All is good with the way the video was done !!! Playing them one after another in my opinion is better than doing them separately I think you’ve always done it as playing one after another !! occasionally you make a video and play the odd tune in a short vid which is great but a long one hour video or an hour and a half “if you can manage it 😃👍 but overall everything is brilliant thanks Chris.

BUD FREEMAN..i'd KEEP that just for Jack Teagarden's vocal.. as above.. earlier tracks reissued JAY WHIDDEN...great 20's band..only got a couple of 78's by him.. 1927 i think.. i'd KEEP it for me and my shadow..like you say..shame about the scratches.. DEBROY SOMERS.. Na..not for me..too much corn..REJECT RED NELSON.. we had that one before..two great sides.. Wow thanks for the feedback on the complete play, I'm not sure about Ted Lewis myself but aired on the side of caution as I have rejected stuff before and then after hearing it in the editing, gone back to reinstall it in the keeps, lol... I like a bit of Corn now and then, lol... The wife has warned me against the pipe, but I will have another drinking session once I have reached my diet goal... I did have to scrap an LNL video as I was so drunk I didn't even understand me, lol... ;)

Those Louis Armstrong ones come from 1947 - the catalogue numbers would appear to suggest that they're Australian imports!

Yes, you are right, and I was about right in saying late 40s or early 50s, not sure, but the sound quality made me think it was around then... Thanks for the feedback... :)
@dja694 күн бұрын
That's correct. Both issues released in 1947. I knew they were Australian HMV 78s by looking at the J Albert & Son royalty stamps on the labels, as these 78s were made of laminate material which sound clear and smooth only if they are not worn. I do prefer the UK 78s as they may have considerable background noise, but they sound loud and resist wear.
@burmesecolourneedles46807 күн бұрын
Brilliant Chris! Joe Venuti's Beatin' the Dog is one of THE all time top classics for some of us! Fabulous Adrian Rollini on bass sax! Do you find like I do that 78s often sound a little harsh and edgy after washing? I sometimes have to settle them down with a play over with a steel needle.

Some great stuff there mate..i partivularly liked the Mezzrow/Ladnier double header and the Piccadilly Revels discs.. did tale off a bit rest are decent enough.. tho tbh i can take or leave Phyllis Robbins.. and not fussed about Gracie Fields at all.. that one would probably get binned from here.. noticed you do have a soft spot for hermore upbeat music hall style numbers.. where as the few records i have of hers tend to be slower ballad ones.. this is a well edited put together selection overall mate.. well done..

@@AllMy78s Thank you for the channel name mate, I'll be watching for new post soon. It's always nice to branch out I think. I do enjoy the smaller groups Benny had and Artie Shaw didn't do too bad either from their usual big band setting. Definitely keeps with those classics

Here are my reviews: 1. Mezzrow-Ladnier Quintet - If You See Me Comin' / Royal Garden Blues (1945) Side A does it for me as it's real bluesy. I would keep it too. 2. Gracie Fields - That Must Have Been Our Walter / River, Stay 'Way From My Door (1931) It's one I wouldn't play too often so it's a reject from me. 3. Marilyn Monroe - The River of No Return / I'm going to file my claim (1954) I have no knowledge on what the UK 78rpm is worth, if you had this on a HMV 45rpm single you could get up to AU$115 for an EX copy. I had two copies of this record on 78 and got rid of them both as they didn't play so good. 4. The BBC Chorus and Orchestra - The Blue Danube (1930). Your copy is a 1940s repress. Reject, enough said. Also, it's common as well. 5. Paul Whiteman - The New Moon (1929) This was released during the peak of the record market before the stock market crash saw record sales plummet. The vocalist is not Bing Crosby. One I would reject as I only kept the Paul Whiteman discs featured Bing, The Rhythm Boys & Bix. 6. Gene Krupa - Lemon Drop / Bop Boogie (1949). This is one I would keep as I'll play it often because it swings. 7. Phyllis Robins - I'll String Along With You / In My Little Bottom Drawer (1934) Not my cup of tea. Surprised you seem to like it. 8. Ethel Waters - Porgy / St. Louis Blues (1933) I like this one with Cecil Mack on Side B and Duke Ellington on Side A. 9. Piccadilly Revels Band - Persian Rosebud / Is She My Girl Friend? (1928) Arrangements on these are superb. 10. George Cathie - Il Trovatore - Part 1 & 2 (1928) Boring... Reject. One I would put on the fire place. 11. Artie Shaw And His Gramercy Five - Summit Ridge Drive / Special Delivery Stomp (1941) Summit Ridge Drive I have and did upload this on my channel years ago as it's a swinger. A lovely way to end an evening and this episode of Late Night Listening. 10 records for Late Night Listening is enough, I think. Great one Chris and thank you very much.

The Mezzrow-Ladnier Quintet, Ethel Waters, Piccadilly Revels Band, and that surprised Artie Shaw for me was the golden finds, I like Gracie when she's not trying to sing seriously, so I keep it for that side... Always fascinated by your reviews of my LNL, gives me an idea if I'm on the ball or not, lol... Yeah, I'm not a great fan of the swing era, but I do have a liking for some I have to say...
