripping off Cartellini clamps, US patents (and patents in most countries) don't last forever, so since the Cartellini clamp was invented in 1992, its patent likely expired in 2009-ish.
@cfl4286

Hadn’t thought about that! I know there’s several copycats out there. Impact, BHs brand, has their version. Not sure if they’re based in the US. As far as I can see, the kupo version is an improvement on the cardellini design. Time will tell how it holds up long term. Something that I forgot to mention in the video, it also doesn’t seize up or bind near as much, which is a huge plus. Cheers!

Thanks for the great video! I do think the better comparison would be your C boom vs. a steel boom arm. What does your C boom give you that say an Impact 86 inch boom arm doesn't? A menace arm would still be used in place of either if there's a heavy light involved or if the usable extension is much beyond 8 feet, no?
@cfl4286
@cfl4286 Ай бұрын
Absolutely! For one, the C Boom goes out longer than an impact arm (Not that I recommend going full extension all the time LOL but it can do it with a lightweight unit). But the biggest benefit for me is that if I don't use the C stand as a boom, then it's still useful to me as a c stand. Whereas a boom arm is mainly only useful for that one thing. So it really comes down to a matter of space savings. I have a van, so converting a stand to a boom is very valuable to me. If I had a large box truck then I'd probably carry a couple baby and junior boom arms just for the simplicity and speed :) hope this helps!

It was a little over a meter away. I don’t remember the output level, but can tell by looking it was probably about half brightness give or take maybe 10%. Those novas are bright.

@@RobertJohnPhotography nice kit! IMO the P600c is the best soft panel on the market. It is good as a key with the aputure softbox as long as you can keep it close to the subject. Farther away and it’s best to diffuse it with a 4x4 or something like that. Thanks for the subscription!

or … 🤦🏻‍♂️ a Menace arm Junior receiver, already has the rings …. sorry to spam your comments - hopefully the Algorithm accepts this offering on your behalf 😅
@kimsargenius4112
@kimsargenius4112 2 ай бұрын
But otherwise, if you want to get FANCY then the butt end of the C-stand is junior size so any Junior receiver should work. Maybe get just a Junior receiver and weld a ring to hook into? Or if you have a Baby Junior receiver adapter? Junior receiver goes on c-stand column and you could sling through the baby receiver Or, heck even a lollipop - attach the Junior receiver to the C-stand and then sling through the grip head
@cfl4286
@cfl4286 Ай бұрын
Any of those options would work! I tend to go with the legs because they're already on there, but yeah a lollipop would work just fine or a menace arm junior receiver would work great too since it has the ring built in. For me it's the speediness and the simplicity of it, so leaving the legs on is a good option provided you're not working in tight spaces with low ceilings. If so, then it's better to go one of the routes you mentioned. Several years ago, when I was just hooking the ratchet to the base of the C Stand, I had it pop off and swing down. Fortunately, no one was underneath, and it was only a small lite mat on it, so it didn't come crashing down with a ton of force. Mostly just freaked me out and made me realize I wasn't being smart. Since then I've been very particular about having a solid mounting point like on an actual menace, sometimes to the annoyance of the guys I work with, haha.
@kimsargenius4112
@kimsargenius4112 2 ай бұрын
I sometimes do this with the legs hanging down go around the leg assembly column between two of the legs with the ratchet strap. Because you’re tying BACK towards the stand base, there’s enough tension that it won’t slip off the legs when they hang down.

Great video! One question about the c-stand boom arm. Looks like you have an ear going into a lollipop mounting to the base stand, but how are you connecting the c-stand? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your video on this.

@@cfl4286 Feel free to just address this in the video if you prefer, but could you support weight with the c-stand fully extended? approx 10ft? Looking at an impact boom and maxes out around 5 feet and is $60. Will either buy that or the c-boom clamp. Thank you again
@cfl4286
@cfl4286 2 ай бұрын
@@ericdargan yes, it can go full extension. You would just need to counterweight it properly with a shot bag and ratchet strap, and also make sure not put any light on it that’s heavier than a couple pounds (LIte mat, 60 watt LED, etc.). Any heavier you’ll bend it. Are you talking about an aluminum impact boom? I would steer clear of that. For dedicated boom arms you need steel to safely arm a light out over talent. A Menace arm is the only exception, but is made with Schedule 40 speedrail w/ a menace arm hardware, and is supported by ratchet straps to keep it from bending. Also, for any boom you need a combo stand for the base. Definitely not something you want to do off of a C Stand or Baby Stand. Hope this helps!
