Thank you for the shoutout! 😊 And I really enjoyed hearing your answers to the Wager questions as well, we would be great mutineers together 😂 I just filmed my book club video with Ove, I agree that it’s a very charming book and that we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, so to speak. We never know what people go through, or what their goals are (treats! same!). I’m glad you’re enjoying the poetry as well! On another note, did you get a new mic? The sound is great when it’s good, but I think you could wear it a bit further away from your mouth to avoid the sound peaking, like it’s doing a little bit now. I would hate for anyone to click off your videos because of a mic issue, so I just wanted to share some friendly advice! You might also be able to lower the input volume, that could also help.

The Wager sounds interesting! I read a lot of "garbage" according to booktube. Mysteries of almost any subgenre are my favorites, and they are considered "trash" by some literary/classic book readers. That's how the event got started since Olly of Criminolly (the creator of the event) loves Ed McBain books. He's trying to encourage reading in all forms. Not just the books listed for literary prizes and classics. The label has little to do with the writing quality and enjoyment factor of a book. It's a critic's perception of the value of a book. Hope you find a "trashy" book for August so you can join the rest of us bibliophiles!😊

I loved A Man Called Ove, both the book and the Swedish movie. I haven't seen the American version yet, but I don't think it will be a good as the original, even with Tom Hanks. I stayed up until 1 this morning to finish Beartown, and now I can't wait to read the next two in the series. I guess I'm becoming a Frederick Backman devotee 🙂

Hi! I'm gradually watching your video backlog. J D Robb is one of my favorite mystery authors. Eve Dallas is a smart, independent, kick butt policeman in New York of the future. I love the banter among all the characters! Some sex (not gooey romance) and some violence. Lots of science fictiony stuff. To learn Eve's back story, a new reader should start with Naked In Death and read at least the first 3 in order. Then, reading out of order will not be an issue. I am amazed at the quantity of good books Nora Roberts generates. However, I'm not a fan of any of the ones she writes as Nora Roberts. 🤔 I'm so glad to have discovered your channel!!

Wow! I didn't know that a true story that propelled Morrison to write Beloved. 😮 I agree with the statement that it seems like these excuses feel very much like trying to silence people's voices. Even on the aspect of how "violent" the book is (though I do not really know because I haven't read it), this book feels like for 11th or 12th graders especially those in AP courses. And students at that age should be old enough to analyze the book while not being too affected by the graphicness of the book. That's just my opinion. I'm hoping to read by the same author, Morrison, for August's picks Ellen Made's Bookclub! (Sula)

Have you ever think about also doing a section for spoilers where you warn others about it? I'm actually team spoiler. Hi, Mimi - so glad you took a moment to introduce yourself! Yes, Raina likes to watch me make videos as long as it means she gets treats. She is a very good co-host! I may do a section for spoilers because I know some people don't mind them. Truthfully, I don't really mind them, but it depends on the book. If it's a mystery or a thriller, I wouldn't want to know "who dun it"....but I might not mind knowing that a certain character didn't do it. And it's certainly not too "spoiler-y" to talk about something that happens early on in the story, even if it's quite dramatic - the first few chapters are really just setting up the plot anyway. I am subscribed to your channel as well - keep up the good work!

Yes, I used to live in Florida. The rescue service there flies into the Caribbean Islands several times per year to pick up dogs that won't likely find a home on their particular island, but might be a good fit for someone in the continental US. In the Caribbean, they call the stray dogs "potcakes" because they feed them cakes made from the rice that stuck to the bottom of the pot mixed with any other scraps they might have around. Those little cakes (and the dogs that eat them) are called "potcakes".
@MarilynMayaMendoza
@MarilynMayaMendoza 4 күн бұрын
@@BeyondBooks-wt5il my father was born poor, and his stepfather made him eat pot cakes. My father was given the bottom of the rice that sticks because of the oil that we put in it and in Spanish, it’s called pegao. Translated sticky. The funny part is that became his favorite part of our national dish, rice and beans. So my father was brought up on pot cakes, like your precious for baby. I never liked them because even though they’re pretty tasty, they hurt your teeth. Puerto Rican Spanish is different than Castillion Spanish, and we cut the ends of our words and put AO pronounced ow, I hope you find all this mildly interesting🤕 aloha
