As an American there is one thing I don’t understand about fellow outdoorsmen (and women). That is the present obsession with big honking knives 🔪 for outdoor use. I mean I like big knives and I cannot lie, but as a child of the 60s and 70s I learned using Cub Scout and Swiss Army knives. In most cases I don’t need a huge knife to baton to survive. They also weight a lot. I’m older now and have SLE. I don’t like carrying a lot of weight if I don’t have to. I usually carry a 4” knife now. Does all I need. I can even baton in a pinch. If I need something bigger I would carry an axe or packing manual chain saw, and a small neck or bird knife. I really like the eldris and am looking into purchasing one to permanently put in a fire kit as a striker.

I've gotten the three models and i prefer the X7 easy to carry and handle and quite powerful for his size. The X10 is good in winter when you need a lot more firewood, still a portable axe, but demands more muscle to wield It properly.

I think there is room at the bottom of the sheath to lengthen the blade one quarter to 1/3 inch without affecting the closed package length.

I open boxes with my knife without using the blade, by using the tip, and turning the blade around, away from the box. No need to dull the blade when the back of the tip will do the job.

One advantage i didn't foresee but appreciate quite much is that using it in non-remote areas like town/park etc (turns out to be the 95% of my time using a knife) doesn't draw people's attention. Any longer knife, even a Companion, draws sight of people if drawn say in a park, eg. when there are children around etc. On top of that, the little knife does pretty much everything i do even in the forest - cuts, feathersticks, scrapes and even splits small wood into kindling... You don't need to batton it necessarily, but yes You can do the very light battoning to split sticks quite well with it and it doesn't feel weird at all.

10 things the Eldris can do: CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT CUT and CUT. J/k thank you for juxtaposing carving and making holes -- it may have just convinced me this is the carving knife for me!!

They should have made the blade longer. 8-8,5 cm would have been great. Then I would get one. I´d rather carry a good folder for now.

I'm going to be a little silly here. The video was valuable, but it also seemed a little like this. Things the knife can do: 1. Cut things 2. Scrape things 3. Scrape ferro rod 4. Cut things 5. Slice things 6. Cut things 7. Slice things 8. Notch things (cut & pry) 9. Carve (intricate cutting) 10. Drill holes
