You're right! Even if life doesn't feel special day to day, we still love watching the mundane moments in other people's life 🙋🏻‍♀I loved seeing how relatable life can look like when you're in a director-level leadership role. I'd love to get there one day. Look forward to your future content!

@@HanBang I'm a lead product designer right now. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback on my leaderships skills which led to me getting this design lead role, so that's why I play with the thought of a director role one day ✨

This is the first video I've ever seen of a designer talking about their 'balance' between being a full time worker in tech, to being a full time mom. I worked for over a decade in design and design manager but then once I had my son because of costs and caretaking support, I decided to be a SAHM. I've not really heard anyone from a design bg talk about how hard it can be or isolating, or how you do go through an identity crisis about who you are now with this tiny human depending on you 24/7. So this was interesting to listen to. I'm pregnant again and my son is now 2 years old, and I'm expecting my 2nd child in a few weeks. I have had mini panic attacks about the longer I stay away from the design world I worked so hard in the less relevant I become. But at the same time, I know my babies need me 100% more than a client or company that will happily lay me off at the drop of a hat. Really happy I came across your video!

Thank you for sharing your story. It’s always okay to take pauses in life especially for our littlest who need us so much but only for a short time. Balancing both identities along with all of the other ones (wife, daughter, sister, friend etc) is a constant juggle and not all the balls are glass at the same time. You can decide which ones are rubber for now, drop them and pick them up later. I so appreciate the time you took to leave a heartfelt comment. You’ve given me a spark to pick up the camera again!

@@HanBang I"m glad! And again, equally glad I found your video. It's not something I've come across at all to be honest. I don't know if it's a symptom of the tech world being mostly male, or the fact that women feel embarrassed to speak about it. Either way, it's good to talk about situations that might be more common than people understand.

Glad it was helpful :) what made you want to switch to UX and what's been your favourite learning so far?
@creatoratplay
@creatoratplay Жыл бұрын
@@HanBang I switched to UX after graduating with a BBA majoring in entrepreneurship but had no hard skills. When looking at jobs, I didn't qualify for anything I found interesting or creative. Then, I was randomly putting together a customized financial tracker for a friend's business to make recording transactions more pleasant when my boyfriend said that what I was doing was basically UX and how he thought I would really enjoy that career. He then showed me a few videos explaining UX, and I was hooked! Since then, I've taken many online courses and am about to graduate with a master's certificate in UX Strategy. At the top of my head, my favorite learning has been the tools and frameworks I can use to approach challenges. Before, I wouldn't know where to start. I also feel more confident knowing I can prototype solutions. Thanks again for what you share about UX on your channel! It helps me visualize my goal of working remotely as a UX Designer. :)

@@creatoratplay Whoa, what an interesting introduction into UX! I'm so glad someone was able to help connect the dots for you to look into this industry. All the best with your Master's and breaking into UX :) Let me know if you have any specific topics you'd like to see covered and I'll try my best to answer them!

@@HanBang Thank you!! I'm playing catch up with your videos, and you hit many of the points I'm most curious about, like the ones you made for recent grads looking to fill a UX role and preparing a UX presentation. Even the one you posted about perfectionism. That's a big hurdle for me in building a portfolio once I graduate since I can be susceptible to "analysis paralysis". If I think of anything you haven't already done, I'll comment under one of your videos! ☺🙏

Hi Han! It's such an encouraging video. :) I found you through one of Femke's office hour episodes and thought you have many great insights to share. As a sole designer in a startup company (and this is my first official product designer job), I feel a lot of imposter syndrome and that I can't handle a project at such a scale. But meanwhile, it's challenging to find the next gig. Thanks for your tips and words!
@HanBang
@HanBang Жыл бұрын
When things feel overwhelming to me, I just think about the first one or two steps ahead. Think about your position right now and what are one or two MUST DO's to push the product design in your company? and focus on that. You got this!
@violettej5965
@violettej5965 Жыл бұрын
@@HanBang Great point! I sometimes feel it has something to do with the comfort level with ambiguity. That overwhelming feeling for me comes from seeing too many paths in front of me. But focusing on the MUST instead of the MAYBE definitely will give me an anchor point to focus on.

@@violettej5965 just want to normalize this feeling, it’s called analysis paralysis. The paradox of too many choices making it hard for us to make a choice. I’d say give yourself permission to make mistakes because you will end up learning lots.

I really like #7. It can be hard to separate your designs from your worth, but with time, experience, and many designs under your belt, it will become easier to recognize that criticism is about how a design solves (or doesn't solve) a problem, not about the designer. Thank you for sharing what you have learned!
