I honestly don't have anything against the character of Boruto, but since we didn't get to see much of the relationships of Naruto after shippuden, combined with the fact the we don't get to see the old cast as much in the show, My feeling for wanting more of Naruto isn't gratified; when I finished Naruto shippuden I wanted to see more of Naruto and Hinata, I wanted to see more of Iruka sensei and the others. Overall, I think people would have felt more satisfied if we got a backstory of Boruto before we actually got to see Boruto as a story on its own. the reason Naruto shippuden was as successful was because it was a direct continuation of Naruto.

This show may have helped me find out if I'm demiromantic. Because I have never fallen in love with anybody but I want it so bad, and I feel lonely because I'm not... there have been times where I pretended to have a crush because i thought that was how it worked. I won't label myself demiromantic until I figure it out for sure, but I'm trying my best!

naruto’s entire experience with kakuzu exemplifies how fighting blindly without even trying to look into your opponent’s heart only winds up with a shallow victory that causes pain to the victor as well; naruto’s loss of confidence in his ideology is on blatant display as he effectively pursues destructive power regardless of consequence during the arc

Alluka was never implied to have been anything other than a girl from birth. Nanika the entity that shared her body made her be rejected as something not human by her family who thought of her as a thing to be locked up. I always took this as more humanity of people who aren't neurotypical than any allegory for being trans. Also you forgot about Kite.
@MathWizHQ
@MathWizHQ 15 күн бұрын
Alluka is literally referred to as one of the sons of the Zoldyck Family, but while the family who does so treats Nanika, and by extension, Alluka, as a thing to be locked away, Killua does the opposite, treating Alluka as both a person and his younger sister. The neurodivergent reading is an interesting one, but the conflict of gender is pretty heavily implied in the story itself. I might not have explained it well in the video itself though, I just linked to someone else's video where they explained it better lol

"Sure I'll be Ranma, but at least I'll actually get to be me" :') Really excellent video! I loved hearing your perspective on such *gender* series. I don't remember how or where, but I remember catching an episode of two on tv while channel surfing and I found the antics fun and goofy! To this day I really love the series' design and general aesthetic, some of those outfits are just killer! However, I only caught a couple of episodes because my mother walked into the room and saw her young son was watching "filth". Whether people or not people want to accept it, Ranma is inherently a transgressive piece of work (pun intended). Like all other art, in it's existence and effort to share some sort of idea, it lives in the realm of the political. Even if the intention of the work was to be strictly feminist in nature, i.e. showing that female Ranma is just as capable as male Ranma, the exploration of gender is radical! I can't help but view this series and the broader themes it plays with in a social logical lens. Two things come to mind, first being "Onnagata". Onnagata were actors that played female kabuki roles so intensely they would "live as women". As far as I know, and can tell, that is the primeval origins of a broadly accepted form of trans identity in Japan. That's why the idea of a man becoming a woman, even in body, is a much more common and accepted idea. So say for us in the "west", that idea still plays as extremely transgressive. The second idea that comes to mind is Japan's Bill 156, "Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance Regarding the Healthy Development of Youths", which has been hitting queer (specifically BL) manga hard. The Bill seeks to aid the development of the Japanese youth by keeping them away from media that can hurt their growth, just so happens that content tends to be queer. That content is then given their highest possible age rating and they must be sold in special sections of store than basically sell only sexually explicit materials. Yet, Ranma seemingly has escaped the purview of the Bill's wrath. It will be interesting to see how and what happens to the series with it's new found popularity. It's sad to think about how a series from the 80s may be too progressive for the modern age. By the way, I got that Onnagata info from a free thesis paper called "LESBIANS AND TRANSGENDERS IN JAPANESE MEDIA" by Regina Caldart. I gave it a quick read and I'm sure you'd enjoy it! Once again amazing video, don't listen to people that are putting you down, you're awesome! I always learn something new when I watch your stuff lol.

Kaguya was written as a physical manifestation of the cycle of hatred within the Shinobi system. As much as people wanna deny that, it was because Madara was too powerful or so they could write Boruto. The reality is her purpose in the story was to serve as the most pure representation of everything wrong in the Shinobi world. She is effectively just the living form of conflict itself.

