So what do you do once your child is diagnosed with apd. Treatment is out of reach living in a smaller town.

Thank you for the input. I just don't onow how to implement it when zhe child that would need my attention, help with emotional regulatiom, boredom and clashing with society's norms competes with my fulltime job that keeps zhe family housed and fed and the other child's "normal needs" and my need to sleep or eat or have a consistent thought for a minute or just telax for 15 minutes. All other family members and three institutions for daycare have thrown the towel bc my child is "too needy" and stresses them out too much. So, it's all on one set of shoulders. Going to a restaurant and having to entertain my special child all the time while still giving the other child enough attention so he doesn't feel.left out and also regulating the father's emotions bc he's much easier stressed out and needs being calmed down also is such a grim outlook that I refuse to go to a restaurant as a family. Your ideas work for moms who can refill their tanks once in a while also, so no fulltime job or help with the kids or the household so mummy has the energy to come up with interesting or soothing games to help the special child. But for moms.like me we can only avoid the meltdowns by depriving ourselves of sleep and hiding our special kid from the world. We go on playgrounds at night, so my child doesn't get overloaded with kids noises. We buy groceries online bc our child can't endure a aupermarket situation and we can't find a family member who would either get the groceries for us or watch the child while we do it. I haven't been to a doctor or dentist for several years for myself bc all the free time my job allows is fot appointments for the kids. We've gone through dozens of babysitters who never came back bc they found more manageable kids than mine. So, it's me and only me and there're just 24 hours in my day every day.

I suspect that my family has adhd & both my children and I have trouble sleeping. Both stopped napping at 2. I can never get work done because they’re up just as late as I am.

That was useful to hear. I’m seeing a psychiatrist at the moment and he’s diagnosed me with bipolar however I feel I may have adhd too. I’m seeing him tomorrow so I’m hoping he will hear me out and come up with a plan to help me

I have known I have had ADHD since I heard of it but certainly things haver changed dramatically. In the last 7 years my moods have become so disregulated, it doesn't just feel like ADHD anymore. My other symptoms are pretty much the same as they have always been but the deregulation is off the scale. I'm starting to wonder if I have late onset bipolar. It's so hard to separate the ADHD, autism and how I feel in myself. This is so helpful

Very interesting to hear this, thank you. As a mother of a late teen who is very disorganised and has terrible intrusive thoughts, she was first treated for OCD for 2 years. When the OCD symptoms lessened, she then had very strong ADHD behaviours showing. Apparently the latest research is showing that OCD, depression and anxiety can be CAUSED by the child trying to cope and control their ADHD.

I got diagnosed with OCD and ADHD right before I left for my second year of college and it finally made sense. My parents never understood my need for paper plates and plastic utensils; or when I would throw a fit when one of my sisters would steal the outfit I had laid out the night before and I felt like my whole day was ruined because I planned on wearing those clothes and it’s no longer in my control.

It took me 17 years to get the diagnosis of Bipolar 2. Now, its noted that I exhibit symptoms of adhd inattentive, but I cannot take stimulants as it triggers a manic state. x.x Problem is i also have sleep apnea so it is hard to deduce what is really wrong when i cannot correct the other ongoing issues. But i had the same psychiatrist for 6 years and he was able to see the fluctuations and cyclical behaviors associated with Bipolar 2.

I discovered that i stopped waking up from snoring after i changed my diet. i stopped eating grains because of stomach cramps and way to much gas, then i quit eating dairy - I became more and more sick of drinking milk over time, but figured i could eat cheese and such. so i did. i had huge migraine episodes, skin rashes, pimples, puffy face and much miore subtle things, but lots of them. well, i also quit eating dairy, and for good measure, i stopped using seed oils like canola and rapeseed oil. its been 3 months since i became ultra strict about it, and, like I said, I quit snoring. also, without having any training at all, I began to breath effortless through the nose when using the staircase, or when i am jogging. I went by bike everywhere for two years, but what really boosts my breathing is nutrition! imagine, its crazy. try quitting grains (rice included), its the most common irritant, nutrition wise. a 3 week test phase is enough, the effects will show themselves pretty quick.

