This is later Mac. He employs a slight squat here which is "tidied up" when he posts up on his left leg. The total vertical movement is little more than 3-4 cms. This action provides a force from the ground via the left leg to open the angles. Something different than that applied by turning alone. I think it's a diversion from his original ideal of staying centred and level, but it adds power and we all seem to want that.

In the start of the downswing, when the right leg looks like it doesn't move for a little bit from a face on view but the left does look like it goes towards the target. To do this is he feeling himself twist the ground clockwise with the right foot? Thanks
@paulgormangolf
@paulgormangolf Күн бұрын
I have never heard Mac say that. With my experience at my clinic with him, he never mentioned anything about twisting the right leg Of course, as you might know, he talks about banking of the right foot, which would not be that at all he does, however want the hips up high, especially the right hip so that you don’t injure your lumbar spine. Thank you for your support! Keep them coming

From what I see of this Hogan video he uses the kinematic sequence. From what I have seen in 90% of my lessons, people seem to view the golf swing as a back and forward action. The great ball strikers are moving to the lead side before they get to p4. They get a head start then the rest of the engine kicks in the torso, arms, hands and club in that order. Less experienced golfers are out of sequence and late to impact, necessitating a flip of the hands to make contact with the ball.

Hi Paul, thanks for the analysis. In regards to Mac’s glutes starting to come towards the ball and away from his initial set when initiating the down swing and in doing so, beginning the extension process of the entire body, would you say this is what is generating the centrifugal force in the club shaft Mac refers to between P7 and P8? Thanks!
@paulgormangolf
@paulgormangolf 7 күн бұрын
No, the rotation of the body moves the radius of the swing evenly as the right shoulder keeps moving The extension plays a part too💫

Well, you’ve got a few things wrong here Mr. left foot break. One is the reference to Hogan is a link to my last long form video. I made call a related link. As for the reference of Hogan absolutely similarities, especially with drivers where Hogan would see his right foot up and slide forward as his right hip slams into the left, as he continues to rotate more than anybody ever did with his arms staying the sides of his ribs, connected , hands in front of chest, just like Mr. SCHEFFELER Hogan always had the elbows as high as his ears, pretty high I’d say. Before the fall down to the body Love me some Nicklaus too

What I see is Mac creates so much space to allow his hands to drop low and to the inside which is caused by the tilted hip turn. His hands follow his hips hip line on the back swing and down swing. The down swing looks like his hands are going straight down a ramp and then at impact everything from the hands, hips and shoulders thrust through. The right foot follows through last as a counter weight to stay balanced. The power seems to be coming from the left leg straightening/activation, and right hip/should thrusting through. My assessment based on watching your videos and Mac's key points. Thanks for the Master Class video.
@Blue_Dun
@Blue_Dun 20 күн бұрын
This is great stuff. I took a lesson over a year ago and started working on this hip move. I was a lifetime hip slider in the backswing and an early extender in the downswing. Not to mention I hit my irons, even wedges fat 85% of the time. It has been a terribly hard habit to eliminate and to consistently get my right butt cheek going back in the backswing and the left hip going back and out of the way (as opposed to the pelvis going toward the ball) in the downswing. When it started clicking the fat shots became increasingly less frequent and, with improvements to upper body rotation and release point, I began to feel what it was like to hit ball first with a bit of shaft mean...instead of coming hard from the top and flipping the club with chicken wing arms. Getting that right hip going back and even moving around and toward the target (instead of to the right), I finally understood what golf teachers and analysts meant when they said touring pros are actually moving or getting their weight to the left side before they even finish the backswing. It just kind of happens naturally when you rotate your hips/pelvis correctly. It is, and I hate to use a worn out KZfaq golf phrase, a game changer. Having said all that here is the issue that came with making this change. In my effort to get my left hip to go back and behind me, my shoulders want to follow my hips (I think) and I often get terrible pulls. I also have had pain in the far left side of my lower back. A number of months ago I told myself I was really going to get the left butt cheek to stay "on the wall," rotate behind me, and stay down through the ball at the same time. Hole 1, first shot off the tee, and my lower back went POW. I had to wobble off the course back to the parking lot. Luckily I have a remote control push cart so I didn't have to carry my bag, which I would not have been able to do. Couldn't play for a couple weeks and even now it gets kind of tweaky in spite of the fact I religiously exercise and do many core exercises to strengthen and stabilize my spine. Thanks for reading all this. Your video just hit home with my swing work. Just gotta figure out the pull issue now.
@paulgormangolf
@paulgormangolf 20 күн бұрын
What a wonderful note! I am glad that this video I did provided you maybe some additional thoughts on the movements of the hips and pelvis and yes, a complete game changer. However… The hips should never stay on the wall your tailbone has to extend diagonally in the transitionremember that right hip that you pulled back has to come back out forward and the combination of tucking the tailbone under as a right hip starts to come back to neutral would be a diagonal motion I have only heard it described one time by Mac O’Grady and it was actually in my 2003 lesson I had with him In 2003 he was describing how the hips move three dimensionally that’s how smart and advanced he is unbelievable. That’s why I have PaulGormangolf.com Masters of the game featuring hours of Mac O’Grady and his insights on body movement like no other! You should join us there!
