What the hell is this technique??!! I didn't learn anything!! Dogs need a YES! Or a NO!! And ESPECIALLY puppies they need to know that biting the flesh is NOT ACCEPTABLE! Directing is not enough!! They never get that signal that biting us is a no and can easily do this again!! Terrible advice and trainer.
@django342218 сағат бұрын
Maybe you didn't learn anything because you came in with a fixed idea of what you think the answer should be. Notice he never said anything about not letting a dog know they shouldn't bite. He's not talking about discipline in this short, he's specifically talking about how to direct your dog's energy.

Of course. However, the dog has no say in who they work for - the point is to elevate our ability to lead clearly and effectively.

Very good. Also, I've been told that you can't let the dog win too many times because otherwise they can become possessive of it. I don't know if that's true though
@ihelpdogsАй бұрын
It's not true. If you take things from the dog all the time when the dog is enjoying it, without returning it, then it may become possessive.
@ktkchu7 күн бұрын
letting them win helps them to build confidence as well, which can help them in many ways
@walkerspectre7 күн бұрын
@@ihelpdogs the opposite, actually. If you let them win, they build confidence. Confidence, when too much, become territorial. I have a golden retriever and they exhibit this behavior a lot. If you let them win too many times, next time you try and pick up the toy, they'll growl at you, and I've seen this happen. My dog never did this cause i don't let her win. I win, and after winning i return her toy

Not every dog has a high level of drive to play. If she’s getting heavy just pull back in food a little. My last bulldog was not the biggest player and that worked well for her and what I recommend to clients.

The item in my hand is a monopod for the camera - an insta 360. The camera is designed to crop out the monopod but I also have a small tripod attached which is what is visible. You’ll see in the clips where the camera/tripod is placed on the ground away from us - motorcycle clip (07:07) there is nothing in my hands at that point because the camera/tripod setup is on the ground. The dog was trained solely on a flat collar and leash.

Great video 👌 my dog barks at people we are meeting, any advice? And where are you located? Thank you
@Mtldogtrainerfamilyk9Ай бұрын
It really depends why your dog is barking. Dogs get excited for a variety of reasons. Sometimes happy excitement, sometimes fear or stress and in some instances aggression. It indicates a high emotional state and depending on the dog, history and context how to deal with it will vary. There is no “one size fits all” approach or answer to behavioural issues unfortunately.

Thank you for this. I have a new rescue thats avoiding coming in the dining room because of the lampshade hanging in the middle of the room, so i went and stroked it and showed him that its ok. If you have a tip on how to get him excited for a walk because atm hes avoiding going from the front room to the front door. Once hes at the front door hes fine, but getting him to the front door is a challenge as he just lays down and doesnt want to go. So we almost have to pick him up to get him to the front door, but hes big so this isnt sustainable. Any tips on how we can rememdy this would be greatly appreciated. Apart from this hes really good at everything else in life and is doing so well. ❤

Without knowing the dog or watching the scenario directly, it’s impossible for me to speak with any real specificity. Some ideas you can try are finding whatever your dog’s “reason to live is “and then show the dog that this will be delivered to him as soon as he crosses the threshold of the door. Think of not wanting to get on an airplane if you had a fear of flying and then imagine if every time you stepped on a plane, someone would hand you a certified check for half $1 million. The other aspect which is directly tied to this is the drama that leads up to Getting him to the door. We want to minimize the fuss about getting to the door, both in terms of his emotional state as well as the amount of time it takes us to get to the door because the longer it takes the more he gets stuck in quicksand. Go about playing with him in the house and feeding him treats in the house and have him follow you around on a leash for short periods of time in all directions not solely towards the door. Once you have his trust and cooperation, then periodically make the direction be towards the door. Think in terms of “pressure release” in other words don’t simply apply pressure to the dog (mentally and emotionally) give the dog a lot of easy wins. Let him follow you and make a game of it in every easy direction much more so than towards the door so that the odd time towards the door can be absorbed inside of your practice session very easily. Glad you found the video helpful best of luck with your dog!

Just found this-I appreciate and agree with your kind and respectful training methods. It's a joy to work with a dog like Mia-she reminds me of my 10 month old GSD pup who is endlessly happy to work for a tug or toss of her favorite floppy frisbee. It's wonderful to hear a KZfaq dog trainer speak knowledgeably about the intelligence and special personalities of the dogs they work with. Thank You!!
@Mtldogtrainerfamilyk94 ай бұрын
I’m so glad you found it useful. Dogs need to achieve satisfaction and require someone who understands how their instincts and minds work in order to have training make sense. When we make the training work and “fit” the dog we are simply making our jobs easier in the process and the training has much more longevity and durability. Best of luck with your dog!

Nick thank you so much for this video, it’s been very informative. I’m in TX fostering a dog that was captured after being loss for about six months after being dumped with 3 other dogs. We have had this adult male dog for a month. He has not shown any aggression at all but totally avoids us. He basically lives in our living room and does not come into rooms where we are except to walk through to go outside when we open the door and if he wants to go out. When he wants to come in, and he would rather be in, we cannot be anywhere need the door. He freaks out if he sees a leash. I’m frustrated because I want to help him to have normal life.
@Mtldogtrainerfamilyk95 ай бұрын
I’m glad you found it useful. Dogs like the one you are fostering need to be challenged in a very careful and structured and measured way in order to help raise their tolerance to stress. If this is done properly, it will help create a stronger dog with a larger comfort zone and give them a better quality of life. Best of luck with your Foster Dog - what a wonderful thing to do for an animal in need :-)