I wish there were more specialized doctors like her because our 5 year old has needlessly struggled because of misdiagnoses. Her speech delay was being treated without improvement and we knew it was more going on but they wouldn't test...it took us to move to another state to finally get a solid treatment plan. she is a different kid now - the melt downs and frustrations are so few now. She is actually learning now.

I always had tantrums at school, i hated every minute of it, i had a very traumatic childhood growing up, alot of abuse, struggled making connections with people, always had anxiety, alot of fear, struggled in relationships, my family connections, i hate bright lights, always feeling frustrated and angry, i do alot of repeatative stuff like playing the same game for hours but just standing there looking at the screen and pressing a single button and watching my character just spin around rather than playing it, ive struggled with sleep, cant stay focused for very long get bored fast, ive only learnt about autism and adhd recently but spd is completely new to me and im now asking myself do i have this condition, i have alot of hobbies but cant seem to stick to them for long periods of time, i use to have alot of dizzy spells and falls ive hurt people when ive never ment to hurt them and always hate myself after and want to take revenge on myself for making them suffer, im always crying when things get to much for me, ive self harmed, been close to suicide also a few times, I was also stabbed in my head and punched as a child which caused me to become slightly deaf, my head feels so overwhelmed at times i wish i had a switch to turn my brain off its bothering me just talking about it here but i really need help and i wouldnt reach out but im desperate to know whats wrong with me, im a 45 yr old man and i need to get to the bottom of this because, i hate living with this rage inside me, i dont like fighting but when people yell at me i just flip, im always moody and only happy when im alone doing what i like doing in my own safe and secure space

I'm sorry, but I haven't heard of this as a Disorder: I know of Sensory Processing Sensitivity; Sensory Processing Sensitivity; HSPs, i.e., those with this innate characteristic found among 15-20% of humans and most mammal animal species. This trait of heightened sensitivity to varied signals received seemingly intuitively waa 1st brought to light by Elain Aaron. It brings gifts and challenges, but to my knowledge is not a Disorder. In fact, in life's early days, it helped numerous communities survive, with alertness to nature, wildlife, or tribal dangers. Pls, what source is now referencing this as a Disorder? (as loved or hated it may be, who's termed it a Disorder?

It’s no always an ability in the wild either. If you live in a primitive environment and the symptoms are disruptive, it become a disability.

I have 4 kids with SPD. I was just told their brains are different from other kids their ages. I'm not sure when it actually became a disorder but for young kids it can be a huge issue when their brains are still developing. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My daughter had a seziure and it damaged her hearing receptors. She heard things 10 times louder 2 years after that seziure. That was definitely not normal. I can see why it's now a disorder.

Damn the morality and thinking people going to think I am gay or crazy thoughts are what I been having lately and it’s been making me insane! I have had moderate to high OCD, Anxiety, PTSD and Depression and in my 40’s now I have absolutely no energy, clumsy, very shaky but always running in my chair non stop! I hear people talking in code about me and paranoid. I think I lost my mind and can’t even get mental health fast enough. I go to see a mental health doctor finally in 4 days and not sure if they are going to put me in a funny farm or can even help all the issues I have and it all has come to a head 2+ years ago when my wife of last 20 years passed away unexpectedly and both parents passed away. I have had these symptoms since I can remember but it has become debilitating and I just quit my job and started living in my car out of paranoia and anxiety issues and I loved my job :(. I pray I can get medication to at least help me somewhat or I truly believe I am going to unlive myself with the stress and depression this has caused me and the thoughts of doing such a thing truly seem to be more of a hope then a possible bad decision 😢 I can’t imagine the amount of conflicting medications I would even require for my collection of problems 🤦
