I was in college when this film came out. After the motion picture came out they said they would never be another film made! The first film was way over budget in the end result was a very long drawn-out special effects film fans were disappointed! Fast forward a few yrs in theater ( to watch a horror flick starring William Shatner) I saw the trailer to this film and the wow Factor kicked in for me and the entire crowd! After seeing the film I said to myself this is Star Trek the way it was meant to be! If you read the history of the production budget and time were tight! Footage from the first film reused in the launching scene. The new SFX produced by ILM and a fantastic music score by the late James Horner ! The result was one of the best trek films made ! Storey content & great performance made the film !

slight issue, the shuttle wouldn't have come from outside, not only that, they use transporters in Spacedock. sorry but the original is better as Enterprise was at a drydock, which is still a space dock. The United Federation of Planets and United Earth had spacedocks that most often took the form of a free-standing, orbital, single-starship-sized "cage". This form of spacedock was virtually synonymous with the word drydock. Generally, these cage designs were used for major construction or refits and could be part of a shipyard. She was still undergoing major works after her trial run in TMP... which were known as the San Francisco shipyards

No rotoscoping and matte painting and color grading and CGI could fix the stupid of spelling "hangar" as "hanger" and seeing absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I always though Kirk and McCoy pissing themselves was dumb. Sulu's the one actually flying the damn ship, and he's clocked a wee few hours at it. He's hardly going to fly the bloody flagship into spacedocks wall and claim "i was just following orders guv🤷🏻‍♂️" no matter what Saavik orders.

Imagine if they stuck to the original version that made it as far as the novelization, Saavik originally was at the helm literally piloting inside Spacedock and Mavericks out the doors, explaining Kirk's near panic

Heh, GREAT fix!! 😀 Tbh, I minded to make my own cut of the film, utilising all the great rendered effects for this movie that people have shared on KZfaq; this would be a GREAT example! Cutting the Scotty scenes where he bangs his head, and the relationship with Uhuru and I think it's actually a great fun romp that is generous to the cast, and audience, but hey - vive la difference! IDIC 😀❤️🖖

Don't forget Mrs, Miller Mrs. Miller - Downtown and Greatest Hits from the United Nations Collection of the World's Worst Music kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jt10q92Ipp_Gh5s.html ++++ Elva Ruby Miller (October 5, 1907 - July 5, 1997), who recorded under the name Mrs. Miller, was an American singer who gained some fame in the 1960s for her series of shrill and off-tempo renditions of popular songs such as "Moon River", "Monday, Monday", "A Lover's Concerto" and "Downtown". An untrained mezzo-soprano, she sang in a heavy, vibrato-laden style; according to Irving Wallace, David Wallechinsky and Amy Wallace in The Book of Lists 2, Miller's voice was compared to the sound of "roaches scurrying across a trash can lid. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Miller

What I love about this scene is Nimoys acting. His cock of the eyebrow as he gets the idea to show off his cadets talent. His wry infinitesimal smile as he knows he’s going to mess with the nerve endings of his two best friends, probably a sly revenge for all the times they used to mess with his emotional state. Kudos and well done

I like the quality of the work, but I think the pacing is a miss especially with the ship is sped up going past the window within star one. Could’ve dated more as the original did, to appreciate the ship. Also, there’s some stutter frames and some of the movement. This clip is marked as fixed, and it makes me wonder if the earlier one was closer to the original timing and pace.

I like a lot of what you done here, especially in concept. Would you mind if I shared a few small observations, from a film-making trekkie for whom this is their favorite movie ever made? It's strictly take it or leave it, I think you have a great grasp on things as they are and none of what I have to say deals with the limitations of the material you had to work with or compositing issues due to the expense of digital modeling etc etc. They are purely stylistic choices. Thanks!

@@NickAcosta-Films excellent. Wonderful attitude to take, my brother. As you bring in more ship noise alongside the soundtrack, try panning the sound so one side is 80% OST & 20% diegetic and the reverse is on the other side (80% diegetic, 20% OST). Watch your axis of action with the ship as it speeds up. Although you're switching the camera position (a necessity from the scope of movement), try to maintain the same axis of action throughout the progression of shots, until you hit the reverse angle at the end as it flies off. It will help the viewer maintain the sense of momentum through the sequence and make it feel more like one fluid movement. Finally, there is a dramatic difference between the camera setup for the shots inside and outside of spacedock. Most likely, changes in iso to handle the lighting differences and the use of an anamorphic lens for the exterior. Both of the changes would affect how light reflects off of the hull of the Enterprise, which is present in both environments. If you could adjust the lustre of the hull during the exterior part of the sequence, so that it better mimics how the hull of the ship would after the settings have changed, it would help to blend the ship in with its surroundings so that it looks like the Starfleet Craft seen there, and ultimately make it feel more organic to the shot. That's all I have for you. I hope that I was able to provide something of use in your endeavor here. Just remember: No matter what you end up producing with the material that is the legacy of the original Trek, there is literally no way it could ever be any worse than what Kurtzman and Goldman have done. =)
