How far into your sets were you? Sounds like you were struggling. Maybe string gauge is a little in the heavy side.
@JarredGarneauMusic6 күн бұрын
I was probably close to two hours in at this point. I use a set of 11's, which is deff a little heavy, but I like having that for slide. Gonna hit the wood shed with some of these licks this week and see if that helps at all! I've been playing with 11's forever so I think I might have just been pushing it a little bit

Awesome man. What string gauge are you using and what is your action set to?
@JarredGarneauMusic3 ай бұрын
Either a set of DR pure blues 10’s with an 11 and 14 on the 1st and 2nd string or a set of 11’s! Action would be 0.055 ml on the low side and 0.045 on the high side. Action is on the relatively low side

I’m wondering if anyone can help me. If the action is too low on my guitar does it affect the slide sound? I’m trying to use vibrato with the slide on certain notes like it shows with the video but I just don’t seem to be getting that sound (like in the video) Any suggestions and tips are most welcome! Thank you in advance!
@JarredGarneauMusic5 ай бұрын
You can have your action too low, but in my experience it doesn’t need to be really higher than normal. It probably is either your touch is too heavy, or the type of slide is too heavy (like brass or chrome) if you’d want to book a lesson to talk about it further you can book a lesson at calendly.com/jarredgarneau/one-hour-private-zoom-lesson

I'm actually trying to learn this in standard. Your use of intervals to describe what's going on is fantastic. Besides the fact that it means I can move the notes to the correct position on my guitar, it provides a way better understanding of what Derek is actually doing (e.g., a similar lick an octave up the neck). Thanks!
@JarredGarneauMusic5 ай бұрын
That’s awesome! No reason why you can’t learn in standard. And I’m glad you dig the intervals, it really does give you a better break down of what he’s doing and gives you the ability to adapt it to different keys and tunings. Thanks for the comment!
