Hey i’m the guy that we thought had the catastrophic fail in my meidjo’s at A Basin last weekend. Just wanted to say thanks. All i had to do was tighten the springs as they became totally unthreaded. i realized it when i tried to tighten the din on the good one by turning clockwise and realized it is a counter clockwise turn to tighten. Hit them with silicone and VC3 and they’re skiing incredible. 100% best binding ever

Thanks for the input. You're right on w/profile. Not only tip rocker, but the tail on the 2 Wayback's differ in their rocker amount, making the running length greater in the 96 and less in the 106. This is why you're feeling like you should've swapped the lengths. I'm debating between an OutlawX or some other binding that tours for my Soul7 HD at 180cm. The Meidjo is on the short list...

Think id be too heavy for the meidjos? Im 210-220.... lookin into switching to ntn from 75mm because my boots broke. Just cant decide if i go meidjos or outlaws.... i dont tour at all just resort... for now

For toe Box icing we on the ice coast (aka PA and north put a little piece of encolite pad aka high density foam) in that area and it seems to eliminate that issue.

Thanks for making this video. Really frustrating to see him get tons of views and money by putting out bad information. There is a lot wrong with his video but I felt like his overall conclusion was you are better off with either a plastic bag or a loose knit sweater. That missed the whole point of staying dry while being active. Gore Tex has been a game changer for my outdoor activities.

Great video, and I agree that range of motion is king in any touring boot. I learned to telemark in 2001 because it was easier than finding AT gear for accessing N. American backcountry. In the 2000’s the touring mode tele bindings got me further. Because it was fun, I spent many years skinning every weekend in front range Colorado & Wasatch ranges in Scarpa T2X’s, & Garmont SynerG’s….while shopping for a new pair of tele boots in 2012, NTN was really heavy and frankly junk. I happened onto bargain AT boots and the old tele setup collected dust. Despite the durability issues of braking several AT boot ski mode latches, my lumbar spine and knees were happier with a more natural gait and less weight. 14 years later, I’m excited to discover tele bindings with tech toe touring options….but where is the touring boot cuff angle to utilize tech toes? Also, under-discussed in tele boots is ski mode cuff angle. I’ll never forget the day I discovered a second ski mode position in my T2X’s or SynerG tele boots (lock pushing knee forward vs backward gave two different cuff angles in ski mode). Despite the obvious free-heel feeling, the technical part I miss most about my mid-00’s telemark touring setup is the right to refuse removal of my skis. With touring mode cable bindings and tip stretch skins, a skier could leave skis attached through most any touring transition-which also helped keep fingers warm, pants dry, mind relaxed, etc. I had a goo flow with waist wrapping the jacket on the up, then stuffing skins into the jacket, and re-buckling pack waist strap on the down. Now I live in the southeast, considering, patrolling again, and shopping for a tele resort kit….ohh glory days!

I have Meidjos and so far I really like them. Want to give Pierre props for engineering them. Releasability is very important to me. I spent many years on Voile releasables but they were 75 mm and have been discontinued. This is NTN and a much better setup. I can't speak to any durability issues but will post if I have any problems. All my friends went to AT gear. I refused to give up the tele. I mainly parallel, but I just love throwing in teles as conditions dictate. To me that's ultimate freedom in the mountains. Thanks for creating this channel.

I just broke ANOTHER tech toe pin on my Meidjo bindings today in easy moguls. I'm 71, 160 pounds on Tx Pros. I've broken one side on each of a pair of 3.0's and also 1 tech fitting on a 2.1. I've also broken a flextor, 2 black springs, one spring on a ski brake and 2 base plates where the "U" shaped bar attaches. I love the way these ski, but I just can't trust them any more. I think it's time for me to try the Lynx.

Looks like you have a broken instep buckle loop? I have had that happen a lot with my TX Comps. I now ski with Outlaws for resort. Gone to AT for touring until this new (?) Scarpa TX boot arrives. Though I have Freedoms on an older pair of DPS Wailers for the powder days.

A Scarpa mid cable failure?? Inconceivable!! Hopefully they will change that design. I'm a Lynx guy but looking to get a pair of Meidjo's to try out. Thanks for this informative video. Cheers.

Great explanation about why we pay more for Goretex. Keep up the good work Amerotrash! I just got a pair of K2 Mindbender 108ti 179cm with my first set of alpine bindings since 2006. Been riding alpine touring bindings for almost 20 years. Spent all my $$ on hardware so my 12 year old non Goretex Patagonia shell that doesn't work too well, is gonna have to last 1 more season. Stoke level rising!

I practise télé for more 27years and never have heared this argument, which is very simple and true : spring resistance make the difference with cross-country skiing. More resistance is more control. Thanks for it !😅

Yeah man! Thanks for the content. Love the meidjo - except the brakes and the random hook up at the absolute wrong time and the boot jack that I haven’t quite been able to completely solve. Brakes are long gone. I have the 3.0s mounted to my daily (ripsticks 106) and have one set of 2.1s I switch thru the remaining quiver via pre-set bolt threads. “Douche-baggerie!!!” Lmao!

YES YES YES! Can’t agree enough man. There are way more important skills in the backcountry than hyper focusing about slaying huge lines and exposing yourself to avy terrain. I got into backcountry skiing because I love to tele and because my dog needs exercise. Not to pump my ego and brag about the amount of vert I crushed over the weekend. My dog doesn’t give a shit how steep the terrain is. Non telemarkers don’t seem to get it IMO. Their methods of sliding on snow get more fun with steeper terrain, and they can’t fathom considering low angle terrain worthwhile. Plus they’re judgemental as fuck sometimes about not having an avy stick up your a** when you’re on 20 degree slopes. If I want to be uncomfortable, I go to the resort. Like the channel keep it up!

1:42 hmmm… well, I know there’s some disagreement over this one but… I feel the pivot point for the tour mode on the BD 01 binding is perfect. And they ski downhill really well, with the activity and feel of older 75s with the lateral edge control of NTN/alpine. Makes sense, since they were right on the cusp. Beefy, but not too heavy for longer tours. I have them mounted on Fischer S-bound 112, which is a Nordic ski. Double camber/fish scales, but with downhill sidecut (112-78-95). I mounted them on the balance points for each ski respectively, not the boot center or chord center. As such, the bindings are offset almost a full centimeter. Don’t feel it at all while skiing, and I think that’s why the pivot point feels so perfect to me. It was an oddball choice, but no regrets! It only seems odd when you look at them against the wall and see that one binding is closer to the Fischer logo. I know it’s a bit off topic, since you only cover NTN stuff, but there you have it…

Scarpa been talkin’ for five years… much as I like their boots, it’s time to shit or get off the pot. There have been versions of the comp with tech insets up front. Not sure if they were a prototype or what, but Weston D had a pair on him when I did my AIARE 1 course with him 3 years ago. He was skiing them with Lynxes (which I love, but I haven’t tried the meidjo yet…) Also… Eliminator tongue shims (from Masterfit) might be a good $30 substitute for investing $200 in replacement liners. They were an absolute game changer for me. And as a recent(ish) convert from alpine, I never quite got the hang of the wrap liners. Habituation. Cheers!
