You’re a prodigy, I’ve thought that from the day I met you. This was crisp, pristine, excellent and so many other adjectives. My new favorite trio!

Let’s do a livestream on my channel. You have chops. You have a sense of rhythm. You have a good ear. A few hours of quality practice will clear up 90% of those tentative passages.

I could get your performance close to Hamelin’s. It’s all a matter of proper practice. You’d be astounded.

The piano is out of tune and the feedback of mistuning is affecting the continuity of your performance. You know the piece and you seem to have the athletic ability to bring Alkan forward. Bring the instrument into compliance and then we will see if you have the emotional discipline to be an Alkanist.

Maybe the real out of tune was the friends we made along the way:)

God I hate this piece. I’ve never been a fan of its sound, and the difficulty is so discouraging too. I think your tempo actually makes it sound prettier! That being said, I can’t believeeee how difficult it appears even at this tempo 😭 Thank you for this video!

I’m glad you appreciated it! Yeah it’s brutally hard, I honestly cringe at these old recordings nowadays, but hey it’s a part of my personal history or whatever. Im a huge fan of your channel btw!

still wish alkan had the exposure of someone like liszt or chopin. as simple his stuff can musically be, they almost always go hard like this piece

It is great to see young pianists taking up Alkan as a part of the repertoire, and no longer as just a curiosity item, or as a gesture of radical non-conformity.

The prelude is not very clean. If you can't play it clean at that speed, you should play it slower. Refraining from playing pieces slowly before gradually increasing speed is a very dangerous practice that could lead to the development of injuries.

Why do you alternate between the thumb and the second finger during the tutti section (for the repeated Do/C on the left hand), the section after the opening measure 13? I have just begun studying this piece (well only the third movement 😅 because I am a simple amateur). My teacher says I should use only repeated thumb movement but I can see clearly that you are using the marked fingerings with using alternating fingers. It's not that I don't trust my teacher : she never learned this piece and she might be not aware of certain technical difficulties that could appear when playing concert speed. So I am curious to know if you had any thoughts to share on the matter!

I think it would have been better if you played a much shorter, much faster version with cleaner interlocking chords and octaves.
