Be sure to do an apt update and an apt upgrade then reboot before you do any install, or you won't succeed in installing RadioBerry and Pihpsdr.

Interesting video, thanks! I think CW pitch is a personal thing, our hearing differs. For me 550hz is way too low it does not "pop" from the background noise especially at higher speeds with weak signals. I have been running 700hz for the last 30+ years so anything else feels wrong even to my now aging ears. I have also found that turning the AGC off is fine if you are replying to a station and you can set RF gain and volume to taste but when I am on the calling side of a pileup it is terrible, then the AGC fast option is the way to go with RF gain set just high enough to hear the weaker stations. I enjoyed the video, thanks! 73, Rudi de ZS6DX/ZS2M/ZS1BT/V51VE

With my FTdx3000, I mounted a momentary pushbutton in a small box and connected it to the Tx Req In pin on the rear panel LINEAR plug. In any mode, I can press that button to get a steady carrier and releasing it returns everything to the previous mode/settings. One can select between 10/20/50/100 watts, via Menu #178. I find 10 or 20 watts is more than adequate to dial in my tuner and/or amplifier. I'm sure the very same thing is possible on the FTdx10.

I learned CW back in 1989 to get my A licence and although never used it much since. But one thing is I have never lost how to send it. It has always stayed in my head even being away from the hobby for 20 years. Only issue is my read speed but in time it will return. My situation will change in September and I will finally be able to get back on HF with my IC705. Great video and all the best 73 de G0LQP

On another issue I have always used straight and would like to get a paddle but not a very cheap one. Do you have any recommendations? I do have a very old British 1940s Semiautomatic Eddystone S689 Bug Key that a friend gave me but its is just not for me.

I know this is an old video. I hope I get a reply. But this is exactly what I need. Question. Will these work to just play my acoustic instrument into a PA (Bose speaker) For live performances? I don’t need to record. Just be on stage, lavalier attached to the instrument and play through the speaker? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

The DELIBERATLY MISSING spectrum display "averaging function" is a real disappointment. Other pricier Yaesu's have it. Also the usb wireless mouse incompatibilities issue is beyond belief. I suspect this radio was never intended to "point & click" the spectrum to change frequencies - only push buttons in the setup menus.

I agree, CW is a lot of fun. I found out after getting my ticket back in 2020, I quickly started learning CW and it has been my main mode since then. I immersed myself in it, I first learned the alphabet, I use a app given to me by a CW Academy instructor called CW_Player 30wpm with 1 second between characters and practice everyday for instant character recogition, between that and listening to QSOs everyday when I get a chance at work via a websdr when I'm not at home, making at least 1 to 10 QSOs a night I am getting better and better. My comfortable speed is 19-20wpm now. My first live QSO I just jumped in, it was terrifying yet exhilarating. After that 1st cw I was hooked. My Clublog statistics over the past 3 years is 95+% CW QSOs. I'm also hooked on QRP operation. I've recently built two QRP Labs QCX minis (20m and 40m) and use those to activate POTA and just have fun. Something about building your rig that makes it fun to use. For Data, I have been having fun with JS8Call. 72, 73 de AI5DD I'm also interested in your class!

Hi there. I recently also experimented with my Rode Go mics. I was very impressed how easy and little fuss it was. Will go and import the files into Cubase to see if usable in studio recordings. So far with some EQ and a few tweaks I don’t see why not 😊. Thanks for confirming the good sound you also get, and I agree, you have no reason to apologise for your playing or singing. Keep going. God bless

Great video! Just what I needed. I’m a new CW Op/ham and usually fall in on radio as is. So I adjust to the radio setting out the box. I wish I had an Elmer who can sit next to me whilst setting up my G90. I’m a lone wolf here in an area space of Hams never mind CW operators. I hope to make a QSO with sometime! 72 MM7BFL

With all due respect, you're absolutely wrong dear OM. When i first started in 2017 I spent so much money on what was dubbed a "beginner" setup. It was a Yaesu FT-450D, an LDG automatic atu and power supply (which was overkill for my power restrictions). I got through many different antennas which would tentatively tune. It all cost me well over £1000. Fast forward six years, i got a G90 which does all of the above (with a rudimentary power supply), is far simpler to operate with limited to no technical knowledge, has a waterfall and the ATU can tune a wet noodle. All for less than half the price. It is an ideal radio for beginners. Just because to need to get to know the unit a bit before getting the most out of it you would discredit it for newbies? That could apply to ALL radios. Just read the manual!

I completely disagree, the G90 has only a few settings where as a Icom 7300 or the like has so many adjustments that it will overwhelm most newbies. The G90 has just enough option settings to be useful but not overbearing. Many new ICOM 7300 users have bad audio because they don't know how to adjust the many settings and they don't get the full potential of the radio The G90 is easy for anyone to get the full potential of the radio. Yes it doesn't have audio processing but that can interfere if not adjusted right. The G90 is hard to get out of adjustment because it is so simple. 20 watts is the sweet spot between QRP and a 100 watt radio. 20 watts is only about 1 S unit lower than 100 watts so new operators wont get discouraged with not being heard. In my opinion the G90 is a perfect starter radio and a main radio for budget conscious or portable users. With plenty of accessories, parts, and user support combined with a 1.5 yr warranty you really can't go wrong.

Thanks for the nice and clear explanation! Driving with a Zumo XT 1 at the moment. Nice piece of equipment but miss the routeplanner at the device as with the zumo xt2 Also thinking of going for the xt2 to pair with the sena headset and iPhone for music and calls. The streaming by the tft of the bmw r1250gs is not that great. What is your opinion after using the xt2? Thanks again for your advice. Cheers from the Netherlands. Rob

I realize this video is 2 years old, but regarding the lack of mic jack in the detachable head. A lot of people put the display head on the sun visor and the radio under the seat with the mic cord running up between the seats. That way if you throw the mic under the seat and flip the sun visor up, no one can see any part of the radio from outside the car. The display is right in front of your face if you need to change something and the mic can be hidden quite easily under a newspaper or something if you don't want it under the seat. I like this radio for the same reasons you pointed out: Its simple. That is GOOD while driving. I feel a radio in a car does not need to do packet, digital wiz-bangery or a host of other things.
