A lesson in not only compounding but the value in delayed gratification. I recall the psychological experiment where children were offered one marshmallow or a second one if they waited a few minutes. Most of the kids just ate the first one but I believe they tracked the life trajectories of the kids and the ones who waited (generally) went on to become more successful in life.

I get the point, but doesn't momentum trading kind of run contrary to this? The idea that a stock that is doing well should continue to do well, barring some major catastrophe? Of course, we've seen that recently with the likes of TSLA and AAPL, but if you managed your risk properly, you still kept most of the gains and stayed out since then. I'll gladly accept a 5% pullback at the end of the run of a stock that's had a 50% return over the past year.

Exact you should always compare a strategy to buy & hold. if the strategy does not beat the market it can possibly be used to avoid staying in position during a crash but it remains a very mediocre strategy... not really what people who trade are looking for... it's close to investing of grandfather and this kind of content is almost devoid of added value. Unfortunately...
