The whole point of the 'secret' latch is to lock the catches in place, you are always supposed to leave the safe secured this way. A fair test would be to engage the 'secret' latch and redo the test, I'm sure the outcome will be very different...
@HandgunSafe8 күн бұрын
The point I made on video is that it doesn't matter. If the safe is not bolted down, one only has to try one position on the dial and drop the safe. If that fails, try the next position and drop the safe. Continue until open.
@clarkguenfu8 күн бұрын
@@HandgunSafe Sure, if they know it's a safe in the first place and that there is a secret latch commanded by the knob... The whole point of the diversion is that they won't know. The user is supposed to ALWAYS engage the secret latch. In this case there is no way the safe will open upon impact. While you raise some valid point about the documentation, the drop test is misleading, it makes it looks like this safe will open by itself if dropped while properly locked :/
@HandgunSafe8 күн бұрын
@@clarkguenfu You're describing what is known as "security through obscurity." In this case, the safe remains a secure diversion strategy for gun storage until it is no longer obscure. Once the safe is on the market, presumably selling through the website and maybe Amazon, and once it has been reviewed on KZfaq and elsewhere, the diversion is no longer obscure. Thus, the security is lost. Even without my video, the obscurity would vanish. I've advised companies for years to avoid this strategy for their devices.

How hard is it to pull the cable from the little brown piece that connects it form the box so that they could just take the whole box without cutting the steel cable? What's so special about the M-Lock locks from MAKE locks? What tools is it resistant to?
@HandgunSafeАй бұрын
I didn't test how hard it is to pull the cable from the crimped piece. You can contact Steelhead and ask them to provide some testing data on that. The M1 lock is an excellent lock with a sidebar. The lock looks like a wafer lock, but it isn't. The sidebar is inaccessible from inside the keyway, so there is no way to compromise it. The face plate is 1/8th inch steel, and there are also anti-drill pins in the face of it. You're going to have to ruin a drill bit or two, or a couple of screwdrivers, to force it open.
@russelallen5342Ай бұрын
It's odd that Big Red's instructions say to put the spindle key flag over end of the dial shaft, S&G uses the same set up and they say not to, that correct orientation is against the drive cam.

I don't know what to say. I haven't played with all that many of these kinds of mechanical locks. The Big Red locks are designed by somebody not affiliated with S&G, and the designs are his, though the locks are fabricated in China.

Ya know, there are ratings that are posted when you see a movie. I just don't think watching an R rated movie would kill someone if watched accidentally but something that is as important as locking up a firearm is left up to viewers discretion. This handgun "safe" screams that it is a Chinese POS. It should be rated XXX for impersonating a safety device. I really think a mandatory rating system, by qualified individuals, should be imposed on all safes sold in America.

() I keep forgetting how stupid these things are programmed to be. Instead of greeting them with the same cheerful tune - Just changing the response to a farting noise when there's no print registered would immediately inform the user that the safe is compromised - without increasing parts count. Making it hesitate/require confirmation to 'lock' without a registered print (illuminating the scanner until button pressed again) would inform the user that it wants a print - without increasing parts count. Making it refuse to lock (quickly) without using a registered fingerprint would force the user to return it to a more 'secure' condition - without increasing parts count.
@iFlyiRideiRace5 ай бұрын
If that button is moved to a different place, I wonder if this safe will get your approval?
@HandgunSafe5 ай бұрын
No. The bypass lock installed in this is a short-cylinder cross lock. I've demonstrated how to open them on this channel using tools any non-expert lock picker can use. Besides, the reason that some biometric handgun safes were recalled recently was this identical programming issue. If someone makes a mistake enrolling a fingerprint, that person has no way of knowing the safe will still open for any fingerprint without actively testing the safe. The risk of somebody leaving a safe available to anyone is too great, so devices that have this programming oversight are being recalled.
