Loved those lines : Where the panchabhutas have no footing!. Where the Sun moon stars do not shine and neither darkness. You are not a phenomena or some one subjective, but the changeless all pervading. Wow!!.. beautiful lines. And the closing line were wonderful.

I always thought "thou art that" made no sense. This explanation points out that you aren't really the tree or the birdsong; but the seeing of the tree and the hearing of the birdsong are you (expressions of consciousness and made of consciousness). I realized long ago that, if my consciousness is really empty (it's just waiting to be filled with stuff) and everyone else's is empty, then they could well be the same consciousness. Great video!

It's like everything gets flipped around. Instead of a central, more real, me in the vastness, I am the vastness, and it is at the heart 'now'. But that 'now' is just a.. contrast word, because, joyfully.. always!! Already, always!! The heart is always the heart, the truth is always true!

I really love your videos, but I’m a bit confused by the example. When a person is dying a horrific and painful death, there is not even a fraction of their awareness that can take in anything else except the terror and pain that overtakes. It’s basically all consuming at that point. Do people imagine that it is different? Anyone who has experienced any kind of excruciating pain will know that there isn’t a way to override this evolutionary component and the design of our physical make-up..and the example is so much more extreme than that, since it’s immanent death in an unsafe environment- it’s possible to deduct (even from just the screams) that every spec of attention melts into the pain. Though I understand what you are expressing, this seems kind of theoretical and not so much connected to how reality actually works. Am I missing something?
@untangle-your-mind
@untangle-your-mind 6 күн бұрын
You are right, of course, that pain can be so overwhelming that such inquiry becomes impossible. But as a contemplation, there is something that this thought experiment can reveal. And that is that the person or subject taken to be the self, the one undergoing suffering, is itself an object within the world. A world that is completely subjective. In this extreme case, what sustains that subjective world? If consciousness is tied to the subject, shouldn't the sky be falling? When you as a dream character undergo a nightmare, You/Aware-ness at the same time remain as perfect and undisturbed as ever. The suffering is experienced, it is horrible, but somehow what is truly You remains unaffected. Rendering even this nightmare without fail. So, there is no need to somehow cultivate a mind that does not shriek and beg for mercy in this scenario. What is perfect remains perfect and cannot be perfected any further. And that is the Self.

I have listened to this several times. It is amazing. Many years ago a teacher told me that I Am perfect and that I Am the creator. I didn't understand then but this brought me to the understanding. I Am the happening of it. I Am the Creator of my experience. Is that right? I Awarness. I Consciousness After I listened to this there was an opening into something. Hard to explain it. I was there for a while then later that day I became the center of everything that was happening around me. It was so real . So Real. I seemed to be watching it from the Center. I was the Center of it. Thank you for all you do.
@untangle-your-mind

When you have such insights/ experiences, you have to trust in them. They express Reality better than words ever can. This creator creates spontaneously, just by being present. You don't create experience or do anything in the usual sense of the word. All just happens simply because of your presence. And the happening of it is You/Awareness in action. This applies to all life anywhere, at any time. The centre and heart of every world.

Nabeel, I'm curious about gunas, if you have anything to share about them. Nisargadatta mentioned them, and I have googled them, and seen a few different peoples ways of interpreting our describing them. I certainly recognise them all in this mind. But something that interested me most was Nisargadatta saying that when you understood the gunas, you would would simply let them be, or something to that effect.
@untangle-your-mind
@untangle-your-mind 6 күн бұрын
Gunas were just the model Nisargadatta sometimes used to talk about the fundamental forces of nature. To discuss such things I much prefer to use modern science. Nonduality is not at all incompatible with science, and there are many insights in piecing together how experience and science are pointing out the same Reality.

And yes, I have got so much out of your scientific pointers. They 'close' a perceived gap, I've had so many moments of being stopped in my mental tracks for a while while listening to them. That's an inadequate description.. yes the mind was still, but that's not a good way to describe that sense of awe and joy, that feeling that there is nowhere to go. Thanks for that reply, cos I feel that quiet joy again! Nowhere to go, just here.

The misery is often as palpable as the day I saw that stray puppy. The peace is in what unites and underlies all lives. Losing the concept of "me" and "others" the mind is free to love and can do more good than it has ever done in this life.

I do not " identity as the body" anymore. I guess I can say that i identify as the "field" that is here.. the energy feild that experiences the phanominon that passes through me. My question is: that which "looks like" my body, ( the feild that knows experiencing), is this the "awareness" that teachers are talking about? I somehow always pictured "being awareness" as feeling like I am a huge expanse of awareness that can see everything, know everything from like, a detached point of view...
@untangle-your-mind
@untangle-your-mind 12 күн бұрын
However subtle the form, it is still among the phenomena being perceived. But Awareness itself cannot be perceived. You only know of Awareness by being aware. By being the Aware-ness. When the intellect tries to picture this, it objectifies Awareness as a field in space and time. But Awareness is in fact the expanse in which even space and time appear. To the intellect this is'nothing', 'void', 'emptiness'. But that is only because the phenomenon cannot know the Noumenon.

This morning I had a dream, where I looked out from a mansion onto a lovely balcony. As I stepped onto the balcony I realized I'm dreaming and thought let me close my eyes in this dream and I will open them and be awake on the bed for the first time in my life consciously. As I was about to do this I thought before i do it let me step off the balcony and fly - which I did. I then got entangled all over again in the dream completely forgetting my initial intention to wake up.

I have watched many of your videos and i love them, thank you so much. Synchronistically I was talking to a friend yesterday morning and attempting to explain to him how i see energy or consciousness or something, when i 'meditate' in the evening. I usually only experience this when there is less light, dusk almost. Whatever it is, it is there whether or not my eyes are open or closed. It is the same even if a walk around for a short while. The body also appears as this same substance at this time. I believe this may be similar to what you are calling 'Sprites'. I then watched this video and had a lightbulb moment. I have never heard of anyone else describing this before. Thank you

Is that why enlightenment is said to require 'stopping the mind', or being absent of any thought so as to perceive the I's/Mind's real nature?
@untangle-your-mind
@untangle-your-mind 13 күн бұрын
The Essence of the Mind is pure and cannot be purified any further. The thought of attaining enlightenment is in direct opposition to this realisation. So it is said to leave aside all conceptual thinking and just be still.