I'll defend the Kakuzu fight as written that way out of necessity. Naruto needed to defeat an enemy like Sasuke had, to walk in Sasuke's shoes. I would argue the lack of nuance we get to Kakuzu is because Naruto never bothers to look at him as more than an obstacle.

Ranma ½ was the first anime I discovered on the Internet. Back when 4kids was chopping up One Piece like a 2$ steak, I had a feeling that there were episodes I was missing. And when I went looking, I found the English subtitled version of One Piece, but also Ranma. And while I'm not trans myself, it really helped me start defining what "masculinity" means to me, in a world that is otherwise full of toxic male role-models.

I do like this video but I have to say that I'm not sure what's so confusing about the Level E fan translation at 10:31? It's obvious that it's the POV of a trans man talking about his past loves, and not lesbian erasure... A pretty common trans narrative to be sure. That aside, I really appreciate having some more context for the YYH scene, as Yusuke is one of my favorite characters of all time and as a trans guy it was always kind of cringy to go through that scene. (Me going from "Yusuke is transphobic u_u" to "Yusuke is a transmedicalist?!" is not a change of mind I was expecting to have today. Transmedicalism isn't good, but it's slightly better than the transphobia I've thought that scene was about all these years lol)

I've recently been binge-watching Ranma 1/2 and I love it so much. The fact that he is more enduring and stronger in boy mode yet faster and more agile in girl mode is interesting to me too. I hear there is a remake or the like in the works for a new Ranma. I'm eager to see how that one is too. To those in the LGBTQ+, we are all different and meant to be so. Be proud of the fact that you are NOT a carbon copy of anyone. There's no mold for you so be different...you are not alone. The Native American tribes had 5 genders before British settlers: Male, Female, Male Two-Souls (guy that is more like a girl), Female Two-Souls (girl that is more like a guy), and trans. Not all tribes practiced this but I am a Male Two-Souls. I'm a bit of both. This isn't a new thing.

I love your POV on Ranma. ❤ - - I’ll tell you my head canon about Ranma (which is probably super different from what Rumiko intended lol). rewatching for the 3rd time now and I have this vibe that Ranma is more his true self when in girl form than when in his original body. He’s able to have ice cream and desserts he doesn’t allow himself to have as a boy, or go ice skating. I think at first he’s in a denial what doesn’t allow him to accept his female form, and it comes from the hyper masculine views his dad ingrained on him. When he starts letting lose from that as a girl he seems to enjoy being in that form. So I think maybe he’s at least gender fluid though in the late 80s/early 90s when this manga was written that wouldn’t have been explored as meaningfully as it would be now (though still today it’s taboo in Japan).

Very insightful video. Thank you for making this, it has made me come to a conclusion of where my stand-point on romance is. I've never dated anyone except for the occasional 'crushes' that i force upon myself to fit in with people. Though i do find people physically attractive but attraction wise- not so much. I don't yearn for love nor will I ever seek it. I find that the people whom i already have by my side (friends, family, etc.) have a way higher ranking in my life than a romantic partner. Though, I do still enjoy romantic and fluffy shows such as Bloom into you, Cherry magic, and The summer you were there, I've never really desired to feel the same way. One could even say that I relate to Maki more than i relate to Yuu but who knows, aromantic is a spectrum and not everyone's experiences are the same.

This is off topic, but why does words like Homophobia means to hate gay people but the suffix, "Phobia" means to fear something or someone? I never understood that.
@jehs2664
@jehs2664 29 күн бұрын
The word phobia has various meanings and synonyms. It can mean "fear", "hate", "rejection". For example, oil is hydrophobic but that does not mean that the oil is afraid of water, it means that the oil rejects water and therefore they do not mix.

Just FYI, that one episode according to the writer is about the actual spirit of the original drowned girl taking overly temporarily while Ranma is comatose. (There’s another episode where one of the cursed girls acts like an animal for a bit after getting hit in the head). So your right to call them a her, it’s just not Ranma, it’s basically a ghost using…well actually that is her body so she didn’t really steal it
