This has been an issue with large komatsu machines lately! This emissions bullshit they are enforcing and putting in these machines is really messed up and not efficient at all! Needing constant replacement every few weeks costing tens of thousands of dollars. It's absolutely ridiculous and will end up killing the mining industry in this country! Older machines are becoming mich more valuable and reliable by just having them rebuilt and placed back into service instead of paying 10x that on new equipment!

The 60 series is still my favorite of the large commercial diesel engines available in semi trucks. Surprisingly powerful, dead reliable, excellent power curve, and great sound.

Good day thanks for this video, as always awesome @miningshorts Finally I found out the mass of this rope shovel (4800 XPC). I almost guessed right, the mass turned out to be 1650 metric tons only 118 metric tons heavier than 4100XPC(I thought 1700 was the lower limit of my guess). Even less than I thought. And it’s much lighter than WK 75 which is 1988-2000 metric tons

Wow what a shocker that the EGR system fucked up immediately. Deleting is better for the environment, big diesel engines are supposed to last decades with maintenance. Not with emmissions systems and synthetic piss in a plastic jug

Had one come into our shop. At Empire cat in Mesa. Had to take the cab off to get it in. This was in 2007

It was in fact probably the best diesel engine ever made…I would go as far to say that it likely had a slight role in the discontinuation of Cat’s on road engine line…Detroit took huge market share from both Cat and Cummins!…you could pull 500hp out of the larger 60 series engine without it even breaking a sweat!..Armour trucking company for years was a Volvo/Detroit company, and they bought a large amount of trucks each year…all Volvo’s and all with 60 series Detroits…in the early 2000’s, Volvo had the bright idea to discontinue offering The Detroit engine option and Armour told Volvo that there will never be another Volvo come in the yard if they can’t have the Detroit engine so Volvo put Detroits in the Armour trucks, but no one else could get the engine as an option…

The mining industry in Nevada is strong and close-knit. I'd try looking on Facebook on the many mining pages. Cat being big in the mines around here, I'd assume they are connected to the industry some how.

I tried to get a job on Indian land.... I'm a welder and pipe liner...they had me fill out a stack of paper to apply... I did most of it and then I asked if I'm going to get hired.... they told me that they only hired native.... I put all the paperwork in the trash.... that's reverse discrimination....

I love the fact CAT said "Fuck it, if we can't make a reliable engine for highway use we won't make one at all." That says a lot about the engineers and the board who actually listened to them.
