That's crazy even the Micheal Fassbender scenc was cgi and I couldn't even tell. My father MY he rest in peace always loved CGI and I do as well. I think this fake narrative that " we don't use cgi like it's somehow its bad is very disrespectful for the people who work hard on it.

Obviously, they mean "Never Omitted CGI" When they mean the scenes have no cgi.

In fairness the jets are really easy to get because theres literally no way possible the studio would have got a F14 or a Su57 for filming, let alone flying example of either.

They aren't doing anyone any favors by lying about the practical effects. People might not be able to catch the differences, but they will eventually start knowing what it feels like to be lied to.

I'm a nolan fan! But I'll rightly accuse him of this shitty trend! What he did is phenomenal not going to deny that! But he shouldn't have emphasized only real only real, while most of the oscars won for his films are for best vfx category.

I demand practical effects, just not exclusively. Having an actual set and a decent puppet on set does *a lot* to help the actors sell the story. But using computers to expand sets, remove rigs, fill in backgrounds, if it's done well even puppet replacements are all valuable tools you'd be stupid to reject.

The actors are the worst people to ask. They film their scenes and bugger off while the film gets edited and VFX is applied.

Great video series. I had no idea that many tricks were used even in the XX century. Most of them definitely are transparent. But when you see really obvious CGI in a modern movie, it's very off-putting. If they can fool me into believing it's real, I'm all for it.

There are so many movies and tv shows where you can immediately spot CGI and green screens. If they can fool me into thinking it looks real, then they did their job right. Fast & Furious movies definitely don't look realistic. And it's not just the look of the CGI, but the entire concept of most scenes. There's a significant difference between Tom Cruise jumping off a cliff on a bike and opening a parachute, and Vin Diesel driving down a dam with fire from an explosion chasing him. It's impossible to make that look real.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You've managed to blast some rationality into an irrational argument. Personally, I have no issue with CGI at all ... except obvious CGI, and only because that takes you out of the immersion of the moment.

Thank you for these videos. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to see Top Gun Maverick the same. Not because they used CGI, but because they lied about it. That disgusts me. This series has been very educational, and helped me value the work VFX artists do even more.

I would say in most those samples I could recognize them as CGI, that being said, there is a large gap between being able to spot CGI trying to look for it and it being distracting.

The Issue was that Hollywood used CGI as a crutch. Years of over used and bad looking effects. Ruined the reputation of CGI. The Issue is not that CGI is bad and that practical is good. The issue is that there needs to be a balance between the two.

This series was so interesting, educational and amazing. I learned so much. I just finished rewatching Bridgerton and while most of it one would think it doesn’t use VFX, I spotted some compositing in one of the simplest scenes in the show! Wild how it really pops out when your brain is trained and know what you are looking for.

Same thing happens with video-game graphics nowadays, everything is presented and marketed with a bunch of keywords and phrases like "8K textures!", "Made in unreal engine!", "He has millions of polygons!" but like, that literally does not matter at all if the art direction and consistency is not there. The same reason as why some old CGI holds up apply to games, and let me tell you... its not about any amout of resolution nor 'realism'...there are SO MANY posts and videos of 3D artists presenting their projects with HUGE watermarks of graphical engines and 3D softwares all over the place for no reason but the name, cause people who dont know better will see that and "Wow! That's why it looks so good!"

In my opinion, if you are using computer digital enhancement compositing packages, you are still using CGI. I teach Maya, Nuke, Zbrush, Photoshop, After Effects, Rhino and on and on. I teach them all under the CG Art Department and don't even consider them as anything but all digital effects packages. So it's a yes, Oppenheimer used CGI in my opinion. Shrug Oh no, how dare I say that! Not the holy grail of 'there was no CGI on this film'!

Being a CG art instructor for 20+ years, this is my fave content I think I've ever come across on youtube. Thank the maker. It gets so tiring reading online how CGI is destroying the world from people who are completely clueless on how these films and shows are constructed.

The issue is when CG is done perfectly it's seamless and unnoticeable. And therefore cannot get credit for being AWESOME. Therefore, the only CG that gets discussed is bad CG which makes it feel that all CG must then be horrible. When it's actually the exact opposite.

I think the best filmmaking is when you use CGI and practical effects as a tool in combination with many aspects. From Miniatures and stop motion to claymation and practical in camera visual effects to CGI and AI and practical effects. They all work best when used to accent each other to tell an amazing story. Here's the thing. There's bad practical effects that look horrible just like bad CGI. When you see the good CGI and visual effects? It's art of the highest quality
@theshape3988
@theshape3988 9 күн бұрын
I love practical effects the best however CGI is amazing when used properly. It's a tool just like practical tools. The trick is to blend them to look amazing. CGI when use modestly is perfect but when it's over done and poorly done it ruins the illusion. When it's over used and done right? It's a beautiful thing

It started with Practical effects. Then visual effects then CGI. Now A.I. is starting to take hold. Never take the human out of the equation bc when we lose the human element we lose the very thing that makes us "feel" the film.
