Yep! I'll be honest, I tried the carbide version today and while it did deburr and chamfer better than this thing, a chaser nut and a quick zizz on the bench grinder is still my go to.

I mean, you caused the excessive heat by running your drill at high speed. Lower speed with proper pressure, perhaps a little cutting oil and that wouldn't happen. This is just user error.

In the full video I admit I'm probably running it a bit too fast, but really it has no teeth. It's flat inside and is designed to work on friction. It's marketed as working this way, but sure. 🤷‍♂️

I just use a grinder with a flap disc, turn it on, put the bolt at a 30-45° angle to the disc face, rotate the bolt. Takes less time, is cheaper, and lasts longer than these tools do.

First run a nut down on the thread before you saw them. Next run the nut off the threads and this will clean up the threads. If you want a chamfer on the end just grind the chamber before removing the nut.

I dont need one. I saw this and thought, "Looks handy!" Then I realized, as an electrician, we use lots of allthread and sometimes cut down bolts. 90% of the time we dont have thread issues but when we do, it isn't practical for us to carry every tool around so we just use diagonal cutters to nip off the extra burr and have no problem installing it or installing nuts. For the last 3% or less we can file the sharp edges a little and no problem. It just surprises me how it seemed to be a problem in the past, but not anymore. I guess allthread is just special. When I used to work in a prototype shop, the main reason for cleaning up the threads was to make them look nicer and avoid sharp edges and potentially cuts.

Thank you for sharing. Yep, I was looking for the convenience of it, I did end up buying a carbide version which I may put head to head just to see. But just like the kitchen, single use tools often take up more space than they're worth.

In the full video I ended up using a cut off wheel and grinding a slight chamfer with the bench grinder. This tool appeared to flatten the first few threads which stopped the nut from threading on properly. Ironically the hacksaw left a better burr than the cut off wheel did too.
@dfre6422
@dfre6422 5 күн бұрын
@SleazysGarage they do leave a rough edge, I have had to make so many that I usually leave it a little long because of that. It also helps to have some nuts on each side of your wheel to guide the blade to help the burr problem. Just a suggestion for you to try next time. Good video !

The car is coming along ni8cely! Quicker than my car. Engine has been just sitting in the car since about October. But I did switch gears to doing some suspension reinforcement work, otherwise I figured I wouldn't want to switch gears to that work after the car is running...I'd just want to get it on the road. But I'm also hoping to hear mine run in about the next month. My engine is out of a 2011 F-150 with about 90k miles...and between sitting on a floor and on an engine stand, I bet it hasn't run in 8 years, or maybe a little more. So keeping my fingers crossed that I have a good engine.

I'm going nuts with it (can check it out on my KZfaq, too). I was going to build a really good handling street....well, scope creep...and now it's basically going to be a street legal racecar. Going coil-overs all the way around, Cobra brakes, Caddy Brembos on the front, and a 2003 Cobra IRS! I have Detroit Speed through-the-floor subframe connectors and a roll cage that I have put in myself. I'm in the process of reinforcing the rear shock towers, yet, to handle the IRS with coil-overs.
