I think Roy and Buck Owens get downgraded a bit for Hee Haw. I don't know why, I loved the show and one of the 4 CDs I still own is the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet. Still as much as it was great music by a lot of great musicians I think it was looked upon as silly, sexist hillbilly comedy and as such it was below what a true musician should sink to. Kind of like how the really good songs by Billy Ray Cyrus get overlooked because of his one campy hit.

I relate to this song, I never picked cotton either, I neverdid hot tar roofing, didnt last a day in a plating factory. In my youth I was an outlaw. All of my twenties I was a bouncer in many bars and clubs. If I had not accidentally fell into driving a taxi I would still be doing time. Drove a hack for 30 years, now I dispatch. I watched my mother and father both die young working in factories, but I didnt.

Some people would have us spend our treasures and the blood of our youth in foreign wars. We must not be swayed by these warmongerers, and will instead live by a simple maxim: America first - everyone else second.

Thank you for posting 'I Never Picked Cotton' by Roy Clark. He was a wonderful singer, performer and downright swell guy. He sang some songs I'm including on my all time favorite songs that I'm getting put on CDs.
