Using the melody, I try to determine the most vanilla (diatonic, if possible) changes; then, view the common/fancier chords as substitutes/connecting chords. Doesn't always work, but melody is my guide. Great video.

Is there a way to overlay a melody and set chords to that melody?
@mDecksMusic6 күн бұрын
No. We did not include melodies to avoid copyright issues.
@chadguendelsberger21936 күн бұрын
@@mDecksMusic I can appreciate the copyright component, for sure, but can users build their own licks or melodic lines? I think of cool stuff all the time, then I think, man… I wonder what I could play that over

Damm son, that was so cool! Is there a key signature to this ? The background track really made it happen! I thought I was watching a movie about Vikings and stuff!! Love it!
@mDecksMusic6 күн бұрын
There tonal center changes constantly so it’s better not to use a key signature
@deaconblues39647 күн бұрын
Really nice. To me it's more than a theme. It's an original song... almost like an Etude. I am sure it can be developed even further!
@mDecksMusic6 күн бұрын
Yes! These ideas are open for development. We just wanted to explain some techniques and thought that applying them in some concrete example would be helpful.

I cannot figure out what the shapes mean in the lower right hand corner. The circle, pentagon, triangle, hexagon, and the shape that looks like a loaf of bread.
@mDecksMusic7 күн бұрын
Inversions. Circle = root position. Triangle (3 sides = 3rd on the bass = 3rd inversion), pentagon (5 sides = 5th on the bass = 2nd inversion) heptagon = 7th = 2nd inversion. loaf of bread = pedal point

what if the accidentals doesn't belong to any leading note of this circle of fifth? the answer is still secondary dominant, I'm so confuse about this
@mDecksMusic12 күн бұрын
Only the V7/IV has an accidental that's not a leading tone. In C major, C7 is the V7/IV and C7 has a Bb which is not the leading tone of F (that's E.) Also there are only 4 secondary dominants left, the V/V, the V/ii, the V/vi and the V/iii. They all have the leading tone of the target show up as an accidental. i.e. in C major the V/V is D7 (F# leading tone to G the V)

This book is spectacular. This review summarized the power of this book. I found answers of a lot of questions. I applied these concepts to a brass and woodwinds section, and sounds worderful. I compare it to a palette of colors. I'm waiting for the 2nd volume. Thank you very much for open my eyes and ears.
