I suspect his father had a lot to do with it. Raise them right dads. Some things are more important than a win or loss.

Having been a youth sports coach, I can say from experience that most kids display good sportsmanship. Unfortunately, it is the parents that cause the problems.
@McLovin1759Ай бұрын
Yep. Absolute class act. He could teach parents how to demonstrate sportsmanship. What I think I like best is that it happened right after a tough loss. Kind of like “f-k… oh well… hey Umpie, good game” This kid will be alright in life.

Indeed a classy move unlike the team that won and acted like they hadnt won a game since they were 8 years old.

The other team had comeback to advance to the Tournament Championship game. They are just kids 14U. I don’t have a problem with that. It was a good game, we were up 3 and should have sealed the deal but it happens. No ill will.

@@MrFazzino Yeah, if it's a championship game, celebrate away, and all the more respect to the catcher. That makes the loss that much harder and the class shown that much more.

I'm confused on who won the game. Was it USPR or USPR?
@MrFazzinoАй бұрын
It was def USA Prime who won: Navy beat Oilers in this one…. Awaiting the rematch! That’s what happens when big box baseball buys up all the smaller teams/organizations!

That was a good move, no doubt. The cynic in me thinks he has to catch again with the same ump in 2 days. 😎

That was the final game of that tournament for our team with that loss. Never saw the umpire prior to the day before this video and the day of. We return to that venue in a few weeks, who knows if we will see him again.

That catcher is a class act! True sportsmanship and he also shook hands with the umpire! A good guy! 👍

Nobody has commented on the catcher moving the bat that the guy would have slid into.
@MrFazzinoАй бұрын
Smart catcher for moving the bat so it didn’t interfere with his play on the ball for a possible play at the plate. Had a situation earlier in the year with the opposing catcher not clearing the bat, incoming throw hit bat.
@scottfaulk9081Ай бұрын
That’s a smart play to move the bat - for everyone’s safety and possible interference on the play. It’s also catching 101 - one of the first things you learn as a catcher b
@mmcgahn5948Ай бұрын
Good to move it…. But bad throwing it onto the field where the ball could hit it or the cut off man could trip on it. Catchers should throw it behind them out of the way.
@bobfarmer2226Ай бұрын
Batters should throw it out of the way. Catchers action is common. Courtesy

I did miss that the bat went forward towards the mound! Good assessment. Slide it back towards backstop.

i thought they changed the rules where your not allowed to slide or run into the catcher????
@MrFazzino2 ай бұрын
This was a clean baseball play. Rules state you must slide or avoid malicious contact. Malicious contact supersedes all other rules in the book. But this was a textbook slide, catcher went up for the ball and came down hard. This is the way game was meant to be played.
@hankdagenais4157Ай бұрын
Per every veteran umpire I've talked to - "A runner that slides low and straight probably hasn't done anything wrong." On a related note, the catcher, classy as he is, was blocking the path of the runner without the ball. No obstruction call correct as 1) the runner was safe anyway, and 2) "no baseball, no call".
@MrFazzinoАй бұрын
@@hankdagenais4157. I agreed with your assessment of obstruction. Throw took him that way into the runners path but I wasn’t referring to any of that or the reason for the post. Just showing the character of the catcher after the play was over. As someone who had umpired for 30 years at all levels, I didn’t think anything of it when a catcher may have come up to me after a game but now I realize the impact that it has and just trying to bring something positive to light in a hard game and especially in this day in age where umpires are only shown in difficult situations.

On this day in 2023, just before Aiden and I (Dad) came into the gym for this game we called Grandpa to wish him a happy birthday. We got his voicemail and left him a message. We planned to call him back after the game. Little did we know at the time, just after Aiden hit this game winning shot, we learn Grandpa passed away earlier in the day on his 79th Birthday.
