Surely these type of boards are going to compress with the weight of a wall hung toilet + user and crack the tiles, eventually,?
@petersteinmeijer5194 күн бұрын
My problem is that the part of the slider where the rain shower head sits rotates forward ( under the weight of the head ? ) and the head now droops and sprays the wall behind it. Is there a way to fix this ?

I get it... and I'm using backerboards in my new wet room already. However, there are millions of bathrooms out there that don't have a problem, and were constructed way before backboards were invented. So what did they used to do to get it 'right'? Surely tiling and grouting properly is your waterproof defence. My 10 year old bathroom was done with moisture boards, then they actually plastered it before tiling. It's been fine ever since and no grout has come out and as far as I can tell - the shower is still waterproof.

We are planning to lift the current floor tiles in a ground floor kitchen and bathroom, and put this insulated tilebacker directly onto the concrete to add insulation, and raise the level in line with the rest of the house. I can see how you secured them with the adhesive and the mechanical fastenings on the floor - do you have to seal up the joins on the floor also, and if so, how would you advise? We are not putting this in any particularly wet areas, the shower is completely seperate and has it's own tray. Any advice on the suitability of this for our job much appreciated!
@RubberduckbathroomsCoUk7 ай бұрын
Adding these board under tiles or floor will indeed help with insulation and thermal properties of your home. If you are installaing this on a concrete floor then the mechanical fixings are not required (only required on wooden floors) and if the room is not a wetroom room or wet area, then you do not need to seal the joints against water ingress. These boards are also perfect for adding underfloor heating on top of if you choose to do this at the same time.

What if your walls aren't level?
@RubberduckbathroomsCoUk8 ай бұрын
Simular to what you would do if you were tiling and how good of a finish you want to end with. So depending on how far your walls are out, you can pack the boards out with additional adhesive, or if they are very far out then you can either plaster the walls and get them level, or scribe the boards as you install them. You want walls to be as level as possible once finished to get the best finish and to make installing item on the wall easier.

AVOID this product and this supplier at all costs. I recently purchased Abacus elements board from rubberduck and it's been a complete nightmare. The box of 10 boards arrived damaged and it looks like a forklift fork has punctured through them. I inspected the boards and two boards have a hole through them with the subsequent boards having deflection and compression in this same area. I reported this to Rubber duck and after chasing with several phone calls they have advised that they are going to send out two replacement boards, I requested the whole batch be collected and replaced but they have refused and advised that the remaining boards are "within tolerance" I asked what there tolerance was so I could check myself, and again, after several calls chasing this they advised that there isn't a tolerance measurement it is that they are "fit for purpose" in their opinion which presumably they can tell from a photo. Just so dishonest. The damaged areas on the subsequent boards are compressed from 12mm to around 6mm and are really fragile, I could quite easily push my finger through the boards in the damaged area and they will not stand up to any usual building loads and will split as soon as I put a screw through it. I have told this to Rubber duck however they are now ghosting me. Just an awful, horrible company to deal with. If you want a full refund they demand that you send them the items using a courier at your expense, even if they are damaged, despite the law saying the return delivery should be covered by the seller for damaged products. The boards might be good, however if there is any damage in transit or any issues they will do everything they can to avoid replacing them or helping you. Genuinely my worst ever experience as a consumer has been with this company. Save yourself the hassle and go with another product or supplier.

But I need time to bond surfaces to measure while bonding, how long times do I have before the permanent bond? Please answer me
@RubberduckbathroomsCoUk8 ай бұрын
Adiseal typically cures in 24 - 48 hours, with longer curing times in colder temperatures but its bond is almost instant as you can see and depending on amount applied and the surface you are fixing you may find it hard to move the product once applied. We would suggest you dry fit everything and mesure before application, if this is not possible this might not be the right product for you and a inferior grab may be required.
