Some folks from Charlotte bought a home in my neighborhood recently. They paid a third more than the home was worth ($200,000 more), and started remodeling immediately although the home was recently renovated. Several weeks and many $thousands later it looks much worse than when they started. Where do people this dumb get their money?
@livinginnorthcarolina11 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately, having money does not mean you have taste… I’ve seen plenty of houses that have been renovated that are absolutely atrocious. It’s a shame because then somebody else has to spend all that extra money to fix it and the house will never sell if it’s that much over. Unbelievable! It ruins the entire neighborhood. Maybe when they have to take a loss on the house they’ll learn a lesson. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

I've lived in NC 22 years and love it. It's not the perfect state as every place has its flaws, but I love that it's very seasonal, you got beaches to the east, mountains west of the state and it's very green and fall is gorgeous here. I live in Cary, the only things I don't like specifically within the Raleigh area are the way some people drive, not everyone but a good number of people here drive like maniacs. If you're going 10 and 15 mph over the speed limit then there should be no reason why a person should feel the need to be all up on someone's bumper as if they aren't going fast enough. Where I'm from that's good way to get into a fight or worse. Other than that no other complaints.

The whole week there I did not see one piece of trash on the ground or even any homeless walking around holding up signs.

Winston Salem is the most under appreciated city in NC. Great arts and cultural city. Great health care. Three respected universities. Affordable housing. Good schools. Reasonable taxes. Easy to get around. Easy drives to the mountains and shores. Terrific restaurants. As person who grew up in Boston, the 20 years I lived in W-S I consider it my true home. Great people and lots of young people and families.

Not being negative, just giving a different point of view. We bought a place here15 years ago from upstate NY. The traffic has gotten crazy all over, when we go back to visit, it's just as bad there. The humidity in NY is worse than down here, it can get pretty hot there, but it feels hotter even when the temperature isn't as high, because it's so humid. The pollen was just as bad covering our vehicles in NY. My allergies as well as my son's allergies have been a lot better down here, to the point where I rarely use medicine anymore. I think a lot of that is because it doesn't get as much snow and rain here, so there is less mold spores in the air. Now as for bugs... I hate bugs, we didn't have palmetto bugs or fire ants, which was great, but there were many times the mosquito's would litterally swarm us, you could rarely go outside without getting eaten alive. I think we've seen less than 5 mosquito's since we moved here, and we're outside all the time. Which is another big plus for living down here. We rarely had a string of pleasant days up there, it was either way too cold, or too hot and humid. I wouldn't complain at all.

@lordocasl73663 ай бұрын
@@livinginnorthcarolina That is one of the saddest replies. How nice for you that you live here and see butterflies. I am a White male, what the Confederate flag represents did not affect me. I too could put on a pair of rose colored glasses and see North Carolina as a beautiful paradise. But I'm also 73 years old and have woken up to the realization that the world isn't all about ME. I'm sure there were many white Aryans living in Germany during Hitlers reign who thought the same way; "it doesn't affect me, so the world is wonderful." When ANY American is being persecuted, marginalized, and hated, America is not perfect. There needs to be people who see beyond themselves to make the State a better place for ALL! 💐🌈🌞🙈

How does seeing positive things in life imply that I am not aware of other people suffering? Keeping myself in a positive mindset allows me to support and be kind to others around me that need it more than anyone. I’m going to work to control my narrative so that I can give my best every day to the world around me. It does not have anything to do with rose colored glasses. Instead, I prefer to see it as how can I make a positive impact on those around me today and move forward in a better light? If I live in a negative space, I cannot provide a positive experience. I’m sorry that you took my comment in a manner that made you feel I was oblivious. That is certainly not the case. Negativity will not help.

I bought a condo in a large HOA community a few years ago. Never again. I sold and because of this crazy market down here in Florida, actually made a little money but even if I took a loss, I’d sell. HOAs are a nightmare in Florida. Way too many variables that impact special assessments (insurance issues, weather related issues, issues living close to water and in flood zones etc). We got slapped with two special assessments and a 40% raise in our HOA dues. It was nuts. So glad I’m out of the situation.
@livinginnorthcarolina5 ай бұрын
I can absolutely believe that! HOA’s have a lot of power and sometimes people don’t get involved or can’t get involved and that makes it even harder because then decisions get made for you. Sounds like you got out just in time!

I’m in Ohio and the housing market here over the last 7-8 years is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Homes that were bought for $130K in 2015 are now being sold for $590k. I’m talking about tiny, disgusting, poorly built 950 square foot shit boxes in quite mediocre neighborhoods. Then you’ve got Better, average sized homes in nicer neighborhoods that were $300K+ 10 years ago selling for $750k+ now. Wild times.

A recession as bad it can be, provides good buying opportunities in the markets if you’re careful and it can also create volatility giving great short time buy and sell opportunities too. This is not financial advise but get buying, cash isn’t king at all in this time!

On the contrary, even if you’re not skilled, it is still possible to hire one. I am a project manager and my personal portfolio of approximately $750k took a big hit in April due to the crash. I quickly got in touch with a financial-planner that devised a defensive strategy to protect and profit from my portfolio this red season. I’ve made over $350k since then.
